Jabra BT8030 bluetooth headset works as a speaker too
While the kids at the back of buses everywhere may already be aware of the fact that headphones can act as speakers if turned up loud enough, the rest of humanity tends to keep the volume down, and is therefore unawares. Jabra has latched onto this concept and created the BT8030, which can act as a bluetooth headset when you're on the move, and then switch into a speakerphone mode for Skype at your laptop. The speaker / headphone combo will also play music over Bluetooth, lasting up to 26 hours in music mode, 32 hours in talk mode, and sitting in standby for up to 25 days. It'll retail for $249.99, although we're not sure when you'll be able to pick one up.

Yeah fugly but i guess in ways the concept behind it is cool..."its the thought that counts" Hopefully -speakermode- only gets activated when the ear portions are flipped outward so it would be impossible to be on the wrong setting.

Does anyone know another headphones/headset combo which one can use with their cell phones i.e it should switch from stereo to headset when a call comes in etc etc?
I really want to buy one but cant seem to locate one like that.

Motorola S9 does this. I have them an they work great. I used them at work with our voip softphone. I would be listening to music, the music would pause. The headset goes into headset mode and I answer the call. It hangs up, my music starts again.
Arnie @ Aug 19th 2007 9:42AM
Does this allow me to answer the calls on it? i.e does it have the required microphone to answer the calls?
Adam Bailey @ Aug 19th 2007 10:40AM
Yes, It has a microphone in it, that is how I was able to use it with our voip softphone.
dude2007 @ Aug 20th 2007 5:44PM
But the S9 does not shift from headset to speakers ...
Also Jabra BT620s and BT320s will do the job for you ... Not a new feature ...

They look kinda Steven Tyler: ugly and cool at the same time.
I hope the headphones come with a bluetooth adapter. Otherwise, they'll be totally useless with the Macbook Pro seen in the picture.
mikey @ Aug 19th 2007 10:14AM
great. i could use them as speakers for me mbp. oooor....i could use the speakers in it.

TRANSFORMERS, MORE THAN MEETS THE EYE!
ark_v2 @ Aug 19th 2007 12:54PM
Ugly? I kinda like it, but I would never use something that big as a headset "on the move"...
Still, the concept is pretty cool.

I just got the Jabra BT8030 (before the official release)!!!!!!!. Someone had a beta sample so they sold it to me. It works really good for watching movies on my Macbook (Leopard, NOT tiger), very comfortable. The speaker mode works very well - there are two invisible buttons to hold down to in order to make the conversion. It is a little chunky, but i loves the design, and the sound is good. The only thing is that personally I found the control buttons are a little inconvenient to reach. Highly recommend it!!!
