Sony's DSC-T200 ultracompact going big with 3.5-inch LCD, 5x zoom
So it looks like Sony is about to break us off with a very nicely spec'ed little waif of a camera, the 8 megapixel Cyber-shot DSC-T200 (pictured left). Oddly enough, SonyStyle Canada has all the juicy details about this unannounced, significant upgrade to the DSC-T100 -- and its little brother, the DSC-T70 (pictured right) -- posted up for the world to see before a single press released has passed our desks; we're talking 3.5-inch touchscreen, 5x optical zoom (3-inch / 3x on the T70), claimed 3200 max ISO, VGA video at 30fps, automatic face detection, and even optical image stabilization, all in sub-160-gram packages. No wireless radios onboard, unfortunately, but you are getting the ability to dock with Sony's optional CSS-HD1 Cyber-shot Station for TV, allowing images to be viewed in their full glory on high definition sets. Despite the mounds of info and images displayed on these microsites -- along with overseas enthusiast site e-Photographia -- there are still no pricing / release details to be found, so we'll keep our eyes open. You can check out the T200, lens cover down, after the break...

Will it blend?
and i was just about to buy a t-100...
Haha yeah I bought one back in June, now I feel like an idiot (even though the t-100 is a fantastic camera to begin with). Oh well, I love it regardless (just the screen scratches very easily).
That big screen on the black camera looks HOT!
It be cool if they start including MP3 support in these cameras too. Then it'd be a slim camera + a basic MP3 player! =)
Hey, maybe they could add a phone in it too! Wouldn't that be original?!
How is this one better than the T-100 ?(I thought that one was pretty new)
>+1mpxl
>+ touchscreen
what else? =/
Isn't that enough for you? No one said it was going to be revolutionary...
I would consider it, if it had less mega pixels.
8 is unnecessary and if it doesn't come with some very hightech sensor it's gonna be noisy.
Surely 'fewer' megapixels.
It comes with the BIONZ sensor used in the Sony ALPHALPHA series,
I wonder only price? and when?
I was about to buy the T 100.
I wish they can go higher than 5x zoom. hopefully technology for optical zoom goes further in the near future (pocket size camera that is, not the SLRs since I know those can go way higher.)
Casio's compact Exilim EX-V7 already manages 7x and Panasonic's slightly larger TZ3 does 10x.
The look cool, and some of the new features sound really neat (and useful). Too bad they've got such pitifully small lenses that they can't possibly provide decent sharp, low light images. Small lens = little light coming into the camera = small aperature + long exposures + magnified lens distortions. Why can't Sony provide a camera like this with a decent lens?
Why? There's no market for such a thing. The target public doesn't care about low light exposures, after all, they have flash, and if you ask them, that's all you need to take pictures in the dark.
We're still at least a year away from a compact camera that is designed to handle low light stuff really well, and it won't be from Sony, either. They sell mass products, not niche stuff.
It might seem like there is no market, but there is a huge market... The trouble lies in convincing the public that a bigger lens makes much better pictures. If that was a priority, it could be done... Just state "with a large lens, it can take crisp pictures in low light" in advertising. They certainly aren't doing anyone any favors with a tiny lens.
Anyone who has tried to take pictures at a birthday party, at a concert, of fireworks, or at night can testify to the importance of low light performance.
Alas, no.
Look, I want a good low-light compact as much as you do, I don't always want to carry my 1D Mk II N around, because it's a bloody heavy bugger.
But we're a minority, and most people don't really care. They're perfectly happy with a terrible photo that's been ruined by flash, saying "This is me at the (insert crappy pop band) concert". Fact of life. It wasn't until very late in the life of film cameras that really good film compacts became available, when the market was already saturated, so companies tried getting into niche markets.
Why the hell don't you look at a Canon that gives you a real lens? The Carl Zeiss on there is nothing but branding and you know it. Get something from a manufacturer that has experience making cameras and designing lenses.
Anyone want to buy a t-100...
What a cool camera with large LCD and black color.
I wonder how much it would cost?

can any one tell me where i can find it in london, and where can i find it from.

I think the keyword here from the article is "unannounced". Unless Sony started shipping these out to retailers and are letting them sell units before they've officially told anyone about them, you're going to have a pretty hard time finding these cameras (or indeed many people who know of them). Wait until they've been officially announced and then call up your nearest photography shop...
It's very nice except for the Memory Stick storage. I wish Sony would switch to SD.
Meh, not really a big deal. How often do you use the same memory card in multiple computers anyway? I buy a nice big memory card for each camera I buy, and call it good. They're certainly cheap enough these days to do that. And most devices that can read SD also read MS. At least everything I have here (including 3 of my laptops) except my PDA supports MS just fine.
i wish they make it slimmer!!!
my sony t7 is the best they've ever come out with. people always think its the latest cause its so thin!
Voice tagging. They need to add it.
Before/after you take a picture you should be able to state who or what it is you are taking a picture of. That way a text to speech offline in the computer or in camera can be used to label the shots.
or you could just look at the picture and see what's in it...
Woah @ teh screen real estate. Having said that though, after playing around with a friend's T7, I wasn't convinced by having a touch screen for the controls - on my Casio exilim my fingers can find the buttons for anything without me having to look, but with the touchscreen I had to keep glancing to turn on flash or whatever. Would the camera have been any worse with a 2.7" screen and some real buttons? Regardless of what Mr. Jobs says, buttons aren't always a bad thing...
I was really close to buying a T-100... Best Buy hasn't had them in stock... Lucky me.
Hmm cheap t100's? TBH the t100 is a good camera and now the t200 comes out it will be really cheap >=D
Yes! Put those 3-3.5" touch screen ldcs on bigger cameras, make them flip & twist too, and throw away useless/space consuming buttons, maybe keep just the wheels for manual focus, exposure, etc.
to think I just got conned into buying a T-100. DAMN YOU SONY!
Does anyone know
will Sony keep announce cybershot M series?
like m1,m2
it has been so long since Sony announce M2
Another new sony camera in my household. Time to look for a potential buyer for my T-9!
ooo pretty! :) after such a long hard decision of whether or not to buy the sony t100 I end up purchasing the Casio exilim s880 instead, since everyone had such mixed reviews about the sony t100 and now this camera comes out! wish I could have it! :(
and i just got my T-20 about 2 weeks ago. =(
Just saw a good demo of this camera from a guy in Canada.

For all the people who are mad they bought a T100 and then this came out... don't be. I have both and it's the exact same as the T100 for the most part. The differences are small. This one has the feature of auto picture taking when someone smiles... so yeah that's nice. The downside is, FINGERPRINTS... your camera won't look so cool and sexy once you start using it for 5 min unless you have really dry skin lol. Second... the battery life sucks compared to the T100. I never did get a spare for my T100 and never needed it, but for this, it runs out wayyyy too fast. There is nothing wrong with real buttons. Touch screen sounds fancy, but that's about it. The only major feature again is the camera will snap a shot when it detects someone smiling. If that's worth 400 bucks to you... go for it I guess
