Rumors unleashed: Wireless iTunes Store to debut Wednesday?
Wild rumoring is of course inevitable with an Apple event on the horizon, and MacDailyNews is doing its part with this latest wireless iTunes doozy. Apparently alongside the oft-rumored wireless iPods, Wednesday will also bring "wireless iTunes Store sales" to the iPhone and said iPods. MacDaily's source also claims that the iPods will indeed be Mac OS X-based, and that we should "Prepare to be stunned [with] iPod's new capabilities." Of course, a wireless iPod is perfectly plausible, and a wireless iTunes store seems like something Apple's going to have to break down and build sooner or later, but there's really no telling that the cited source has any inside line on such a thing, so we're going to remain firmly skeptical on this one until we get a few hard facts -- like a wireless iTunes Store, for instance.

It could include the release of the Beatles library since the artwork is directly after the artwork for the Beastie Boys.
...just another thought.
The cover art is, unfortunately, not in alphabetical order :-(
Nice thinking. That's probably Apple's way of telling us without telling us; it really makes sense tho.
Also, I really don't want to download songs [God forbid videos] over EDGE.
According to the text of The Beatles' final press release in 1970:
"When the spinning stops — that'll be the time to worry, not before. Until then, the Beatles are alive and well and the beat goes on, the beat goes on."
Trizz, you might be on to something here...
Jobs will probably claim he put out the first wireless DAP as well, if this rumor is true.
I don't understand why Microsoft couldn't make ZUNE more like the Sansa Connect. Or even better - have a wireless purchasing ability.
Well, first they need to sell a Zune.
^^^ Ha HA!
Actually it is in Alphabetical order but in relation to album title no artist...
Keane - Under the iron sea, Jack Johnson - Under the maple tree.
I need a new iPod anyway so i'll buy whatever they are releasing !
Keane - Under The Iron Sea
Flaming Lips - Yoshi Battles The Pink Robots
Mika - Life In Cartoon Motion
Don't know about your alphabet, but mine doesnt go U-Y-L ;-)
That Jack Johnson album is actually "In Between Dreams".

How fast is EDGE? Would a 5-6meg song not take a while to download (like 10 minutes)?
It'd take about 4 minutes for a 6MB song. (Assuming 200kbps)
According to http://iphonenetworktest.com the average edge speed is 210kbps
In your dreams. I've never gotten consistent EDGE from Cingular's network at that speed. Realistically it will be something like half of that speed during the day. At night, I've noticed that downloads are faster and can touch 180Kbps.
I hope its not touch screen based.. we have something called winter up here in Canada.
eh?
Oh mann.
I distinctly remember reading in Popular Science about gloves designed to work with iPods, and presumably the iPhone's touchscreen.
I think they used very thin silver or something to that effect,
but I read this a while ago.
Still,
some Googling might do it for you. :)
!
I found it.

'Twas silver-alloy.
Wireless ITMS is something everybody's waiting for ages. Now that Nokia launched its Ovi store, the field has been opened.
**ATTENTION**
The all-new "iPod Touch" MAC OSX platform, 3.5" Widescreen in 80GB and 120GB flavors b, g, and n WIFI capabilities, portrait and landscape accelerometer for viewing your favorite movies, integrated iTunes store, bluetooth stereo headphones (optional headphone available) starting at $499.
$499 for a iPhone without the phone? Highly doubt that. More like starting at $299.
This "iPhone without a phone" adds a few gigs in (on the order of 76GB for $500 and apparently 112GB on the $600? model)
@CMC
1. Uh, What? do you remember when the iPod Photo debued? $499. Starting price.
2. An iPhone minus 2 year contract with AT&T, minus monthy charges, plus say about 100 gigs or so eqauls kick ass.
The real cost for an iPhone is, at a very minimum (refurbished 4 GB model with 2 years contract at the minimum $60 per month and never going over the monthly limit on talk minutes, nor using it overseas) is $1839, not counting taxes on the phone and those bogus extra fees carriers tack on monthly. Is there an activation fee as well? So, $499 for a new iPod that is an iPhone without the phone (but with wifi browsing and such) is a relative bargain.
Apple we need an 160 gb hdd wifi-iPod that does everything including gps, can you deliver?
I hope it is touch screen based even though I live in Canada. Because using a click wheeel through gloves isn't exactly a piece of cake either. However if it is wireless I am assuming that it would be through wifi and not hdsp or wimax or wahtever.
umm...you think using a touch screen with gloves on will be EASIER than using a click wheel with gloves on?
No but either way you really have to take off your gloves so it doesn't make to much of a difference and I'm willing to make that trade off for increased screen real estate.

I sure hope they're right about WiFi iPods. I'm ready to buy the wide-screen iPod Touch/WiFi on the spot. $499, no problem.
Knowing my luck, the wireless iTunes connection will probably only work with iPhones.
Of course this whole article might have been started by somebody blowing smoke out of his/her butt.
How do you know for certain that the latest iPod won't be able put CoverFlow in alphabetical order? Well, I hope it can for your sake. I don't really care about that feature. I'll settle for a type-in search feature. However, I really just want to watch videos in wide-screen glory.
I'm really psyched up for the wide-screen version, but WiFi is the cherry-on-top.
If it is wifi would we be able to play through airtunes? This is essential!
We'll pass your demands onto Steve, and get right on that.....
I'm hoping this doesn't go flash based a la the iPhone. However, perhaps we'll see both an HD and a solid-state variant emerge next week.
Sounds like I might be getting a new iPod for Christmas!
It's not possible to make a full-sized iPod in comparable capacities to what's out there today in any affordable way using only flash storage. Prices on flash storage are still too high.
No, but they could simply keep the existing design as the lone hard drive model for those that need high capacity, and have the new iPods be flash based only. Not that I'd want them to do that, mind you.
I just want it to mow my lawn...that's it, just mow my lawn... well, and play music...
and doom
Now you're talking! Steve Jobs owes us like $50 billion now!
I sure hope if the wireless thing is true for the ipod and iPhone that they add the ability to copy music OFF of the iPod and iPhone so you can back it up to a PC/Mac.
I am certain that everything will sync back to iTunes on your computer, as it does now. This would deal a nice blow to the greedy US carriers which want you to pay twice for music on your computer *and* phone, twice. :)
if its that expensive why not just buy an iphone. your trading the phone capabilities for a hard drive.
what bout gaming
that sounds pretty stunning to me
not games like pacman but real games
games on an ipod!!!!!!! w0w
im in over my head
iPod games are teh sux
People are willing to spring 500$ for something that plays music with a widescreen and wifi, but not for PS3... sony needs to figure out how to advertise...
You can't really fit a PS3 in your pocket... different markets here. Although I agree :P
Obviously, sony's marketing sucks. From a strictly marketing stand point Apple is amazing. Start off with their debut superbowl ad which made superbowl advertising what it is today. Then you have your iconic switch ads, your mac vs pc ads, and the ever prominent ipod ads.
Agreed. Apple is one of the best marketing companies out there today.

That super bowl ad is mighty famous and maybe it influenced super bowl ads to come, but the Macintosh only managed niche market status in spite of it. So, aside from being a cool looking ad, how was that an example of successful marketing?
Yeah, i agree with Drew
