Dahan T&S shows off 42-inch widescreen multi-touch LCD
Just months after displaying Dahan T&S' 120-inch multi-touch panel, the firm is now showing off its 42-inch widescreen LCD that incorporates the same technology. This living-room-friendly display contains "multi-dot recognition functions to control image size and direction by [using your] fingers," meaning that a single press will translate into a left-click, while using two fingers will replicate a right-click. No word on resolution, price, or a release date just yet, but click on if you're down with a couple more pics.

a comment about the most overhyped product of this year in 3...2...1...
OMG IPHONEZ
Why the classic XP background?! It ruins *every* device shot *ever*!
Thought that guy was flashing a gang symbol at first.
I think he was in the Super Lucky Awesome Blue Tie-ger Supreme gang and may be now in the 'Witless Relocation Program', after appearing in this pic.
yeah, what he said. You can tell from the vertical stripe arm tats.
"Peace out, Homey."
guy in pic: YOYOYO whatz up dawg!!! we sportin da multitouch screen is da crib
So how does is know where to put the right click then? The first finger or the second one?
Its the same thing with single touch displays, when 2 points are held down, the center between the 2 points is activated to which the user was intending, in other words,
the center of the fingers.
Is it just me or is the idea of a 42in touch screen kinda stupid? i mean do u really want to stand infront of this screen to work and reach all over it just to use it?
Well, I guess you could always make a table out of it... ala MS's Surface.... if the screen is rugged enough anyways.
ummmm.... do you want to live in the future or not???
@spacegravity4me
umm yes but still give me some things that it could be used for? other then a white board(cuz thats a good one i didnt think of)
so next time you tell someone do you want to live in the future or not, think a little bit about what ur saying cuz who doesnt want to have a flying car or shit like that..
i had that idea before
So why you haven't done anything about it?
Cannot wait to see kids grease fingers on it...
I could see this coming in handy for presentations and meetings where the user would be standing up anyway.
Much better than whiteboard.
where are the hot asian girls? surely we cant have GUYS showing of the tech. bring me the token chick plz lol zomg bbq
If you want hot asians got to a porn site.
Hey RSJ (Real Steve Jobs), multitouch is not just a research project anymore???
YATTA!!!!!
Multi-touch technology will make a big difference to those using CAD & drawing software. I can't wait to use something like this soon...would have to wear a drawing glove though. THE DRAWING GLOVE!
Now we know where Long Duk Dong end up at....
Just an average asian, doing a multi-touch equation!
...and why not try Vista? If it can run well on the 7-inch HTC Shift, why woulden't it work on a 42-inch machine.
Because it's Vista?
XP is more stable anyways. Maybe they ran through some BSDs and just got tired of it.
Question now is: how much? Also, do a 13.3 inches laptop version and I'm sold.
"Why not try Vista?" Yeah, great idea! Why _not_ waste $400?!
How about this: Why not try Ubuntu?
If you want any help migrating or would like any information about using Linux or other OSS, let me know and I'll do the best I can to assist you. ethana2@gmail.com
Just doing my civic duty. We're all in this together.
Yes, I know, the screen costs more than that. But at the end of the day, If you bought the screen, you still have something that has value and works ;)
cuz i aint old enough to
Finally, competition for the iPhone displays at the Apple Store...
iBuy
Living room friendly?
I'd rather have a remote control.
Porn?
Would bring new meaning to BSOD.
I wonder what the readers comments would be like if the story and the photo were with an Apple display. I suppose all of a sudden everything will be great. Sad but that is true.
Anyone else think this guy looks really unhappy? Could it be that he realizes besides some business applications there isn't a demand for such a device? I think he should stick to hanging out with his Yakuza buddies.
Why Yakuza buddies? The dude is korean while Yakuza are japanese. That's like saying that FBI agent should hang with his KGB buddies.
24 to 30-inch version would be just right to put on a desktop, perhaps with a stand that allows it to be positioned like a regular monitor, or lay flat for drawing a la MS surface. Something along the lines of the old G4 imac's swing arm. I'd buy one if it weren't 10 grand a pop.
But yeah, 42 inches is too big for home users except for presentations. Thats why most (not all, but most) people don't plug their computers into their Plasma or LCD in the living room.
Just think of the games you could make for a 24-30 inch touch screen.
