We don't yet know a lot about this happening new HP desktop, except that it's been dubbed the Virtus and it's got some fairly slick design. We'll hit you up with more as we get it -- for now, bask in our gallery of leaked shots.
I read the same thing. I had to go back and make sure they didn't actually mispell it.
That is a big naming mistake!!
At least they won't have to worry about anyone trying to steal their trademark. I don't foresee anyone wanting to make a Virus, sorry, Virtus computer.
I hope that that's not a handle on the top, it looks pretty weak to lift all that weight if it is. Knowing people they'll try to lift that sucker and SNAP! BOOM! say good-bye to your $1700 rig.
No wonder HP is selling more computers than Dell. They are putting in efforts in the design department. Dell computers are equally as boring as the company logo.
I hope the insides are as powerful as the outside (visually). This with an 8800GTX, an X6800, and some Corsair DDR2 RAM would definately be powerful enough of a threat for XPS.
One thing I have doubts about is the name. Like another poster mentioned here, the name sounds too close to virus....which is what first came to my mind when I read the name. Hmm...
I like the honeycomb grill design on the side...that's very cool. So where does this case design stand compared to others? In my opinion, this is where it would stand:
That does look pretty sleek. My first ever PC was an HP, has lasted for years, and is still going. So if my next computer is not one I build I may check that out.
I'm hoping the screen printing isn't set, thats a pretty damn feminine design going on there. However the multiple shots show two designs, so it's probably not in stone.
The one thing that troubles me is the shot in the middle. WTF is up with that cord coming out the back O.o USB? if so, WTFZORZ!?
Sorry, I'm not sold. So far all I see is a computer box. It's not an integrated CPU in a monitor or small footprint computer. This is just a box. A pretty box, but still a box. I love the design cues, but the function is uninspired. Drive bay doors? That is such a cop out. It's easy to make something pallatable if you cover up the uglies. THe hard part is making the uglies pretty. Apple has had good success in this regard (mind you I am no Apple fanboy). Nokia's new line of cell phones also seem to stress the function as well as the form.
Why not use an ITX platform to develope an integrated monitor/CPU with the styling cues shown here?
So, what's the deal with the cord coming out of the back of the top of this case? Anyone? iPod/MP3 hookup? Something else? For some reason it's nagging at me.
What's the cable? Could it be to connect a camera? They did away with the docking station so they can continue to change camera form factors. Whoever came up with the name should be shot. What a DUD! I wonder how much that cost?
Like the look, using coolmaster myself but hey will it still be an HP inside? If so I wouldn't buy it if it was free. I have had no luck at all with HP computers, bought 3 new ones two years ago, my neighbor bought 2, none are working today for various reasons.Love HP printers, they just work, hate their computers, they just don't IME.
I'm really hoping that you can just buy that case without all the stuff on the inside. I've been wanting to build a new computer for some time now but want a sexy and sleek looking case (most of the ones I've seen are either too plain or too crazy looking). But if not, that thing better have some good specs and be easy to upgrade. My current computer is so compact that it is sometimes difficult to move things around (I didn't build it myself, it was store-bought).
Anybody think this might be the mystery product/product line hinted at back in April by Rahul Sood and seconded by Susie Wee in the days that followed. The outstanding design seems like a good fit with an upscale image and new technology implementation.
Now that we've thrown 'em off the trail, use the form below to get in touch with the people at Engadget. Please fill in all of the required fields because they're required.
why not just call it the HP "Voodoo".
If you knew exactly about the Voodoo/HP acquisition, you would know this has nothing to do with Voodoo.
Looks like possibly HP's second Home Server box to me. 4 drive bays up front just like the other one possibly.

