Sony erects massive PS3 server cluster for Warhawk mayhem

C'mon, we all knew PS3 clusters were good for more than academia, right? Thankfully for those who are itching to jump right into a worldwide dogfight when Warhawk lands, it looks like Sony has you covered. Granted, the game will allow for PS3 owners to host and play on their own matches, but the Ranked-Dedicated servers that you may also opt for shouldn't be lacking in terms of sheer power. Constructed by the SCEA IT team, this ginormous PS3 cluster will soon be used to connect Warhawk gamers everywhere, and while we're never told precisely how many PlayStation 3s were scrounged up in order to make this happen, feel free to click on through for another shot and start countin'.

What sense does it make to have 150 or however many Blu-Ray Drives. It would have been 100 times cheaper to just user ACTUAL servers and have 1 of 2 Blu-Ray Drives a Rack. Plus the waste of Wi-Fi, plus the drives are WAY too slow to actually serve anything. This was just a way to pad Sony's abysmal 4th Quarter Earnings.

you are assuming that they arent that dumb, ASSUMING, no where does it say that what is on those racks arent full ps3's. and yes i do think that they are dumb enough to do this....sony hasnt had a good idea in about 5 years

When the PS3 starts showing it's true muscle in the next few months. The idea of owning a PC that costs over 2 grand just to play your favorite fps will be deemed redundant.

I think the insecurity of PC/Xbox owners are demonstrated in these comments.

$499 for a super computer with Blu Ray! you can keep your gurgling water cooled waste of money PC and jet propelled Xbox junk60 thanks...

You all are funny with your comments. I run a dual core cpu 3.4 ghz windows vista with 4 gb of ram 450 gb hd. When i run Folding at home (which uses the most processing of any software that xbox or ps3 has) My ps3 KILLS it. LMAO. All you xbox lovers need stay on XBOX forums and pay up your monthy fees... SONY has been the console GOD for years and always will be. See how they still make ps2 games? Do they make games for the original XBOX? nah.. they dont work anymore AWWWWW. Who won the console war last time? PS2. In another year all you xbox people would have paid enough for 2 ps3's while getting obsolete hardware. then again you will still be paying forever.
