Michael Bay "drinks the Kool Aid," now supports HD DVD
Ha, so much for standing up to the boss-man. Michael's latest post now says that, "I drank the Kool Aid" blah blah blah "so I think I might be back on to do Transformers 2!" Whatever, wuss.

Bay is just showing that he has the potential for being a great politician...
I'm guessing there is a little spot in the contract that changed his mind.
yeah a bunch of green spots lol
Why am I not surprised? Wonderful, now he has a chance to completely ruin all hopes I had for a good Transformers franchise.
Michael Bay submitted to his evil robot overlords.
Err...wait...
Read the actual article next time endgadget.
Quote from Digg because I can't be bothered to type:
You Blueray guys are just a little delusional eh?
Here is what Michael Bay said:
Last night at dinner I was having dinner with three Blu-Ray owners, they were pissed about no Transformers Blu-Ray and I drank the kool aid hook line and sinker. So at 1:30 in the morning I posted - nothing good ever comes out of early am posts mind you - I over reacted.
Translation: 3 corporate types got me drunk and fed me a line, I drank the blueray-kool-aid.
No mention of Michael Bay being given any money.
This article is totally misrepresenting what Bay said, BURIED as INACCURATE.
Every company wants to know what we're doing on a day-to-day basis. Backing Sony is no different from backing Microsoft if all you care about is being watched. IF, however, you actually take some interest in who's watching you( which is pointless), then go ahead and take sides between Sony and Microsoft. Both companies are gearing up to more intrusive media, and the way we're going we're going to bicker about it in the back seat of the car until we arrive at this imminent future, whereupon we'll bicker some more about how the other guys got us there.
We're all hopeless, and Michael Bay probably realized that. He might as well make a few million dollars on the ride there.
Engadget, I don't criticize you much, but this time you're completely misreporting his blog post. He says he drank the Blu-Ray Kool Aid, made them comment, and then realized he had been suckered. The post makes it sound like he drank the HD-DVD Kool Aid after his original post. Doesn't matter though: a crappy director is still a crappy director, regardless of what format he supports.
agreed.
100% True. He clearly says that he drank the Blu-ray kool-aid. Quote: "Last night at dinner I was having dinner with three Blu-Ray owners, they were pissed about no Transformers Blu-Ray and I drank the kool aid hook line and sinker".
But funny how Engadget feels they need to spin int negatively towards the HD-DVD. Even worse is the people posting more negative comments that didn't read the blog or perhaps didn't comprehend it.
Why do we need another movie? Michael Bay is the transformer.....
I may be in the HD-DVD camp but I think I can still say it
...wuss.
"You think Sony puts too much DRM on their media? Wait till MS gets control of the movie download empire they envision. They will wrap your PC in DRM, wallpaper your house in it, and line the folds of your grey matter in it."
Yeah, And in Sony's perfect world you will have to download all your games... No hard copy, no trading in used games and no taking a game to your friends house for all to play...
Warhawk... It begins..
HD-DVD: Region free...
BLu-Ray: Region LOCKED.
SDF: But it's better!
My question is where is Bay when it comes to other studios that only support one Format (Fox, Universal, Disney)??? No negative they suck comments on those studios? And those childish, "no blue-ray, no transformers 2 for me" comments were threats that no one should have actually believed. Almost any man will do just about anything if the money is just right. To say I'm not going to do what I do for a living because my movie won't end up on Blu-ray is just asinine!
I love movies, I love movies in HD even more (they just pair so well with my HDTV, go figure) and I chose HD-DVD as my format of choice, but I'm format neutral as I recently picked up a PS3 as my Blu-ray player (Did I mention I love games as well?) I don't think that either format is going to lose, and it's time to face the fact that we are in a dual format world and it's going to remain that way I think for the entire life cycle of these formats. In the end the only real loser is the consumer because we are going to be forced into either 2 players (my combination Xbox 360 w/ HD-DVD addon, and a PS3) or dual format players. Being forced into 2 formats the consumer will just have to realize what movies are on which format before they purchase if they don't have the capability to play both. Like I said the only loser of the war is the consumer. On the bright side prices have dropped a good bit real fast, but that is about it. That fact that these formats are so close to one another in actual specifications makes this format war even more asinine than what it already is.
I guess what it comes down to is that the greed of the studios, CE companies, and anyone else that has anything to do with either format coming to market has the interest of their own pocket books in mind and not the interest of the consumer. I hope the next generation of physical movie purchasing does not have the problems of this generation (If there even will be another physical format).
That's too bad. I was certain he was going to single-handedly end the entire format war. I figured his next stunt would be to make Pearl Harbor II a Blu-Ray exclusive. That would have cinched it.
Let´s face it, the guy sucks big time. His movies are a terrible blend of sentimentalism, desproporcional explosions e plot holes. He's competing with Ed Wood.
Trashing HD-DVD and saying that he wasn't going to do Transformers 2? God, it was a great day yesterday. Now this happens. Oh well.
