Nokia N95 with American 3G gets FCC'd!
We're speechless. In fact, we think we might cry -- but rest assured, they're tears of joy. Rumors of a Nokia N95 packing American HSDPA have been spreading like wildfire as of late, and we're ecstatic to see that they were totally true. Though this sucker gets down with the 850 and 1900MHz bands, it doesn't get in on the 1700MHz action, suggesting that if the T-Mobile rumor is still true, this ain't it. Though arguably not quite as attractive as the decidedly non-US 8GB N95 in black that we saw this morning, this phone's innards are pretty much the most beautiful thing we've seen all day. Nokia, we turn the floor over to you to answer questions about pricing and availability.

I've been waiting for this to happen but will be highly disappointed if the initial carrier is AT&T i just switched from them because i have had such a horrible experience with them.
There's no 1700, so the 3G will only work on at&t.
Very cool! If only Nokia would now release this model in black (like the 8GB N95 we saw earlier) I would consider selling my iPhone...
Sweet Chicken!
Now let's see if we get a nice subsidized price...the N95 makes my wallet cry!
Great. Now how about the same treatment for the E90?
I can't believe it! Now to the AT&T labs, and start the crippling!!
lol, not that I wan't this to happen, but of course it will... =(
It's just a shame that the phone really does not live up to the specs then isn't it? I've had mine for a few months here in the UK and cannot wait for the iPhone to come out so I can replace it.
GPS is great but destroys battery life. The software is traditional symbian, which isn't bad - but feels slow and archaic when changing applications. The camera takes decent pics but is slow to use, and the camcorder on mine often crashes when saving videos (despite having the latest software using software updater).
It's about time Nokia learnt that there's more to making a great phone than just sticking the highest specced components you can find into a case.
My opinion is the exact opposite of yours. I want as much bleeding edge tech as possible crammed into my phone. I dont care how big or thick it is as long as the specs beat out all the rest. A measly 2 megapixel camera is not going to get my attention anymore.
As long as I have 1 device instead of many, I am happy.
Al -
If you want the best specs without as much concern for size, than get the HTC Advantage. It has every bleeding-edge tech on it, plus a bigger screen, magnetic keyboard, and built-in GPS. Oh, and the unlocked versions work anywhere in the world, plus HSDPA works a charm here in the States on AT&T.
I've had one for a few weeks, and it is a killer device...
Great Specs...Crappy user interface
As opposed to?
Personally I think the UI is fine for a non touchscreen OS. However Nokia need to include a faster processor (400Mhz minimum) and tons of RAM to make it as usable as Series 40.
Is Nokia taking out the wifi?
Umm the QVGA resolution is really lame. That makes it not convenient for looking up stuff on the web.
And I wonder how unresponsive the UI is.
QVGA has become the standard for applications and games and its easier for developers to work with.
Yeah, it seems like Nokia's flagship "Multimedia Computer" would shoot for more than 'standard' display. I've been pleased with the N80's resolution...
Nokia is pretty good about letting you get their US phones outside of a contract (so we may be able to buy the 'real, unmolested, non-ATTed' N95 through their website).
Not sure about the discussion on if T-Mobile gets it or not, or those MHz stuffs. I have been using the Europe version N95 with T-Mobile for about 4 months. Everything works including T-Zone.
yes, but can it survive a six foot drop and being stuck in the freezer for 3 hours like my nokia 1100? what's the battery life like? 6 hours? try 16 days. Also, and most importantly of all, does it make and receive phone calls? Is that not the main purpose of a cell phone? or does this piece of crap have too many other features, they "forgot it"?
Yes. Yes. A day on mine. And yes.
Comming from a N95 (classic) user.
The camera looks like the Europe version... does this mean the bigger battery has been lost? I would think a 3G phones more battery than an EDGE one...
Just looked at both the black and the US version - they should have the same larger battery. Whew.
This phone sucks big time stay away !!!! I had it for a week VERRY POOR BATTERY !!!! Crappy ass toy slider !!! PHONE FEELS LIKE A CHEAP FISHER PRICE TOY !!!! HEAD MY WORDS NOTHING BUT A DISSAPOINTMENT !!!
Wow, you typed some of your misspelled message in Caps, you must know what you're talking about!
Personally, I'm gonna get the Sony Ericsson P1i, touch screen, better camera, thinner (which I prefer over width and length), but no GPS...

PHONE SUCKS STAY AWAY !!!!
Supposedly 3G uses up battery life quickly. GPS uses up battery life quickly. WiFi uses up battery life quickly. It looks like cellphones with these features are rather power-hungry. I guess it's time for the battery makers to come up with some new technology or the phone makers better start making larger cellphones. Packing all this technology into a tiny cellphone doesn't make much sense to me if the talk time is gonna only be an hour or two.
Stupid question, but why are people always asking for GPS in their cellphones? Don't most people use cellphones on their way to work or at least usually in familiar areas. I mean like who really needs a cellphone with GPS while walking around in Manhattan. It's like people keep saying a cellphone is crap because it doesn't come with GPS. Am I missing something? Are people afraid they're gonna get lost going to the grocery store or what?
I wonder if AT&T will cripple the N95's Voip functionality just like their european counterparts did!
Mike said it best above: "This phone sucks big time stay away !!!! I had it for a week VERRY POOR BATTERY....."
I also tried this phone for a couple of weeks and if you got two hours of battery life, you were really lucky. I am using my iPhone these days, and with heavy usage, I get a solid 5 - 6 hours of use, and that means email, surfing, phone calls, etc. The Nokia would not even make through a normal morning....you would need to rotate through several batteries fully charged everyday...not worth it.
Should be sweet to use on this phone 3G with SymSMB 2.00.
I feel sorry for my friend who just got the N95 for AT&T. The edge speeds are slooooow...
Ah great news. I will be first to get this u'll see =)
heh. never stray too far frmo a power socket if you get one of these. ;-)
Its the PSP of phones.
My N95 runs all day with no battery problems ... I charge it each night, but I've been doing that with my past 3 phones (all Windows Mobile devices) and the N95 certainly does not have a battery any worse than any of those three.
I don't see what all the worry is about ...
Will this be the Wimax sprint xohm phone we've been hearing about..? to be released with the wimax n800..? anyone with any thoughts..?
Hmm, and why do you forget to mention the fact that the FCC has allowed the N95 8GB black? HMM WHY! Also known as the N95-2!
