Dell flub nets you ~$100 Zune
It looks like Dell's undoubtedly busy webmaster has let his or her e-commerce guard slip, and if you're clever and quick enough, you should be able to bag a black 30GB Zune for the low, low price of $109 (as pictured above). According to the clever folks at Audio Junkies, if you head over to the "accessories" branch of the Dell site and follow their specific browsing instructions (which include but are not limited to adding a pink and black Zune to your cart), you should find yourself in near-possession of an alarmingly affordable Microsoft music player. The AJ crew are even kind enough to suggest using PayPal for an additional 10 percent off, just in case the price cut wasn't deep enough for you. So, if you're looking for a bargain today, you might want to quickly read the step-by-step and then motor in Dell's direction, because this won't last for long.
Update - Well friends, all good things must come to an end, especially when they're at the expense of large corporations -- and this good thing has ended. If you made it in under that cut, congratulations. If not, there's always next time...

Hmmm... amazingly, even for $100 I can't be bothered to Zune...
Does anyone actually want one?
I did it. I will probably sell it on ebay unopened and make about $50. That's if I don't get an apology email from Dell tomorrow when my order was "processed". It would be a real surprise if they actually honor this.

i just completed the order, got it for about $104. the confirmation email had this line at the bottom along with some other specials: "Dell Home Customers: Save $70 off Zune MP3 Players!"
weird...
Still too much.
You're an embarassment even to apple fans.
Stop trolling everything not-apple paloooz :) please?
$109 for a device that doesn't play xvid?
I'll stick with my Cowon, and ignore your talk about Apple.
http://www.engadget.com/2007/08/09/first-shots-of-the-cowon-iaudio-x7/
I wasn't referring to this article exclusively. You do this a lot and after a while it gets... you know.
I too will stick with my Archos. It has a butt-ugly interface, but does the job.
Bye
I agree, $100 is too much for Zune.
The one thing worse than a Apple fanboi, is a Microsoft fanboi (*cough mr jack cough*).
They are like bad, poor quality versions of Apple fanbois.
@ idiotbash
Aren't you funny :) How am I a MS fanboy? Do you know what OS am I using right now?
I couldn't care less about Microsoft (or Apple for that matter).
Be careful now, don't go around bashing mirrors.
and you didn't do the exact thing to palooz?
and who was talking about OSes?
please, take this time to STFU.
How is it that three comments are "Highest Ranked" ... you'd think only one comment could be ranked highest.
@ idiotbasher - Look, everybody here knows paloooz is an apple fan and that's cool, people are free to support whatever they use/like.
Now, does he really need to do this in every single Microsoft related article? It's funny for a bit but it gets old pretty fast.
Grow up. I'll STFU now :) Bye
I guess you are an ignorant Apple fanatic who can't understand a product from a business perspective. With the Zune MS wanted to enter the DAP market without sacrificing too much which is why they licensed Toshiba to develop the Zune for them.
Yes the Zune isn't perfect but it is nothing but an attempt like the terrible Motorola ROKR Apple licensed Motorola to create. I guess that rung a bell didn't it?? The Zune is just step one and the successor will be the real product to take the iPod by the horns. It's called progress and evolution, Rome wasn't built in one day.