Yes, it has something to do with Voodoo...
You're gonna say "yes it does" and back yourself up with someone's "If we had to guess..."
I hope you never use a blog post that says "if we had to guess" as a source for a research paper.
Im cocky and smarter than everyone... you must know nothing cuz i know everything and everyone is dumb.
i tell you what. regardless of innards, i'd rather have to stare at this all day than the bland grey/blue hunk of arse i have to stare at now.
Why would you be staring at your PC in the first place?
it's generally still more interesting than whatever work i have up on the screen.....
ignore the version of this down below. goofed on the reply
I don't know...."Virtus" spelled too close to "Virus" and may drive some consumers away.
That's what I read at first: "HP Virus"
It's like making the mistake of naming a computer "HP Herpeis." lol
I read the same thing. I had to go back and make sure they didn't actually mispell it.

Hey, HP learned something! People like pretty things. Good job, HP.
now if we can forward this message to dell
Looks great, lets just hope the inside is as good as the outside
OMG, that the sexiest non-Apple design I've seen in years. Maybe ever!
what's it for? OEMs usually try to rip gamers off with designer cases but that looks too fruity for a gaming PC.
That looks really cool. It's good to see companies focusing on design now.
Where are all the stickers?!
No wonder HP is selling more computers than Dell. They are putting in efforts in the design department. Dell computers are equally as boring as the company logo.
Shame you can't buy empty PC cases like this off the shelf.
Looks nice, but that artwork reminds me of wyld stallyns for some reason...
I also read "HP Virus". Did you know that over 80% of the human population has already been infected with it?
I hope the insides are as powerful as the outside (visually). This with an 8800GTX, an X6800, and some Corsair DDR2 RAM would definately be powerful enough of a threat for XPS.

I like the honeycomb grill design on the side...that's very cool. So where does this case design stand compared to others? In my opinion, this is where it would stand:
1. Apple's Mac Pro design
2. CoolerMaster Stacker CM830
3. Alienware Area-51 ALX variation
4. Dell XPS
5. HP's Virtus
-----------------------------
Others:
6. Coolermaster WaveMaster
7. Coolermaster Soprano
8. VoodooPC
9. LianLI designs
10. NZXT Lexa design
I made that list with design originality in mind. It's only my opinion ofcourse, definately that HP case is in the Top 5.
Thermaltake makes the Soprano, not Coolermaster.
Forgive me for nitpicking.
@ Steve
Ah my mistake mate. I was so quick in writing that, that it never crossed my mind.
i think if they changed the blue to white, and make it a black and white model, that would look sweet.
ZOMG IPHONE CHROME BORDERS!!1!ELEVEN!
FAIL
damn thats a tight ass case........
can I buy JUST that?? lol
That does look pretty sleek. My first ever PC was an HP, has lasted for years, and is still going. So if my next computer is not one I build I may check that out.
It looks like lipstick on a pig.
yeah i think it looks hot too
that would be a compliment had it been spiderpig
it's generally still more interesting than whatever work i have up on the screen.....
There is a reason HP is number one.
Design, price and availability. Dell had better come up with something other than silver painted Inspirons if they want to catch HP again.
time to invest in HP!!!
I'm hoping the screen printing isn't set, thats a pretty damn feminine design going on there. However the multiple shots show two designs, so it's probably not in stone.

3 words: I want one.
HP Sirocco Black Designer Edition.
i mistakenly read it as "HP Virus" :P
That actually looks really nice. O.o
Beats how Dell's XPS desktop PCs look like by a long shot. -_-;
And, it's not as flashy as a Alienware desktop tower.
This is sleek and simple. I like that.
First thought: "My! What a funny looking wastebasket."
So, what's the deal with the cord coming out of the back of the top of this case? Anyone? iPod/MP3 hookup? Something else? For some reason it's nagging at me.
Nice pretty design. I like! But does it air cool just as good as it look?
Wow. That is absolutely gorgeous, I want that case!
Now my computer can have an abstract design that matches the design on my GAP t-shirt.
What's the cable?
Could it be to connect a camera? They did away with the docking station so they can continue to change camera form factors.
Whoever came up with the name should be shot.

*drool*
does it really need that graphic?
COME ON!
WOW MOM WOW! That PC is mine, mine, mine. This is the best attempt so far at making a "cool" looking PC. HP is on top, yo!
