Michael Bay responds to Paramount's abandonment of Blu-ray: "No Transformers 2 for me!"
So by now you've heard that Paramount has dropped support for Blu-ray right? Good, so has a notable Hollywood director. Michael Bay -- the man behind "Transformers," "Bad Boys," "Pear Harbor," etc. -- just threw down with Paramount in his personal blog. In a forum post titled "Paramount pisses me off!", he states, "I want people to see my movies in the best formats possible. For them to deny people who have Blu-ray sucks! They were progressive by having two formats. No Transformers 2 for me!" That's right Mike, aim your PS3 right at their coffers!
Update: Ha, so much for standing up to the boss-man. Michael's latest post now says that, "I drank the Kool Aid" blah blah blah "so I think I might be back on to do Transformers 2!" Whatever, wuss.
[Thanks, Pilam69 and Carl G.]

Looks like he's back on to do Transformers 2:

All you Micheal Bay haters go eat some shit cakes. I bet you enjoyed Broke Back Mountain and wanted seconds. I like the man's style and so do millions of box office sales figures.
Transformers (Exec Producer/Director)
The Island (Producer/Director)
Pearl Harbor (Producer/Director)
Armageddon (Producer/Director)
Bad Boys, Bad Boys II (Director)
The Rock (Director)
Watching all of these is like watching 2 hour commercials. Honestly, the funding from major companies such as Pepsi, Calvin Klein, etc. is so obvious in these movies it makes them a god awful experience to sit through. His earliest movies were his best, but now all hes good for is marketing an xbox and a mountain dew.
hahahaha he already backed down in his new blog post, what a pussy. Man Michael Bay please either grow a spine or kill yourself already.
Hm i download off net with torrent. Most of them are either HD dvd or Blue ray rips encoded to mpeg4. So either way i win :]
I've watched both hd dvd and blue ray rips and i love both their quality.
I see the benefit of Hd Dvd as it is cheaper, BUT considering the PS3 is a good bargain seeing as what you get, you could argue that is a good bargain as well to push the blue ray format ahead.
So either way both are good choices regardless. So why not do the dual format support ? It worked for dvd+ and dvd- formats :p
Paramount, a subsidiary of Viacom, on Monday said there were “clear benefits” to HD-DVD, in particular its “market-ready technology and lower manufacturing costs”.
“We really believe the HD-DVD format will be able to provide a lower price-point, which is critical for consumer take-up,” said Rob Moore, president of worldwide marketing, distribution and home entertainment. “We think HD-DVD will show a lot of momentum in the fourth quarter.”
"Lower price point critical for consumer take up"......these guys want to get the market going, blu ray is to expensive to make it happen on a large scale. Good on Paramount for having the balls to pick a side that has got the greatest chance of speeding up the HD adoption to the largest possible audience..... and someone to tell the brat Bay to pick up his toy and put it back in the box!
It's all bullsh*t

Last night at dinner I was having dinner with three Blu-Ray owners, they were pissed about no Transformers Blu-Ray and I drank the kool aid hook line and sinker. So at 1:30 in the morning I posted - nothing good ever comes out of early am posts mind you - I over reacted. I heard where Paramount is coming from and the future of HD and players that will be close to the $200 mark which is the magic number. I like what I heard.
As a director, I'm all about people seeing films in the best quality possible, and I saw and heard firsthand people upset about a corporate decision.
So today I saw 300 on HD-DVD, it rocks!
So I think I might be back on to do Transformers 2!
Michael Bay
...well, Michael Bay pisses me off!
Why does everyone hate me? I made those milk ads. Remember?
I wish your picture would just show up on a friggin' milk-carton....
Smee's comment is true. Here is a link to Bay's own blog:

Is everyone forgetting that Blu-ray STILL has more studio support? And please don't try counting the porno studios like alot of HD-DVD fans are doing, they don't count.lol.
Another thing. Blu-ray players are in alot more homes than HD-DVD now that the PS3 is out there.
Another thing. Blu-ray is the better format because it has more capacity. More is better.
I am very unhappy that Transformers will not be on blu-ray. I think that was a bad decision because its the better format.
Where I live, Blockbuster is now supporting Blu-ray as of 4 days ago. Which rules!!
I wish this stupid format war would end. The consumer is the one who loses in this. HD-DVD needs to realize that blu-ray is better and just give up and stop trying to buy the studios off.
And Also,
If HD-DVD decides to keep trying, They need to make a new commercial! If I have to see Charlize Theron jump off a building or Christian Blae roll off a mountain one more time I will shoot myself!
Pearl Harbor Has the best air fight Footage ever.
HD DVD players ARE better not only for the HD DVD movies I own out of the approximately 400 standard DVD’S But because it flat out plays standard DVD’S better than any
Br player, and the Silicon Optix's HQV chip, that is ONLY in Toshibas HD DVD player HD XA2, Look at the review at CNET.com between the Toshiba XA2 and ALL other br players.
The next lowest price DVD player that uses this chip is the $1000.00 Denon STANDARD
DVD player and it is found in most Hi End DVD players with a price tag up to $4000.00
Or the $12,500.00 Yamaha dpx-1200 projector or the $ 3000.00 Calibre VANTAGEHD
Video Processor! All this for $500 makes this the best DVD player deal in the world.
Making it the best DVD player.
Most people Have about 90% of there DVD collection in standard DVD’s , I Have bought this DVD player Not only to play HD DVD’s but because it is the best standard DVD player in the world, better than the $1000.00 Denon or the $1400.00 Arcam DVD player’s I would have bought this if it only played Standard DVD’s but instead got a Free HD DVD included. I have owned all 3 of the above DVD players and have made, the other 2 only play standard DVD's
Side by Side comparisons with all three of them The Toshiba XA2 won hand’s down on
My 120” projector screen, At 120” you can see EVERY thing.
Yes I compared it with my friends br player .
The br player looked good like a 9 on HD and the Toshiba look like a 10 on HD but when playing Standard DVD’s the br player looked like a 5 and the Toshiba look like a 9.
Remember most of your DVD’s are Standard DVD’s yes this will change and you will
Have mostly HD disc in years to come but until those years come and you will still be renting most of your DVD’s from Hollywood Video or Blockbuster, This is by far one of the best Standard DVD players on the planet
And a steel at $500 with a free HD DVD player included that looks better than br.
Remember LOOKS are what counts That’s why you buy a HD player.
And for the miss informed gentleman that says the amount of space on a disc matters need’s to really look at the VC1 format used on HD DVD. IT TAKES LESS SPACE TO MAKE A MOVIE IN THIS SUPIEOR FORMAT, HENCE LESS SPACE NEEDED,
IF THEY COULD PUT THIS SAME P.Q. PICTURE ON A 9 GIG DISC I WOULD BE HAPPY WITH 9 GIG AND BR COULD PUT THERE OLD INEFFICIENT STANDARD MPEG2 FORMAT ON THERE DISC. IF THERE WAS A 100 GIG DISC FULL OF 2nd RATE MPEG2 VIDEO AND A 5 GIG DISK FULL OF FIRST RATE VC1 VIDEO WITH TRUE HD AUDIO I WOULD TAKE THE FIRST RATE 5 GIG DISC FIRST. REMEMBER FIRST RATE IS FIRST RATE, 2nd Rate is just 2nd Rate.
Remember the HD DVD Movies still have a lot of extra space still on them even after they install the full movie in the HIGHEST P.Q. even with ALL the extras.
There is enough space on A HD DVD to put a 3 ½ in FULL P.Q. using the VC1 format.
If they did need 2 disc they would use 2 disc ,
