The idea of Wii sales passing up the Xbox 360 has seemed almost inevitable in the past months, as its motion-sensing gameplay and lovable pricetag have found plenty of fans in the Americas, Europe and especially in the Wii's native Japan. So far no
official numbers have hit that have the Wii past its Microsoft rival, but Vgchartz.com's own homebrew numbers, gleaned from retailers worldwide, project the Wii is slightly ahead at 10.57 million consoles sold, compared to the 360's 10.51 million. These numbers are meant to project consoles sold, not consoles shipped, which gives the sold out Wii a slight edge. There's no telling when we'll get official numbers to know all this for sure, and the 360 still has a comfortable lead over the Wii in both Europe and the States, but it's looking like we'll have a new market leader in town soon enough.

The '13 million units' talked about in this article appears to be referring to games, not systems.
YAY Wiikey!
;-)
Agreed mike, I haven't even touched my Wii (shut uppp!) since I finished Paper Mario months ago, and there will be zero time for it this holiday season (Assassins Creed, Call of Duty 4, Halo 3, the list goes on of games I would rather, and will, play instead of Mario Galaxy and SSB).
What is the point of these graphs anyway? A yay for Nintendo? Even if that information is correct, or nearly correct, the 360 still has a much higher attach rate (how many games people buy per console purchased) than the Wii and PS3 (probably combined) and the Playstation 2 continues to outsell the Wii, PS3 and Xbox 360. So really, you could make it look like any of the 3 companies are the "Clear winner" in the race to...get our money? Why are we celebrating them getting more of our money than other companies? I don't get it
I must say that while the titles you mention for the other systems are good a) Play Zelda:TP and you'll forget Halo ever existed and b) Because of the Wii's success, the third-party developers are all trying to step-up the quality of their titles for the Wii, so you might be logging in more time on the Wii then you think!
LOL...I understand the point you are trying to make and yes I have many friends that all came over to play Wii sports when I first had the console. I am not saying that wiimote gimmick was not fun at first but if you are still playing Wii sports 9 months after the launch I think you should be asking yourself whether or not you have any friends lol...
I personally got bored swinging the wiimote around basically doing the same motion (due to the lack of response from the way you swing) over and over. Yes, I had friends come over who had a blast playing it but the bottom line is that it was not fun after the 20th time doing the same thing.
Perhaps you are entertained by repeating the same simple tasks over and over, but my idea of a fun game / gaming experience is one that is challenging, thought provoking and simply not repeating the same action over and over. It’s a good thing that Nintendo changed the name from revolution because the Wii is nothing more than a gimmick, and certainly isn’t a revolution of any kind.

How long until there is an announcement?
Chris Le @ Aug 23rd 2007 12:19PM,
I got a Wii at the Nintendo World Store (Rockefeller Center) two days ago. There were only about 15-20 people on line when they opened at 9AM. Maybe the rain helped keep the line short, I don't know. They had at least 50 units in stock and one of the employees told me that they get a shipment every day.
Anyway, if you really want one, get there by 8AM and you'll be playing Wii Sports in your home that evening. If you have to work, maybe someone in your family can go.
0.43M xbox in japan vs 4.6M (PS3 + Wii), 1 in every 10 console man, way to go Xbox360!
PS3 and Wii are Japanese products (because of their company). More Japanese will buy those than the American product... Just like American cars aren't that big over there, and theres aren't over here (they kind of are, but you get the point).
The fact of the matter is, PS3 isn't selling, the Wii is doing great, and so is the 360.
all this proves is that the PS3 sucks! lmao
Well, duh, price point. Brand loyalty + low cost = better sales. It's almost a given Nintendo, especially at the start would kick some butt.
Until Xbox comes down to Wii price they are effectly in different classes. This comparison is interesting though and shows that good old fashioned stock manipulation makes people buy things up. Ebayers unite.
Plus I think Wii is owning because they continue to go after the pothead audience. :)
