Sanyo' s LP-Z2000 3LCD projector: ugly, but a great personality
That boring piece of kit can be from none other than Sanyo. Too bad, 'cause this pig can hunt. The LP-Z2000 1080p projector loads what appears to be the same trio of Epson-made 0.74-inch LCDs as Mitsubishi's LVP-HC6000 which offers the same 10-bit color reproduction and hushed 19dB operational noise level. The Sanyo betters its peer however, with a reported 15,000:1 contrast ratio, 2x zoom, and blinding 1200 lumens off a 165W UHP lamp. They've even tossed in a couple of component connections on top of a pair of HDMI 1.3a terminals. All this for a tad more at ¥378,000 (about $3,255) if you're living in Japan where this baby hits on November 1st. Paper bag for that mug, extra.

"ugly, but a great personality"
Were you talking about the left or the right one in the picture?
again.. i bet that the projector weighs more that the girl ;)
The styling might be boring but it isn't ugly. When you are doing a presentation, you don't want people looking at the projector but at the presentation (or the presenter). The design is very clean and look better than most projectors your review...

Not ugly... And her personalities aren't that big either.
The projector doesn't have to be pretty though, it's for big conventions and home cinema systems not buisness conference tables.
power is beautifull by itself
OMGZ! It's encased in a white box. I can't believe they stole the design from the iPod.
It's not ugly - and like what "Robert" said - who the hell is going to look at it anyway?
Is it just me or has engadget been slowly transforming itself into a trite opinionated blog? More and more articles seem rather sensationalist and biased (without a counterpoint). Sure the projector is not flamboyant, but really, what is your audience going to be looking at, the beautiful 1080p or the projector? And even if they do look at the projector, who is going to care? Although engadget IS a blog, I am very sorry to find this trend becoming more apparent.
Just my observation and opinion.

Ugly, eh? I guess beauty IS in the eye of the beer holder, err, I mean beholder!
Why the hell does Engadget care about looks on absolutely everything? I mean, looks matter on some things, but knocking a PROJECTOR because it's ugly? What are you all thinking?
I think they're both beautiful.
Actually, i think it looks pretty good. I can't stand the ridiculous flamboyant bubbly crap (Like AIWA cd players) that passes as "design" these days. This simple, professional look is actually pretty nice compared to the curvy nonsense other manufacturers are making.
Besides, like mentioned plenty of times before, who cares? this isn't a screen than people look at while interacting with it, it's just about the opposite. You look at what comes out of it, which shows up somewhere else.
I'm waiting my new unit ( Z2000), i believe in the new Sanyo I had A Z1 , and Z5, and me and my family were very happy with them

I just bought a z2000 and it stopped working on the third day. Looks like several folks on the AVS forum have had the same exact problem. Basically, the unit powers off, the door shuts 90% of the way, and the warning light of death comes on. I have plugged out the unit to no avail and I will have to deal with Sanyo support on Monday. I JUST got this thing. Not good.
