Pantech C810, AT&T's homage to the Helio Ocean
What would you get if you crossed a Helio Ocean, Windows Mobile 6 Standard, and UMTS? This here Pantech C810, naturally. Boy Genius Report has pictures of the AT&T-branded device being called "Mustang" and "Duo" internally, though it's not known whether either of those names will make it to production; features are said to include a 3G radio of some sort (either UMTS or UMTS / HSDPA), microSD expansion, that wild dual-slide action with a numeric keypad in one direction and a full QWERTY deal in the other, and a 65,000-color display -- but other than that, we're in the dark. It's rumored to be hitting as soon as next month for $250 on contract, and if this all checks out, we suspect AT&T may have a difficult time keeping 'em stocked.
Update: We've heard from several folks that this device may actually be the C810, which would be more in line with Pantech's naming convention for AT&T devices. We'll keep you updated.

Wait, what company are you claiming is ripping off what company, kuzu-b?
Last time I checked, both the Ocean and the C180 were both manufactured by Pantech, which is from South Korea.

Seeing as Pantech made the Ocean... I'd expect this one to be... a little sexier... also: no dedicated "@" button on the keyboard, although the keys look bigger than the ones on the Ocean

This is the ugliest damn iPhone I've ever seen!
Cardbored @ Aug 28th 2007 3:29PM
Your right, because it isn't an iPhone, it's better

It's like a Helio Ocean, but ugly and without all the cool messaging and gps apps. No thanks.
BigD @ Aug 28th 2007 10:27PM
It has WinMo 6....meaning you can download and install the apps you want.

Um, you can delete my previous comment (and this one too). The jerk I was originally replying to appears to have gotten his comment deleted...

it may be thinner and have windows mobile 6, but the ocean is wayyyyyyyyy better! not only in looks but also in features.
Quote from Steve Jobs about Helio Ocean:
"This phone is at least 5 years ahead of any other phone on the market!"
;) hahaha

I had the Ocean. It was pretty. It was a great piece of hardware. And the OS was written by chimps. No multitasking. Want to browse the web? OK, first the Ocean insists on taking you to a brain-dead mobilized version of the page that's been cut to pieces (far inferior to the mobilizing done by the Sidekick). Now, reload the page as html. Wait, somebody's sent you a message. To read it, you have to exit the browser application. Oops, it turns out the message wasn't important. OK, now relaunch the browser from scratch again. Now reload the page you were reading. Reload it again to get the html version. Oh wait, look, another message!
An internet phone without multitasking is an internet phone to be avoided. Windows Mobile 6 may not be the greatest OS in the world, but you can keep multiple apps open at the same time, and switch quickly between them. Same with the Sidekick. (That's only my biggest complaint about the Ocean- there are many more though.)

Hey Goodman,
Just install Opera Mini. I use it on my Ocean now and though I can not multitask it cuts way down on the "time" it takes to switch from one function to another.
If I get a message or an email notification while surfing all I need do is back out of Opera... check said message... then open Opera back (it loads in less than half the time of the default browser) and their is my last few pages in the history. I just click the top one and poof, I'm where I was when I left.
Yeah, it's not true multitasking, but if you are so busy that you get that many IMs, emails and SMS messages, you may need to consider something else.
For the rest of us out there who can wait 4 seconds or even let messages wait until we are done surfing... Helio Ocean is the ONLY way to go.
I love mine. IT does more than I can keep up with. I sold my Palm T|X and my Treo after I got this sweet, sweet phone... um, I mean "devise."
Keep looking on their site. They switch up their offerings. They had it were one could get the Ocean without a 2 year contract. They even had unlimited EVERYTHING (talk, email, SMS, IM, picture messaging, video messaging and Internet) for less than $99/month!
Yeah, iPhone is nice. And if it were on another network I'd have to give it another look. I have had every provider at some point and I must say that Helio has been as good or better than each.
This phone is ahead of its time and I like that.
Just my thoughts... not "law," so please don't everybody get hissy.
Thanks,
~g