I was at the final screen, used paypal and they'd ship me one for $104. And I still just closed the window.
This is already on slickdeals, how many more sites will it get on? Dell is going to catch onto the glitch probably and start cancelling some orders.
early shopping for those of you who like white-elephant parties
You could't chase me fast enough to give me one of these.
Great way to exploit an error. This is one step away from stealing. I've had great service and products from Dell and would prefer not to gyp them a $100 over an error.
What are you, freaking Abraham Lincoln?
next time you make a mistake a lose your wallet, i hope someone hands it back to you with the money still in there. i am really pissed that engadget would publish a story to allow people to steal money from a company because they made a mistake. it's freaking dishonest, no matter how you cut it.
calling me Abraham Lincoln has got to be the weirdest insult I've ever had. Why wouldn't I want to be more like him????
fuck Dell...
@miller
How did Dell pay for it? I think it's robbery paying a "middle man" and the "other man"...no telling how much we are paying over cost...would you feel better if Dell offered a gift card instead?...What about price drops? ...Are we robbing companies then?
Also, remind me to sell you some stuff. :-)
miller, well said (about the Abraham Lincoln thing, too).
which DAP has greater storage capacity?
Hey Clinton,
I know. I should move on, but I'm fascinated by ethics. The Robin Hood approach is spurious at best. If you think a company is robbing you, don't buy from them and they'll go out of business. Encouraging people to take advantage of a company's mistake is different. If you knew the web master who made this error and had three young kids and needed this job to pay for medicine for his dying grandma would lose his job because he made a mistake that cost the company a few thousand dollars, would you still take advantage of the mistake?
If you accidentally listed your car in craigslist for $100 instead of $10,000, would you really want to be kept to that just coz someone picked up on the mistake. Doesn't matter if it happens to an individual or a multi-billion dollar company, the act is the same.
Okay, apologies to everyone for my self-righteous pontification. It's Monday.
@Miller:
Ethics are what they are...I guess people never get over charged for a car with your belief? Do I think it's wrong that the Zune was $100...no. Reason, my company purchases PC's from Dell $200-$500 off the cost. Are we "robbing" the webmaster of his kids medicines then? Are we being unethical? Should we pay full price for the PC's and on the back end charge our customer's the difference? At buying almost 1000 PC's from them in the last 4 years....I hope we didn't put any body out on the street or cause a kid to die from not getting there "medicine"?
I got to the $104 shipped (including tax) screen but I just couldn't do it. I don't need a Zune, and even for $100, it still won't work with my Mac.
Deal works though, so get to it people!
Why cant this ever happen with iPods?
im not all about the zune but they go for about 170 on ebay. picked one up.
The deal is over. Dammit!
This is no longer working. It shows $109 until you enter your address info, then on the next screen the cart summary changes to $179.99
I think this deal is dead... :(
Not working anymore for me. Tried like 3 minutes ago :/
Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaand it's dead.
I was mid checkout and they fixed the glitch. Oh well. I was going to buy it simply to resell it anyway
Wow, $180? It said $250 for my total on just the black Zune.
And I got all excited...
it's back to $249 now
HA... almost got one... I was phoning a few friends to see if they wanted some... and it switched on me mid-call...
oh well
don't want it even for free. i mean it.
Apple needs to hire these people to operate their online store
Remember when Apple slipped up during the Store update a few months ago? People where getting Macbooks for little over $100.
Apple does it, but very rarely :(
here is the Macrumors thread with pics, down the page.

Listen, stop acting like the iPod is so superior to the Zune. It's a matter of preference as far as the interface is concerned, and I like both and was surprised by how good the Zune was. The Zune has a bigger, albeit same-res screen, and while wireless sharing is for lack of a better term a piece of shit, it's not like the iPod has anything better. The only really viable reasons to choose iPod over Zune are;
A) you prefer the iPod interface
B) you enjoy buying/have bought iTunes content
C) You realize the Zune software is spawned from the depths of hell.
D) if you really appreciate the ubiquity of Made for iPod accessories
I had an 80GB iPod for a good while, only to have it (along with about $1500 dollars of other tech shit) stolen earlier this year. I got an open box Zune for $145 and it was a good buy, I like it a lot. I have owned an mp3 player forever, starting with Creative players (used to own a 6GB monster Nomad that ran on four AAs), and the Zune is the best I have used yet, barring the iPod, which I find I like just as much, despite the fact that the scroll wheel is a bit wonky when I use it.
However, at this point, iPod is like BMW of cars. Even if it's functionality is on par with Zune, it's cooler to have an iPod.
@ET:
But the functionality is not on par with Zune!
If having an ipod is cool then I'll be a fool cuz I won't touch one with a 10 ft pole. iRiver Clix any day of the year
It says "Dell cannot be responsible for pricing or other errors, and reserves the right to cancel orders arising from such errors." and when they did this to me 2 years ago with a laptop, they changed the price after I purchesed it, it took MONTHS to get them off my back.
guess the dell people read engadget, cause that changed back hella fast.
not to mention i wouldn't want a 30gb zune for $100... maybe if it was the bigger one.
but the bottom line is, even when free, crap is still crap.
