Ready for it? We've got the release date for Samsung's tasty new Bluetooth media players with FM tuners: the
YP-P2 and
YP-T10. September. Ok, it's not so much a date as a range, but mark your calendars anyway and get to saving. How much? Good question, Sammy ain't saying, but you'd best start combing your pockets for the couple of hundie they'll demand. Think about it: the P2 (pictured) brings a proper 16:9 widescreen, 3-inch touchscreen display with up to 8GB of audio/video-hungry flash while the T10 wraps 4GB of your audio and video in a 0.3-inch, super thin dose of sex-ay. Just check the gallery and full specs after the break if you need more convincing.

Just to get a few things outta the way;
Yes, it will blend
Yes, the white one looks like an iPod rip-off
Yes, the black one looks like an iPhone rip-off
Yes, its shiny therefore it will scratch
Yes, there will be lawsuits for some odd reason
Yes, everyone is a dumbass and can't use a device with more then one button
No, it does not play doom
Now that that's outta the way, let the bashing begin. ;)
LordFarkward @ Aug 28th 2007 3:18AM
do you, for one, welcome the BT+FM equipped easily scratched/blended ipod/iphone ripoffs non-doom-playing overlords?
Pans @ Aug 28th 2007 7:36AM
Whenever there is a device that is better than an iPod, the first thing out of the fanboys mouths is how it is a "rip-off".
God only knows how this is a ripp-off.
Oh and get ready for some heavy Samsung PMP bashing as the Apple tards are getting a bit nervous.
mikey @ Aug 28th 2007 10:11AM
I'm a total apple fanboy, but that thing is hot. as a device it beats my 5.5g iPod hands down. Reason i won't be getting one though is because as far as i can see, it doesn't provide anything decent on the software side.
Apple fanboy or not, you have to admit iTunes is a killer app.
Still though...why do i get the feeling somethings about to appear to destroy this on sept 5th?
Sunny @ Nov 26th 2007 4:57PM
iPod rip-off???NO WAY, i got one, and its WAY BETTER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Naveed @ Aug 28th 2007 3:12AM
not many bluetooth DAPs stateside if any
Tommy_2Tall @ Aug 28th 2007 4:06AM
"Bluetooth 2.0" doesn't say that much to me...
It would be fun to know which Bluetooth profiles will be supported by these devices;
Stereo audio?
File transfer?
HID device/remote control?
I like the fact that Bluetooth is staaaarting to make it's way into the PMP arena though.. kinda like Ferdinand, that wimpy little bull that Disney made a movie about. :D
cyuzna @ Aug 28th 2007 4:24AM
That's 'cause bluetooth headphones are sucky to the max.
Tommy 2Tall @ Aug 28th 2007 4:20AM
Bluetooth DAP's are a nice idea but I'd like to know what kind of "Bluetooth 2.0 support" they pack.
There are a lot of different Bluetooth "profiles" so just saying that it supports Bluetooth is a bit vague.'
Will we be able to send/receive files via Bluetooth?
I assume that stereo audio is a given Bluetooth profile for the DAP's?
Remote screen profile?
Human Interface Device profile (using it as a remote for your PC/whatever)?
Montusama @ Aug 28th 2007 5:03AM
Is it too much to ask for XviD support??!
I take it WMV9 means it supports .WMV and MPEG4 means it supports .mp4 or just special encoded mpeg4?
Ihar `Philips` Filipau @ Aug 28th 2007 7:09AM
No AAC? No OGG? No DivX/XviD?
Well, that seems device for limited audience...
Galley @ Aug 28th 2007 9:17AM
How does a device support MPEG-4 video, but not audio (AAC)?
Anyway, it's nice seeing a true 16:9 screen, something the iPod may never have.
Ihar `Philips` Filipau @ Aug 28th 2007 9:24AM
Just like whole bunch of devices already on market do: by simply ignoring files with .aac and .m4a extensions?
Michael @ Aug 28th 2007 9:17AM
At the very least it should also support WAV and AAC.
Still it's a pretty nice looking player.
Depending on the price and what Apple offers up this September I might be inclined to check one out.
Michael @ Aug 28th 2007 9:19AM
One question, does it do H.264 Mpeg4?
With flash going H.264 this year I don't think I'd want to buy into a player that doesn't support that.
Ihar `Philips` Filipau @ Aug 28th 2007 9:34AM
h.264 consumes too much power. I know some guys who do recode h.264 into divx just to watch videos on notebooks. Unless of course Samsung has implemented h.264 completely in hardware (what I doubt).
And I doubt that screen size would let you see much difference.
Storage-wise, most free popular h.264 codecs at lower bitrates unfortunately produce lower quality - compared to divx/xvid codecs. IOW, h.264 files take more (or same) space right now.
Mark @ Aug 28th 2007 6:01PM
h.264 is ahead of its time. XviD is much better - faster to encode, almost the same quality-to-filesize ratio, more portable, and plays on more devices.
When we're all rocking quad-core processors in our phones, h.264 will be the shizznit.
Michael @ Aug 28th 2007 7:56PM
Yeah but guys that's great and all but this device doesn't support Xvid either.
Corean @ Sep 18th 2007 9:03PM
There is a phone that supports DivX, and h.264. It's Samsung F500 and F510, (the only difference is that 510 has tv i think).
Adam @ Aug 28th 2007 10:48PM
Definitely disagree on the ITunes killer app side. It's terrible when a device is used on multiple computers and sucks with its proprietary format.
mikey @ Aug 28th 2007 10:50PM
you've got a point.
siriusfox @ Aug 28th 2007 1:12PM
Give me an iTunes plugin to manage the music and I'll use it. I don't need to play DRMed Music, I just want to be able to manage my music through iTunes and I'll be good.
Mark @ Aug 28th 2007 6:01PM
Do non-Apple iTunes plugins even exist?
Andre Riviere @ Aug 29th 2007 12:57AM
The Bluetooth in this is going to make it possible for you to use your mp3 player as a bluetooth headset. Thats the killer feature. When your phone rings you're alerted on your mp3 player and you can answer it right there. You hear the persons voice through the heaphones and can talk to them through the built-in microphone. One of the pics even shows a dialing pad which means you can initiate calls with it. How is no one excited about tht! When it comes out that will be the feature that sets it apart from the rest. I doubt Apple is adding Bluetooth 2.0 to their devices.

This is a killer Mp3...and who cares if they copied? Playstation basically copied Nintendo with their console. But the Playstation was better than the N64(only cus the disks)and this samsung saw how much people bought the Iphone and Itouch and wanted a peice of the pie. The only reason people arent waiting in line for it is because not many know about it....
