Polaroid readying pocket-friendly budget PMP?
While Polaroid has certainly dabbled in the PMP realm before, the elusive black handheld that you see above could be its next foray. Reportedly, the not-yet-named (or at least we hope, as "Portable Media Player" would be laughable at best) device will boast a 2.2-inch 320 x 240 resolution display, USB 2.0 connectivity, 512MB of internal storage, a microSD expansion slot, built-in FM tuner, voice recorder, and somewhere close to 20-hours of battery life. Additionally, it's mentioned that we could see a stopwatch and a few mini-games thrown in too, and while pricing and availability details aren't confirmed, word on the street suggests that this thing will run users just under £99 ($198) -- if it ever comes out, that is.

can it play bioshock?
Sorry, the rootkit prevents that, No refunds.
This looks alright, but it looks more like a mobile,, why not check out this Samsung http://www.gadget9.com/2007/08/17/samsung-yp-s5-yp-t10-portable-media-player/ , It looks heaps better
Person One: hey, bring over your iPod so we can hook it up to the stereo!
Person Two: uhh... I don't have an iPod. But I do have a Polaroid...
Person One: dude, I wasn't talking about cameras, I was talking about music players.
Person Two: yeah... um... I have a Polaroid Portable Media Player. It plays music too.
:D
Say what you like, but I have a Polaroid TV, and it's quite nice.
512 MB for $200???
I think Polaroid REALLY thinks it's 2001.
yep, i got a 256mb with sd slot for $20 and a 1gb sd card for $10..
this thing is definately not budget-friendly
Yeah, you can buy a Sansa e240 at Futureshop (here in Canada) for $120 with 4gb of storage, a MicroSD slot, FM tuner, and it does all the normal PMP functions (music as well as movies). Also by installing Rockbox (http://www.rockbox.org/) you can play games and make your own plugins :)
Polaroid are supposed to make, well, Polaroids. They stopped making their cameras it seems and the film will be available for the next ten years. too bad.
Polaroid is a name only now. It has zero affiliation with the company that once made film, cameras & sunglasses. They are the definition of the term 'sold out'
there is no concern with quality at all - write the check, use their name.
So if you manufacture some cheap ass gizmo, TV, dvd player whatever - and don't want to use the unrecognizable name of your low budget company, use a familiar name like Polaroid.
To me, if I see the name 'Polaroid' on any new products, I immediately write it off as low quality garbage.
A truly 'pocket-friendly' music player would be flexible.

When are all ya'll ipod/phone people gonna notice that the emperor ain't wearing no clothes ??
I forgot to add that it does have a name at least from 6 months ago when I bought it its called the MPA-20011S

not sure how 160 US compares to 88 US ? I've used the MPIO which is nice, but the Polaroid really was a pleasant surprise.
