HTC announces TyTN II / Kaiser for Europe
Well it's not quite as good as, say, AT&T informing us that we can walk down the block and pick up one this afternoon, but at least HTC has finally given the Kaiser / TyTN II / 8925 an official place in its lineup. Announcing the quad band Windows Mobile 6 handset for European carriers this morning, HTC revealed that Orange, Voda, T-Mobile, and o2 will all get their hands on this Hermes successor, and all the HSDPA, WiFi, and built-n GPS goodness that comes with it. We wish we had more info on plans for a US release, but with TyTN II hitting the EU in October, we suspect it's only a matter of weeks until we can toss the old 8525 into the retired gadgets drawer. It doesn't look like they deliver quite yet. I have one in order, and the online retailer indicates 5 devices as unconfirmed for September 1. I suspect that I will not get it before sometime in October though. Other than that, yes --get the unlocked device and have fun in the U.S. I assume you're not with Sprint or Verizon who are stuck in the mud with CDMA.

Did they have a 10 year old format the PDF press report?
Geir @ Aug 28th 2007 9:36AM
No, he was on vacation....

Anybody has the latest information on the HTC Omni? Really need the high res screen. Own the tytn now but it's a shame they did not put the high res screen in the Kaiser.

no apple involved = no breaking news?
Geir @ Aug 28th 2007 9:47AM
This is hardly a phone for the masses, this is the über-phone...and I've never heard of HTC fanboys who camp out at night to get a phone...but maybe that will change when the market realize what hit 'em... :-)
jilie @ Aug 28th 2007 10:45AM
because the ipony is for the masses?

Looks like release is the beginning of September if the rumors are true. Also sounds like it won't be called the 8925 but rather the AT&T Tilt. Who knows though. There were three FCC filings.

I would kill to see what's in your retired gadgets drawer.
mateo @ Aug 28th 2007 10:30AM
Instead of tossing that 8525 in the drawer, could you perhaps toss it into a box with my address and some postage on it?
... I'm trying to afford to purchase an old 8125 at the moment.
jilie @ Aug 28th 2007 10:48AM
oh i just noticed, now it's tagged as breaking news
PG @ Aug 28th 2007 11:37AM
Hmmm.. HTC's press release does not mention a built-in GPS receiver.
dion @ Aug 28th 2007 11:37AM

I'm not sure if this is a scam or not, but there is a website claiming to have the Kaiser for sale this coming Friday.

$798.99 is rather pricey.
Parm @ Aug 28th 2007 3:27PM
I've waited just about all year for this phone. I've been due an upgrade since around March and though other phones have since caught my eye, nothing quite matches up to the Kaiser. It can do just about everything other than cook your breakfast - and there's probably an app for that too!
Ghead @ Aug 28th 2007 6:05PM
I dunno - I have an 8525, and I have some issues with its usability. It's a reasonably decent phone and the interface is OK about 85% of the time. But then I try to drive and make a call at the same time and I get PO'ed (yeah, yeah I know I shouldn't drive and call...).
The GPS part has me intrigued, but that's a memory issue waiting to happen.
Don't count on AT&T selling this for anything less that $600 once they get their mitts on it.

What a beautiful phone. To bad I just bought my TyTN yesterday :(
anthone @ Aug 29th 2007 1:17AM
heyyy i have TyTN! Man that looks sweet. I bet its the same features with win6 added. lololol This will last me awhile. Maybe Ill upgrade when TyTn 3 comes.
I love EU version phones.
Kaiser777 @ Sep 10th 2007 9:00PM
Got the TYTN II today. Exchange email support, GPS, 3G (downloaded Tom-Tom 4 meg install in 30 seconds!). Do those with an iPhone and I may consider it to be worthy competition.

So when is T-Mobile set to receive this sexy device??