Transformers 2? Of course he's going to drink the kool-aid. If he doesn't they go with a different director. He has no pull on that. He's the one that retracted.
Sony vs Microsoft. Let's see... Sony beyond the drm thing, tried to put a root-kid on their music cd's to avoid copying. Most of their early mp3 players didn't really play mp3, it converted the mp3 files to a sony-proprietorized ATrac format before putting it on, so they only placed sony tracks, not mp3. Microsoft? They standardized software and hardware so that we could get computers to a point where they could be upgraded by the common man. Does anyone remember life before Windows 95? Hate it if you like, but MS pushing standards took so much frustration away from building my won systems and having difficulties with pieces working with one another. Life is so very much easier today because of that and people just forget. Besides, you're angry at MS just because they're the big dog? You'd rather have Unix? Linux can be okay, but just to install an updated video driver can be an exercise in frustration and if you are either not a long-time Linux power user or don't use Linux, you can't know what I'm talking about. How about all these codecs? Because you have an MS product, you have license to multimedia players and their codecs to play mp3 songs and various video formats. So you pay $99 for an OS.. big friggin deal! You're paying $1,500 or more for a computer anyway. Plus, you don't have to go with MS. Go with Linux. Go with McIntosh. They don't have a gun to anyone's head. There's tons of software that goes with all OS's. Big deal! I try many out. If they'd get rid of some of the reliance on the command line and simplify how video drivers are updated I'd probably go with Linux myself. It's a choice.
Well if he got "paid off" I would all the bitch moan whine session a complete success??
Pretty cheap way to get a pay increase me thinks :-)
Did he think people would be upset of he didnt do transformers 2, they would probably have brought on a better director, bay sucks balls.
So, for the first time ever, I was giving props to Michael Bay. He stood up for what he thought was right and showed some principle. Now I feel dirty and used. What a lame ass!
I thought he was upset because Paramount chose just one format, regardless of whether it was HD DVD or BluRay
Ok. I take back everything bad I said about Uwe Boll. Michael Bay sucks more, uh, cool aid--if that's what we're calling it these days. My advice to michael bay, get off your knees and stop sucking! It's just not natural
Engadget, when you completely misrepresent what someone said by going with the headline you did for this article how then can you guys say you aren't actually backing Blu-Ray in this war? Michael Bay's talking about drinking the koolaid was in reference to him buying into the Blu-Ray hype. He blamed his initial outburst on him drinking that Blu-Ray koolaid. Now he's seen the light and is koolaid free.
Tsk tsk...look at the hoards of geeks you're leading astray with this headline.
Too bad Engadget is being just as spineless as Michael Bay. Misquoting/twisting what Michael Bay wrote just to make HD-DVD-backers look bad? It's obvious when you read the article he is saying that 'drinking the kool aid' was in reference to being influenced by three BLU-RAY owners.
I think both of his posts are idiotic anyway - what kind of director just flat out announces they won't be doing a film on their blog without any consultation with a studio or agent, anyway? One looking for attention and publicity.
Also, I don't understand why Engadget is constantly anti-Sony on every front except Blu-Ray. How about reporting the formats fairly instead of trying to sway readers to support the format you blew your money on?
I have to agree. I understand that this is a blog--and the writers are certainly entitled to their opinions; however, if they fail to report news they find unsavory, or they misrepresent the news to favor their own views, then they lose credibility as a reliable source for gadget news.
Another great job at inaccurate reporting, thanks Engadget!
Has Michael Bay OR any Paramount seen the eproduct wars site? Blu-ray is cleaning the floor with HD DVD...

Holy crap - you're not kidding!
Has Michael Bay OR any Paramount seen the eproduct wars site? Blu-ray is cleaning the floor with HD DVD...
http://www.eproductwars.com/dvd/
They're still releasing this on DVD right? That's all i need to know ...i have a ps3 but i don't really care who's gonna win the format wars...
The thing is there is *no difference* in the *quality* of the picture or sound on either format. The discs are digital storage. It's all just 1s and 0s. Both formats support the same video and audio codecs. You can save the exact same data on both BR and HDDVD.
For me it's just about capacity. BR allows for more layers which means considerably higher data capacity. HDDVD allows you to play normal DVDs, but dude, for $30 you can put in an old school DVD player. In fact I'll bet you already have one that's working just fine right now.
Now the reason BluRay movies aren't looking so hot is because Sony's got some idiots in charge who are demanding they use MPEG-2 compression, for which they hold patents and which makes them a few more bucks up the food chain, instead of using more modern codecs like h.264. This decision may cause them the game which is unfortunate, because the prospect of a 200GB, 4-layer optical disc in the future does make me tingly. But if they're willing to sabotage their own standard, they deserve it.
Wearing his favorite Calvin Klein© button shirt and matching pants, playing Xbox 360© and sippin on a Mountain Dew©-Pepsi© mix drink in the back of his General Motors© Brand vehicle, Michael Bay came to the conclusion that what the boss man wants, the boss man gets.
this guy's a bitch!!! nuff said!!
