First "real" snapshots of Meizu's M8 supposedly surface
We'll be the first to admit that the first "real" photographs of Meizu's M8 still appear mighty doctored, but hey, so long as the final product looks this good, we'll be content. Nevertheless, the firm has made available three supposed snapshots for us to drool over, and while we're far beyond the point of actually believing anything these guys say in regard to a release date, the latest news on that front has the finalized unit ready for testing by the year's end. 'Course, there's still no set date for actually getting it into the needy hands of consumers everywhere, but the most recent price estimates peg the 4GB M8 at 2,380CNY ($314) and the 8GB version at 2,880CNY ($380). Per usual, feel free to peep the other two snaps after the jump.

GPS AND Windows Mobile?
Yeah, Meizu M8 FTMFW!!!
Bart Lee @ Aug 12th 2007 11:41PM
Wow, someone who is actually excited about Windows Mobile. Never thought I'd see the day.
Todd Long @ Aug 12th 2007 1:16PM
Maybe one day this will get released...but by that time it'll be old news. Apple at least has their product out and rocking.
Dave @ Aug 12th 2007 1:18PM
Why didn't they just copy the Blackberry or Treo?
nintendo fanboy hater @ Aug 12th 2007 1:30PM
the iphone was being produced in china long before the prada was even a concept and if u flame me you are just haters so suck it
Gary @ Aug 12th 2007 1:49PM
I should also point out that all of those icons on the screen are lifted straight from Windows Vista, with the exception (maybe) of the "cogs" icon.

i dont know why everyone says this looks like an iphone...
paloooz @ Aug 12th 2007 2:46PM
Aside from:
*The ear speaker being moved up to the chrome bezel
*The home button having a different graphic
*The volume, mute/unmute switch being elsewhere
*The bottom of the back not being black plastic with speaker/mic
*The GUI obviously looking different while still having the same structure
*The back being white instead of aluminum
It looks exactly the same. Here, I made a comparison:

Obviously I've slightly modified the Meizu in the following ways:
*Turned it off, showing just the blank screen
*Added gradient "reflection"

its not like i was being sarcastic or anything...
Hung @ Aug 13th 2007 9:05PM
Jeez. How f.ucking stupid can you get?
Also, you seriously made a photo comparison and uploaded it? You deserve to die; you understand this, don't you?
But as one Mr. Stone and one Mr. Parker once stated: "How can you kill that, which has no life?"
Adrian Williams @ Aug 12th 2007 2:34PM
A iPhone clone that's better than thee iPhone WHAT?
Miles @ Aug 12th 2007 2:47PM
So it's better than the iPhone, but the input is going to be worse.
Typing on a screen with multi-touch is one thing, but doing so with single touch screens is murder.
The error rate goes way up.
paloooz @ Aug 12th 2007 2:55PM
Crapple? Oh,that's rich.
Merrick @ Aug 12th 2007 3:34PM
The iPhone does not look as much like the LG prada as this thing looks like a complete rip of the iPhone, although the onscreen shots are obviously fake. Regardless, all I have to say is: So.....its an iPhone?
Dave @ Aug 12th 2007 3:48PM
Sue sue sue sue, sue sue sue sue, sue sue sue sue. Sue, sue, sue, sue, sue, sue. SUE!!!
Woody @ Aug 12th 2007 4:22PM
HAH looks like they took an iPhone and photoshopped out the ring mute and volume buttons on the top left. You can even see where they would be is kind of bumpy and noticeably different
CF @ Aug 12th 2007 5:24PM
Is anyone genuinely dumb enough to be even thinking of buying this phone ( should it actually ever materialize) ?
If the answer is yes, I will sadly acknowledge that the fate of the western world, and thus the entire human race, is clearly doomed to a sudden painful and self-induced extinction.
Matt @ Aug 12th 2007 5:52PM
There's a story in the newest Popular Science about this phone, and the company behind it. After promising the author hands-on access to the phone and an interview with the CEO, he flew out to China to an electronics show. They sent him packing and told him "You come back, maybe, September."
I'm taking everything these rip-off artists say with a grain of salt.
Ahmed @ Aug 12th 2007 5:52PM
hmm...
why haven't they just called it iPhone?!?!
blrimblrim @ Aug 13th 2007 4:48AM
because it doesn't suck
Matt @ Aug 12th 2007 5:53PM
Also, where's the forward-facing video camera?
SteveMB @ Aug 12th 2007 6:47PM
Come on engadget, you guys are always late on on the Meizu news. You should be ashamed of yourselves.

Its an obvious iPhone knockoff, but they'll be lots more to come. As far as what came frist, does it really matter... The consumer looks at two things, price and usability. While I'd go for the iPhone since I'm slightly partial to Apple products, the average Joe might just opt for the Meizu simply for the $200+ price gap. Its simply a matter or choice just like PC vs Mac. Theres really no right or wrong product.
d8 @ Aug 13th 2007 6:42AM
i prefer something released later but has new tech than LG prada. :). btw. FYI.. apple has patent iphone's user interface since 2 years ago. LG Prada doesnt have much new tech. That's why there are lots of new 'iPhone' wanna be that use CURRENT or TODAY's technology, released them in just few months. LG Prada is just like a touch screen pda phone with slighly new GUI (big icon to allow user to touch it with their point finger) and a glass screen.. while iPhone use a multitouch screen. cant even compare LG PRada with iPhone. Mizu, Meizu or this china's phone? still cant compare it with iPhone. its just a joker in a PDA market.
D-man @ Aug 13th 2007 8:21AM
Should have been under the caption of "keep'n it real fake"
ilh @ Aug 13th 2007 10:57AM
lol, you people have no idea what you're talking about when it comes to Meizu. Compare the M6 to the Nano and you'll see why you should take the M8 seriously. The M6 is a far better DAP than the Nano.
David @ Aug 13th 2007 4:14PM
Fake CG Rendering!
Stephen @ Aug 14th 2007 11:54PM
I don't think there is any way, you could possibly create a fully touch screen phone without it looking like the iPhone or Prada. So everyone. stfu.
Mobilizer @ Aug 19th 2007 12:55PM
Come on, Apple fanatics, you know the iPhone BIMBO phone is nor revolutionary nor special. Steve Jobs will have to eat those "10 million units sold in the first year" words, big time.
And for all of those Apple fanatics who hate Microsoft, the Mac only exist because of Xerox PARC and because Microsoft continues to make Office for the Mac.
Can't wait for the day when Microsoft kills Office for the Mac. The Mac will die, but wait, they have that iWork crapware! iWork, iWork, iCrap!
