Sony prepping an NWZ-series of Walkmans?
Not 100% clear what's going on here, but it looks like a new network Walkman was loosed (or is about to be) somewhere in the world. Cutting through the blur, we see that both players will offer 18 hours of video / 33 hours of audio with support for DRM'd WMA files. Both models -- NWZ-S615F (we think) and NWZ-A815 -- offer 2GB of flash and mimic the style of Sony's NW-A800 series of Walkman devices. Our tipster tells us to expect a launch in September so we'll know the poop soon enough.
Update: A bit more rumor mongering for ya. The NWZ-A series will launch in 2, 4, and 8GB models in black, white, silver, and pink (8GB is black-only). The NWZ-S series includes an FM tuner. Both support USB Mass Storage with an announcement as early as Friday.
[Thanks, Anna and Dan]

It'll be pretty much just like the NW-800 series, except it'll be UMS. It will likely be shown at IFA and should be released on Sept. 3rd
poop?
Oh wow, that's gorgeous. Let's keep fingers crossed that like their other most recent devices, they work as a mass storage device.
I don't have a problem with Sonic Stage per-say, but I already have my media library set up in another application and would prefer to use that than hassle with another library every time I want to add new songs.
ffs!

:'( Cry me a river.
Someone needs to learn how to use the macro feature on their digital camera.
Unless it's taken from a camera phone, in which case... use a digital camera next time! :)

...What? I didn't take those pictures.
Why would I be commenting on Engadget to tell myself to use a feature on a digital camera?

------------
it's a universal law that the first to handle new models must take pics blurred. It cannot be broken.
I thought it was a phone
These pictures were taken in the back room of a Sony Style store. They're not to be released for a few days.

No Sonic Stage. Just Windows Media for these guys.
O_O!!! I think Sony's beginning to get it right this time... I always thought Sony Walkmans look really gorgeous, but Sonic Stage instead of WMP ruined it.
That A815 has been out in Japan for a while now. It comes in 2, 4, and 8GB capacities.
I would imagine that the S615F would offer similar capacities, since it's a bit on the hefty side.
Wow. _another_ candy bar. What will they think of next?
Yeah, I mean why don't they take Apple's lead and completely reinvent their device form-factors at every refresh? Sony are so out of touch when compared to Apple et al, so lacking in innovation.
Oh, hang on a sec.........
apple reinvented the ipod? when? and dont say the iphone.
Jay, you're missing my point. I don't view the iPhone as the be-all and end all of phones. I'm a thin flip or slider guy.
But Sony annoys the bejeepers out of me with their propensity for BORING looking candybars. Look at their current lineup - One slider (which actually looks like a nice phone; thin, stylish, feature-packed), one swivel that's old, outdated and thick, two ugly- and chunky-as-hell flips (They have the nerve to call one of them "compact" at 1" thick), and SEVEN extremely similar-looking candybars. Okay one of them (w950i) has a touchscreen, but then again, why waste so much space on a thick bezel and hard keypad with it? Make it a slider if you must have a hard keypad.
Honestly, how many candybars do you need? The way I see it: 3.
1 - Entry Level (thicker, less memory/features, cheaper)
2 - "Active" Seems they have to make a phone that's drop and water proof
3 - Elite (thin, lots of memory, distinctive looking, ditch the plastic)
Sony was cool back when they made the swivel phone. That was innovative and neat. I didn't buy it because it was too thick, and they never did much to improve that.
And here they come with another phone that looks exactly like the Nokia 6030. Forgive me if I don't wee my pants.
Dude, its an mp3 player...
Riggs, it's called sarcasm.

with DRM! Wow I can wait!
includes the nightmare-inducing sonicstage i presume? no thanx.
See my previous entry.
So far as I know there isn't any mac support.
Found it on sonystyle.com. Apparently it ships on the 30th.

What we have here is a very clear image of what appears to be a rare silver python cornered up against a wall.
