Nevover prepping clip-on display for PS3
While the PS3 is probably the console you're least likely to lug around with a screen attached to it, Nevover seems to think that there's enough people willing to do just that, and it's apparently planning to offer a clip-on screen to make that task somewhat more manageable. While it doesn't exactly look like it's ready to be released, the screen will apparently measure seven inches, and boast a 480x234 resolution, a "high" refresh rate, a pair of 1W speakers, and dual headphone jacks. No word on a price or release date just yet although, as unlikely a pairing as it seems, we're sure this won't be the last such screen to compete against your better judgment.

Are you kidding? The original PSOne screen had a higher resoution than that. Infact, you can get 1280x1024 7" screens now, and probably hack it up for cheaper

If you are going to carry around a PS3, then I am sure an HDMI LCD (thin) monitor shouldn't be too much of a burden either. Avoid this thing, save some cash and put it towards a nice DELL or Gateway 1920x1200 LCD display. Then run it in the back seat of your SUV, Van, or Car.
fischju @ Aug 14th 2007 10:33PM
I know you can buy 1920x1200 15" screens on laptops, I don't know about stand alones
How do you plan to power something like this? And the heat it would give off?

That looks terrible.
Way too small...
Fortunately for PS3 they just started getting good games.
Zeus the God @ Aug 14th 2007 11:20PM
Good games?! WHERE?!
Phil @ Aug 15th 2007 3:26AM
@ Zeus ^ ^
Oh what a surprising comment......boring.
Trace The Hedgehog @ Aug 14th 2007 8:18PM
Is this a joke?
JJ @ Aug 14th 2007 8:27PM
Well, the last time I checked, today wasn't the first of April....
And, I'm sure you can probably make one yourself with a higher resolution if willing to make it.
Trace The Hedgehog @ Aug 14th 2007 9:10PM
Got that right. But the hell with that. I'd rather play my PS3 on a 60 inch LCD, Schiet.
Alvin @ Aug 14th 2007 8:27PM
It's like riding a Vespa down the Autobahn
js @ Aug 15th 2007 12:13AM
Or a smart car?
Airhab @ Aug 15th 2007 5:38PM
Or A Ferrari in New York Traffic.
DickHardknocks @ Aug 14th 2007 8:27PM
Too bad they don't have HDMI In on laptops so you could use your laptop as a respectable monitor to hook your PS3 too.
-Tj- @ Aug 14th 2007 8:31PM
One step closer to looking more like the George Foreman grill.
DHayes @ Aug 14th 2007 8:34PM
lame.
Rob @ Aug 14th 2007 8:38PM
How come the PS3 and Xbox360 are so ugly looking?
Although I own and love my PS3, it does look like a high end George Foreman grill.
The 360 looks like it was the first draft they came up with and didn't want to spend any more time and/or money in improving it. I'm not talking about the systems' capabilities. Just the cosmetics.
And the Wii is not that far behind either. That's another fugly looking thing too.
Regarding the screen, it could come in handy if you use the PS3 as a server or a music player and don't feel like dealing with turning your tv/monitors on.

"Although I own and love my PS3"
So, looks like you've made all the payments and now have the title, hu?
waLLy @ Aug 15th 2007 1:37PM
I kinda like the Wii's utilitarian/spartan design. But the PS3 looks like it's for making pancakes (or is that "hot griddle cakes?"), and the 360 looks like an old Gateway celeron-piece-of-crap PC.
FrankTheCrank @ Aug 14th 2007 8:46PM
I just puked in my mouth. **gulp**
KC @ Aug 14th 2007 9:03PM
That even would be a terrible screen for a Linux console, if you wanted to run the PS3 as a server...
humpty @ Aug 14th 2007 9:20PM
Get a PSP and stream your content over.
Michael @ Aug 14th 2007 9:25PM
I don't understand these things. What's the allure of having and small LCD strapped to a home console?
Do people who can afford a $500 PS3 not have a sufficient enough television to play it on already?
ark_v2 @ Aug 14th 2007 9:55PM
Er...who would take a bravia with them?...
Still, the screen itself is a joke.
Joey @ Aug 14th 2007 9:27PM
right......
that makes about as much sense as playing Wii Sports Bowling in the car. Yeah, I think I'll just take my really portable PS3 on my plane trip.
What's that? You won't be allowed to use the wireless controllers?? Darn it, guess I can't take it now.
zerosozha @ Aug 14th 2007 9:37PM
"the screen will apparently measure seven inches, and boast a 480x234 resolution"
At that point, you've gotta wonder: what's the point?
devid @ Aug 15th 2007 2:44AM
there are 112,320 points, which one do you want? ;)
ark_v2 @ Aug 14th 2007 9:46PM
Does it have HDMI? :)
Grey Acumen @ Aug 14th 2007 9:56PM
Man, that screen looks like two PSPs duct-taped together.
Rob @ Aug 14th 2007 10:33PM
Hey, I have a slightly off the topic question.
Does anyone know of a stand alone dvd player that can play back "mpg" and/or mp4(h.264) files from an external hdd via USB2? I'm currently using my PS3 for that, but I'd like to avoid doing that so I it can last me a few more years.
I currently own a Phillips DVP-5960 which can play divx and has a USB jack. But, it's USB1. And we all know that that's just too slow for anything these days.
Any suggestions?
Aaron @ Aug 14th 2007 11:37PM
That resolution is lower than the PSP! That's terrible, especially for a 7 inch screen. It wouldn't do the PS3 justice at all.
Paul @ Aug 15th 2007 2:18AM
lol, it's funny how the ps3 can output to 1080p and other high resolutions, and yet this company decides to make a screen with less resolution than the wii can support. I'd rather just buy a 20 inch monitor and carry it with me than connect this thing and be able to see absolutely nothing on the screen.
superaktieboy @ Aug 15th 2007 4:53AM
lol, why the hell would you take a PS3 anywere except from home when on the move or w/e? if lets say you're in a car it takes 180-220 watts (PSU = 380w) and then next to that the power for the screen, where the hell are you gonna get that much power?
if you are going to someones house, obviously they will have a tv wont they? even Hotels have tvs..
so i think the idea of having a small screen stupid!! and also youre gonna have to look very close to see this as you see on a normal tv!!
greetzz
alexhrose71 @ Aug 15th 2007 9:32AM
But can it play doom ?
kevin.mairead @ Aug 15th 2007 4:19PM
why why why why why!
Kupaka @ Aug 16th 2007 5:32PM
it looks like an effing tumor on the PS3's back.
