Canon's PowerShot SD870 and SD950 IS Digital ELPHs pack the pixels
Looking for a dozen or so megapixels squeezed into a compact shooter are ya? Well, check Canon's latest then, the SD950 IS Digital ELPH (pictured) packs in a full 12.1 megapixels while the SD870 tones it down with just 8. The full-body titanium SD950 touts a 3.7x zoom with optical image stabilization, DIGIC III image processing, Canon's latest face recognition tech, an optical viewfinder (a rarity these days on compacts) and 2.5-inch scratch-resistant LCD with anti-reflection coating. Meanwhile, the SD870 opts for a 3.8x wide-angle optical zoom and 3-inch LCD. The SD950 and SD870 will cost you $450 and $400 respectively, when they hit shelves in September. Not what you're looking for? Stay tuned, Canon's got lots more coming today.

12.1 megapixels? I guess this will help sell the camera to people who have no clue the lens will probably never deliver a sharp enough image to the sensor to warrant even 8 megapixels (not just because of the lens quality, but also because of imperfect focus, camera shake, etc.). Oh well, lots of noise and poor low-light performance is a small price to pay for the ability to market a lot of pixels.
All im asking is widescreen and least 10x zoom , like the Lumix TZ3.
Even more megapixels on that little sensor? Man, my SD800IS is already borderline on low-light functionality; I can't imagine how much worse these models are going to be. This isn't going to end well.
TC, actually it has a larger 1/1.7" sensor compared to the old 1/2.5".
I think it will be better than the SD800IS (which isn't as good as the SD700)
Cheers
