Mysterious HP PDA shows up in FCC
Not too many details on this one just yet, but it appears that Hon Hai has applied for FCC certification on a mysterious HP handheld. The PDA, which touts a model number of HSTNH-F16C, offers up Bluetooth 2.0+EDR and WiFi (802.11b/g) capabilities, USB 2.0 connectivity, and apparently comes with a lovely slip case (pictured) "to protect it from scraping." Unfortunately, that's where the secrecy takes over, as we're left to ponder what type of processor, display, etc. could possibly be coming to this newfangled device. As always, stay tuned for details.

Looks like a piece of foam to me.
It's still better than the Foleo
Maybe the guy who was selling oven doors as TVs and floor tiles as Laptops, has moved on to the hand held market.
A foam PDA....why didn't I think of that.
I think it's wrapped in foam for extra secrecy.
Looks like foam to me, must be some new fangled light weight technology.
Curses. I was beatin to it.
It's the iFoam.
Good one.
You can tell from the photo on the right that this is sporting Intel's Foam Core 2 Duo. Which will definitely make this puppy lighter, but supposedly battery-life is unfortunately non-existant.
OMG FOAMZ
About time something was made that can withstand heavy impacts.
That case doesn't look like it's constructed very well.
Doesn't have to be, the device itself is made of FOAM!
HP Innovation
I guess HP is still one of the few making PDA only devices. Who buys these things anyway with PDA phones available? Maybe it's just me...
my dad has an iPAQ phone
I'm currently working on an industrial (sort of) application that requires the use of old-fashioned PDA's. Absolutely no need for a cell phone. You'd be surprised how difficult it is to find a device running Windows Mobile with 802.11g (The G is a requirement) and no GPS/Mobile Phone/Broadband/barcode scanner attached. It's sad, really, that such a device is going to be relegated to a niche market soon.
What hell Engadget. Apple just released a press release accounting for the bowl movement frequency of it employee's. You guys have missed the ball!
Well you dropped it with your spelling (bowl movements?) are you trying to spell bowel? If your going to talk shit, at least spell it right
Mike : "If your going to talk shit, at least spell it right"
Pot scolds Kettle.
The all new HP iPAQaging Material. Stylus design by Sharpie.
Slow news day? Engadget is now manufacturing "news".
That's the exact same case that came with my iPaq 2215 I bought 4 years ago.
Dude, that is so funny. I thought the same thing as well when I first saw this. I thought it was Engadget taking another crack at time travel but this time with a '90s technology blog.
The foam is the packaging protector for the case, foam for sale slip case included.
Its the HP iPhone kinda like the HP iPod ooooo Apple your so sneaky
if you have zoom on your computer, you will be able to see that it looks like brushed steel. And the case looks like it is made of treated leather.
I zoomed. Still looks like a piece of foam in a nylon-weave-and-cheap-embossed-leather case to me. Your computer must be more powerful than mine.
Model ends in f16c that stands for Foam 1/6" Core
And they will come out in a year with a new case that is specifically designed not to work with the current foam. The current foam will not fit the new case and will require significant third party modification because HP will no longer support old foam.
HUGE MISTAKE ENGADGET.
That case is totally old,i bought an ipaq rx1955 with that case, 2 years ago.... Same for sale here http://www.wholesalepdas.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=388
*Yet another witty and original comment about foam*
@Pablo
Retard.
"and apparently comes with a lovely slip case (pictured) "to protect it from scraping.""
No where does it say "HEY GUYS, LOOKS~! NEW CASES FOR NEW PDA WE KNOW NEARLY NOTHING ABOUT~! ZOMG~!"
On 3. 1,2,3 - FOAM!!!
Uhhh... Ummm... What's a PDA?
Well, to be serious for a moment, perhaps it's for that new HP iPaq 900 that we've yet to see photos of?
A PDA? Companies are still making dedicated PDAs? Not that I mind -- I still love my Axim, I'm just a bit surprised. I thought the PDA-only market died off in favour of smartphones. *shrug* Well, whatever. The iPaq's were nice -- my first PocketPC PDA was an hx1940 -- but none of them impressed me enough to sway me from the Ax.
They have been distributing these cases for awhile now. In fact, I received one with my h2210 for work
Yeah. But can foam play Doom?
And to top it off, the hp logo is pictured upside-down...
I call fake.
