Strong evidence found for first party iPhone games
Wait just a tick before you install an NES emulator on that iPhone of yours! (Actually, on second thought, go ahead and install it -- but pay close attention here anyway.) Sister site Download Squad has stumbled upon some pretty damning evidence that Apple is cooking up games for the handset, finding this little gem in iTunes' localization strings: "Are you sure you want to remove the selected game from your iPhone?" Seeing how there aren't really any games to remove at the moment, we can only take this to mean that there are some in the pipe -- which hopefully we won't want to remove, hence Apple's concerned tone in the string. Traditional iPods are now well entrenched in the brain-rotting, time-wasting downloadable app market, so a similar move on the iPhone almost seems like a foregone conclusion, especially considering the endless possibilities afforded by the gargantuan touchscreen and the recent posting of a senior game developer position out in Cupertino. Stay tuned! While you're waiting, maybe you can kill some time with some Bubble Bobble, eh?Update: Apparently, these strings have been floating around the nets for a little while now; our apologies for those that already knew!

uh... this isn't damning at all. When programmers write similar software they pretty much copy paste. ie... they took this portion of the code from the ipod and just replaced anywhere that said ipod with iphone.
Explain how they did that...when you can't copy and paste on the iPhone!! Well?
Oh, wow- you've got a point there. Are there any developers here who _don't_ do all their coding and compiling on their phones? Well?
Something tells me that Mavis Beacon won't be the first release.
you are wrong... instead of Touch Typing its more like this
'Mavis Beacon Teaches TouchScreen Typing' :P
They can't come soon enough! Bejeweled is great and all, but man I can't wait to get some tetris going on my iPhone!
I can see where the touch screen can be a problem for some games though. If your finger is on the screen, you can't see through it obviously!
Please hurry up apple!
100% agree, being locked into games on the internet really sucks when your commute is underground. Does anyone else see a Nintendo/Apple partnership for busting the Virtual Console out into the wild?
no you're the only one who sees it.
Apple apparently made a deal with Nintendo in June to release games within a few months, for $29.99 a pop.

From a comment on the Download Squad post.
...aaaannnd openmoko.
Why you people would put up with a device being locked in the first place I don't know...
You you can get a GameBoy Advance Micro for less than $100 don't you?
I mean... Why bother on your iPhone? Just get a little pocket system that is made for games instead.
