Turtle Beach intros Ear Force X3 Xbox 360 headset
Turtle Beach has just expanded the headset options for Xbox 360 gamers even further, with it today introducing its Ear Force X3 unit, apparently the first wireless headset to boast independent volume control of amplified chat and game audio. You'll also get a "dynamic talkback expander" feature to automatically adjust incoming Xbox Live chat levels during loud gaming moments, along with features like automatic shut-off, bass boost, and a stereo expander to provide a "wider sound field." Of course, while they're designed for the Xbox 360, you can also simply use them as a standard pair of headphones with any other device. Look for these to start shipping early next month with a retail price of $99.95.

This seems like it would be quite useful for college gaming. Too bad I don't have a TV in my dorm room too.

Is there an option for Xbox owners who want 5.1 phones with the ability to chat on XBL?

A buddy of mine just picked up the previous verson, the X2's, he loves them. Too bad he didn't wait a month.

I'm pretty sure that's a wire coming out the bottom of those phones...
Mike @ Aug 23rd 2007 12:17PM
its the cord that connects to the controller with the mute switch on it, just like the stock 360 headsets.
coplice @ Aug 23rd 2007 12:28PM
@Mike
that mean the headphone arent wireless right?
i hope the wire of the wireless headphone is long enough to connect it to the back of a computer, and short enough to not have it anoy you when you play X360...
so much for a wireless headphone with wire...

Looks just like my old Altec Lansing 502i except for some slight design differences.

I bought the X2's about a year ago and they are great. Good sound, the wireless works very well, and chat sound quality is also good. The ONLY gripe I have about them is the lack of chat volume control. At default settings it is very hard to hear the other person. I have to manually go into each game and drop the ambient and music volumes WAY down to get a good balance. Once I do, it works fine.
So I'm pretty sure this X3 will be a great buy and will fix this one issue. It's not worth paying another $100 for me, but if you don't own one yet, go for it.

"...drop the ambient and music volumes WAY down..." Unfortunately, not all games support volume controls (like GRAW2). I've resorted to plugging in an ear-bud headset from my cell phone so i can hear my mates while we're playing. Maybe Turtle Beach will do a trade-in?!?! Come-on Turtle Beach! I'd pay a bit more to upgrade to one of these babies for sure!

The new chatpad or whatever it's called is coming out in a few weeks. It comes with another heaset because the old stock xboxlive headsets will not work with the chat pad because it doesn't have the same port once you plug the chatpad in. So I'm wondering how this headset plugs into the controller, and will it work with the chatpad? I would think you wouldn't use the chatpad while you're in the middle of a game, but you might, and it might be important to know before buying.

Looks a lot like Altec Lansing's AHS502i, well I mean identical.

ed @ Jun 10th 2008 8:53PM

Vold @ Jul 20th 2008 5:22PM
Are you able to use this headset with your computer, and does it use bluetooth then? Or is it only designed to work with Xbox 360?
