Windows Mobile 6 unofficially meets Dell's Axim X51v
If you think you've seen this headline before, fret not, all but one measly number is indeed the same. Of course, for Axim X51v owners, that makes all the difference in the world. Just days after Windows Mobile 6 was unofficially made available for the X50v, now X51v owners can experience the same luxury -- if you're down with voiding that warranty and living with a few bugs, that is. Reportedly, some upgraders have seen issues (or outright failures) with WiFi connectivity, Windows Live, and a number of other somewhat minor features, so be sure and read your fill before heedlessly slapping a new OS on your discontinued PDA.

This is for the x51v you douche.
You sir, are an idiot
That doesn't change the fact that you're a spamming idiot douchebag for posting a link to your myspace.
sorry that was a typo

This is good do see but I don't know if it's actually good
I've been happy on my X50v running Windows Mobile 2003SE and haven't been tempted to jump to the more buggy WM5 or 6, both which also take away more precious RAM
Besides, a lot of the homebrew apps still run better on 03SE
Still it's good to see the community still going dispite the discontinuation
the X50v and X51v are still among the fastest PDAs out there, and a lot more affordable than those that are faster

people are still using PDA's?
PDA? Whats that?
Kinda like a phone, only it doesn't do calls. Or like a PMP, only without any built-in memory. Or like a brick, only not heavy enough to throw it as far as you want it away from you.
Haha, I was actually being sarcastic.
I still use my X50v (with the WM6 upgrade). It's great for watching movies on, playing games, and has a nice big screen for browsing the web in VGA. I have yet to see a smartphone match its specs. Some have come close, but have lacked a few key features that have made me stick to my Ax. For now, my Treo does well enough as a smartphone. When a WM6 smartphone comes out that is as good as or better than my ax, then I'll consider switching. Until then, the Axim X50v/X501v remains the best PDA in existence.
the key feature for me was the 16MB intel 2700G GPU, speaking of, do you know if FPSeCe works with WM6?
The 3D accellerator was one of the key reasons I bought the X50v, and one of the things that subsequent PDAs and SmartPhones have lacked. (I'm waiting for one with the new GeForce 5500 Go in it.) I haven't tried that one specifically, but everything else I have tried that ran under WM5 has worked fine under WM6 -- I don't think there are any real compatibility issues between 5 and 6 that I've noticed (with the possible exception of things that may be written for 6 not working on 5, though this has yet to happen that I know of.) I have tried a few emulators -- MameCE3 and MegaCE3, PocketStella, and PocketAtari, and they all work perfectly.
I figured that much, cause it didn't seem hard for HTC to upgrade their 5 line to 6
but I haven't tried WM5 either
What's your RAM usage by the way? My friend's Wing has 6 with 64MB and he's down to around 12MB free usually,
I usually run the PSX emulator with as much as 20MB free
by the way, there are a number of phones with ATi Imageon and nVIDIA GoForce GPUs in Europe, their expensive to get unlocked though
best I've seen is the XDA Flame, VGA screen, 128MB RAM and a GoForce of some sort,
just under 1 grand
Is the Flame out? That's the one I've been waiting on that one for a good long time but haven't come across anything about its release. (Or maybe I missed it) Sounds pricey, but it looks sweet. As for my memory usage, after the upgrade I was left with about 30mb usable RAM. After installing and running a bunch of stuff (Wisbar Advance, SBSH PocketWeather, Chronos, Resco Explorer, etc.) I tend to float around 20mb.
That's just fine and dandy, but when does WM6 get to meet my CDMA Q?
I'm happy with mine running er.. whatever it is that's running on it right now haven't really checked. I got it for $50 off eBay installed core media player and a 16gb compact flash card and I'm set with enough movies to do me for a long time.
i posted th link to myspace because i use the axim to make music -- no need to be so rude :)
I make & receive free phone calls with my x51v over WIFI. So it is actually one of the most powerful handheld PDA phones out there. Wheeeeeeee!
