Dominos now accepting pizza orders via SMS... in the UK
If you thought ordering pizza online was the best thing since Deep Dish, you'll be delighted to know that the next logical step in getting pizza to your mouth with minimal effort is here... if you reside in the UK, that is. Reportedly, Dominos is now allowing customers surrounding its 470 UK-based locations to place their orders via SMS, and this move comes after "successful trials" that began in July. To utilize the service, you must first enter in your details online, but after that initial registration, pizza is simply a text away. Impulse eaters, rejoice.

I guess it's cool that Dominos is using new technologies and is trying different things, but if you're using a phone anyway, why not just talk to place an order?
Silly Colin, cell phones aren't used for talking. Get with the times man.
@ Brian:
Cell phone? What's a cell phone? Oh, you mean a portable communications/media device. Get with the times man.
A mobile phone call in Europe is typically much more expensive than an SMS message...usually around EUR 0.35 for a call vs. EUR 0.09 for a text
Since then SMS is new technology?
you can order food from campusfoods.com through SMS and not just from dominos
Colin,
Because it takes 15 seconds to send a text saying "pizza" or whatever you want, rather than describing your order, address, and phone number. Besides, some of us don't like talking to people on the phone. Admittedly I'll probably still jump online to order but it's a nice addition.
Did you mean £5 ($9.92)?
plus texts are cheaper...
and must companys offer you free texts some way or another...
ie. i get 300 free texts a month for topping up £10 ($5)
did you mean £5 ($10)
oh yeah opps thats what i meant
thanks
Did you mean £5 ($9.92)?
No, he means £10 ($20)
They eat Pizza in the UK?
We can also order Dominoes Pizza via Digital Cable (VirginMedia) or Digital Satellite (Sky TV) here in the UK too :D
Pizza is like my lively hood. That and Chinese take away uNF!
Yup, I hear they eat them in Italy, too.
We have indoor toilets now as well.
Cool!
now I don't have to call for pizza!

Domino's Pizza, the secrets is in the carrier.
in russia, pizza eats you
a) This gets old, FAST.
b) and if you *have* to do it, it's "In Soviet Russia, pizza orders YOU"
Do they not have any good pizza places in the UK? Dominos yuck.
The UK is filled with Pizza take-a-ways. I live in tiny town and we must have at least 20 pizza take-a-ways (and they're all pretty much next to each other).
A lot of UK fast-food differs from the US variety, even if they are by the same company. (Another example: McDonalds in the US was disgusting)
Whoa whoa whoa, did you just insult Dominos? Dude, what the hell!? It's not like actual Italian pizza, I'll admit, but it's still awesome.
Brooklyn!
Philly!
I think it is cute the way UK folk call "carry out" "take away". In the US, "take away" implies theft or punishment.
Yeah, why can't those Brits speak REAL English like we do in the States? ;)
@Josh
You're narrow-minded comment is one of the reasons many people hate Americans, and yes, I'm an American living in Ireland. Spend some time in Europe or at least outside of your cushy suburban lifestyle... oh, but first, learn some manners.
Hey Jimmy, it was just a joke...
@James Britton:
That's pretty funny...you automatically assume a) Josh has never spent time in Europe and b) Josh lives a cushy suburban lifestyle.
All based on one sentence. Talk about "narrow-minded"!! LOL
The phone operators probably couldn't understand those cockney accents.
They probably don't because they are located in india or pakistan ;)
Yes, because everyone knows that everyone in the UK has a cockney accent.
You do know it's only a very small part of London (which, by the way, isn't a country) that Cockney accents are from?
We had this for years in Turkey thanks to a website called Yemeksepeti, which is basically Campusfoods.com without the campus-only part. You can set special menus on the website and order them using just a text.
You think thats cool, here is the future of Pizza, http://blog.tribalpizza.com/
too bad Domino's Pizza sucks. Maybe other pizza joints will follow this trend...let's hope!
Dammit, that's twice now, what's with you guys??? Dominos pizza rocks whether you want to admit it or not. There is no room for argument here. Seriously.
vs. the normal crust, Pizza Hut IS better, but more expensive.
However, Dominator/Double Decadence are -amazing-.
Given the choice, I will ALWAYS go with any local pizza chain. Domino's doesn't deserve to be called 'pizza'.
Hi, i m working at getquik which does online meal ordering. We never really thought sms will take off and we still think it won't because of the complexity of a usual order. We think J2me and wap is probably a better option than sms simply because it is more visual and the user does not have to send text in a certain format.
Cheers,
Ybother

meh, domino's is so expensive anyway. 15 quid for a large pizza? seriously...
but what happens if there's a prank upon registration, so that you register your neighbour's address and they randomly receives pizza?
in that case, wouldnt you end up paying for pizza for your neighbours?
i hope someone "pranks" me!
Bacause this way u don't actually have to talk to the idiot on the other end. Just txt send me my d%& food.
