"Pandora's Battery" hack promises to unbrick all bricked PSPs
The PSP has seen plenty of hacks in its still relatively short lifespan, but it looks like this latest one from the folks at N00bz could well be one of the biggest, with it promising to do nothing short of unbricking all bricked PSPs. The key to that daunting task, it seems, was to turn an ordinary PSP battery into a so-called "service mode trigger battery," resulting in something N00bz has appropriately dubbed "Pandora's Battery." To make one of your own, you'll of course need a spare battery, as well as a working homebrew-enabled PSP to set things up with. After running a few programs on it and your PC, you should then have a battery/memory stick combo that'll let you get any PSP back up and running with the v1.5 firmware. Those looking to give it a shot can hit up the link below for the full instructions and necessary downloads.[Thanks to everyone who sent this in]

many have tested already and it works.

Should be real considering N00bz are pretty trustworthy and this is how Sony unbricks PSP's when you send them in, with a special battery.
W wonder is it would work on the new PSP-2000's?
W00t @ Aug 23rd 2007 12:58PM
Dude, you need to work on your video skills.. That was awful to watch
Grey Acumen @ Aug 23rd 2007 1:08PM
I like this. So when do these batteries start turning up on ebay?
NHAnimator @ Aug 23rd 2007 1:18PM
Awesome. I can't wait to brick my PSP.
Mike @ Aug 23rd 2007 1:26PM
I think what might be more amazing about this is that if it takes ANY PSP back to firmware v1.5 you could keep one of these around to test any newer features out by a later firmware. It should also make for more aggressive hacking since hackers should be able to use this to easily go from later versions back to 1.5. All in all I think this is way cool!

And once it's unbricked, it does about the same as when it was bricked.

Perhaps Apple was wary that something like this was possible and so it could be one of the reasons why the iPhone battery is not user serviceable.
Blake @ Aug 23rd 2007 5:00PM
I admire your effort, but no.

In order to MAKE the magical battery, you MUST have a 1.5 or hacked FW PSP in the first place... Somewhere I can send my battery to, or buy a pre hacked battery/mem combo?
If anyone knows where I might be able to get a pre set up 32mb mem stick and battery combo can you please reply to this with a link? thanks!
Panq @ Aug 24th 2007 2:57AM
Wait a few hours/days/weeks, then eBay. I guarantee it.

Pandora Battery Preparation
1. Make sure you have completed the "Memory Stick Preparation" first.
2. Plug the Memory Stick back in.
3. ***OPTIONAL *** Run the "Pandora's Battery Creator" program on the PSP and press Triangle "/" to back up the contents of your battery's flash into a file on you memory stick. The program will automatically exit. *Note:* This step is REQUIRED if you want to make this a normal battery again; otherwise it's optional.
4. Run the "Pandora's Battery Creator" program on the PSP. This prepares the battery. You will not be able to use it normally from now on unless you've taken the optional step above to revert after the fact (should be using a spare so you can keep it around anyways).
5. You now have a "Magic Memory Stick" and a "JigKick Battery". Proceed to the next section to reflash your PSP.

Before going to bed we will turn on all the flashlights at the same time and left them on overnight. We'll note down the time that the http://www.batteryfast.co.uk flashlights were turned on. When we wake up we will watch the flashlights until they go out and will record the time. If one goes out before we wake up, we will get two more of the same type of battery and watch it during the day.
