EchoStar beats Forgent's patent suit, makes chumps out of DirecTV et al.
EchoStar's just making everybody else look bad. After DirecTV and the cable companies caved to Forgent's patent demands and settled out of court to the tune of $28 million, EchoStar (Dish Network's parent company) has bested Forgent in court, and a judge yesterday denied Forgent a new trial. EchoStar is getting $90k for its trouble. This follows a jury verdict in May which invalidated Forgent's patent, which pertained to digital video recorders.

Hahaha...Dave got pwned!
About the only thing I like about my DishHD service is the inexpensive HD-DVR. So uhh, kudos for winning a lawsuit. What else can be said.
I love mine too but you are dissapointed in getting more HD channels than cable/directtv?
That and the annual price increases.
I love the extra HD channels (over my old Comcast HD cable) but I don't love that the signal dies any time a storm gets within 5 miles (not even kidding). I can actually predict when it's going to rain, by when my signal goes out =/. I'd have switched back to cable if I didn't have a 2 year contract (with massive fees to terminate). My only salvation is that I live in an area with excellent ATSC/NTSC reception (so atleast I can watch local channels when it storms). Other than that, the picture quality on DishHD is better (when it's on) than with Cable, the HD-DVR is amazing, and the HD Kung-Fu (Mostly Japanese movie) channel is the best channel in the history of the world =P
Have you checked your dish? We had similar problems after the Dish "Technician" installed our dish. I was able to improve signal reception in less than a hour, just by adjusting my dish until I had the strongest signal possible.
I used to work at echostar as a advanced tech rep and will say that it is pretty much all of echostars sat technology running the show direct tv even uses their sats to broadcast and they in fact were the creators of the dvr tech itself not tivo as some think so I guess this is good I mean after all they we one of the forfounders of the tech so how can they be sued If they are using their own design/patents
