Rumors unleashed: Wireless iTunes Store to debut Wednesday?
Wild rumoring is of course inevitable with an Apple event on the horizon, and MacDailyNews is doing its part with this latest wireless iTunes doozy. Apparently alongside the oft-rumored wireless iPods, Wednesday will also bring "wireless iTunes Store sales" to the iPhone and said iPods. MacDaily's source also claims that the iPods will indeed be Mac OS X-based, and that we should "Prepare to be stunned [with] iPod's new capabilities." Of course, a wireless iPod is perfectly plausible, and a wireless iTunes store seems like something Apple's going to have to break down and build sooner or later, but there's really no telling that the cited source has any inside line on such a thing, so we're going to remain firmly skeptical on this one until we get a few hard facts -- like a wireless iTunes Store, for instance.

It could include the release of the Beatles library since the artwork is directly after the artwork for the Beastie Boys.
...just another thought.
The cover art is, unfortunately, not in alphabetical order :-(
Nice thinking. That's probably Apple's way of telling us without telling us; it really makes sense tho.
Also, I really don't want to download songs [God forbid videos] over EDGE.
According to the text of The Beatles' final press release in 1970:
"When the spinning stops — that'll be the time to worry, not before. Until then, the Beatles are alive and well and the beat goes on, the beat goes on."
Trizz, you might be on to something here...
Jobs will probably claim he put out the first wireless DAP as well, if this rumor is true.
I don't understand why Microsoft couldn't make ZUNE more like the Sansa Connect. Or even better - have a wireless purchasing ability.
Well, first they need to sell a Zune.
^^^ Ha HA!
Actually it is in Alphabetical order but in relation to album title no artist...
Keane - Under the iron sea, Jack Johnson - Under the maple tree.
I need a new iPod anyway so i'll buy whatever they are releasing !
Keane - Under The Iron Sea
Flaming Lips - Yoshi Battles The Pink Robots
Mika - Life In Cartoon Motion
Don't know about your alphabet, but mine doesnt go U-Y-L ;-)
That Jack Johnson album is actually "In Between Dreams".

How fast is EDGE? Would a 5-6meg song not take a while to download (like 10 minutes)?
It'd take about 4 minutes for a 6MB song. (Assuming 200kbps)
According to http://iphonenetworktest.com the average edge speed is 210kbps
In your dreams. I've never gotten consistent EDGE from Cingular's network at that speed. Realistically it will be something like half of that speed during the day. At night, I've noticed that downloads are faster and can touch 180Kbps.
I hope its not touch screen based.. we have something called winter up here in Canada.
eh?
Oh mann.
I distinctly remember reading in Popular Science about gloves designed to work with iPods, and presumably the iPhone's touchscreen.
I think they used very thin silver or something to that effect,
but I read this a while ago.
Still,
some Googling might do it for you. :)
!
I found it.

Wireless ITMS is something everybody's waiting for ages. Now that Nokia launched its Ovi store, the field has been opened.
**ATTENTION**
The all-new "iPod Touch" MAC OSX platform, 3.5" Widescreen in 80GB and 120GB flavors b, g, and n WIFI capabilities, portrait and landscape accelerometer for viewing your favorite movies, integrated iTunes store, bluetooth stereo headphones (optional headphone available) starting at $499.
$499 for a iPhone without the phone? Highly doubt that. More like starting at $299.
This "iPhone without a phone" adds a few gigs in (on the order of 76GB for $500 and apparently 112GB on the $600? model)
@CMC
1. Uh, What? do you remember when the iPod Photo debued? $499. Starting price.
2. An iPhone minus 2 year contract with AT&T, minus monthy charges, plus say about 100 gigs or so eqauls kick ass.
The real cost for an iPhone is, at a very minimum (refurbished 4 GB model with 2 years contract at the minimum $60 per month and never going over the monthly limit on talk minutes, nor using it overseas) is $1839, not counting taxes on the phone and those bogus extra fees carriers tack on monthly. Is there an activation fee as well? So, $499 for a new iPod that is an iPhone without the phone (but with wifi browsing and such) is a relative bargain.
Apple we need an 160 gb hdd wifi-iPod that does everything including gps, can you deliver?
I hope it is touch screen based even though I live in Canada. Because using a click wheeel through gloves isn't exactly a piece of cake either. However if it is wireless I am assuming that it would be through wifi and not hdsp or wimax or wahtever.
umm...you think using a touch screen with gloves on will be EASIER than using a click wheel with gloves on?
No but either way you really have to take off your gloves so it doesn't make to much of a difference and I'm willing to make that trade off for increased screen real estate.

I sure hope they're right about WiFi iPods. I'm ready to buy the wide-screen iPod Touch/WiFi on the spot. $499, no problem.
Knowing my luck, the wireless iTunes connection will probably only work with iPhones.
Of course this whole article might have been started by somebody blowing smoke out of his/her butt.
How do you know for certain that the latest iPod won't be able put CoverFlow in alphabetical order? Well, I hope it can for your sake. I don't really care about that feature. I'll settle for a type-in search feature. However, I really just want to watch videos in wide-screen glory.
I'm really psyched up for the wide-screen version, but WiFi is the cherry-on-top.
If it is wifi would we be able to play through airtunes? This is essential!
We'll pass your demands onto Steve, and get right on that.....
I'm hoping this doesn't go flash based a la the iPhone. However, perhaps we'll see both an HD and a solid-state variant emerge next week.
Sounds like I might be getting a new iPod for Christmas!
It's not possible to make a full-sized iPod in comparable capacities to what's out there today in any affordable way using only flash storage. Prices on flash storage are still too high.
No, but they could simply keep the existing design as the lone hard drive model for those that need high capacity, and have the new iPods be flash based only. Not that I'd want them to do that, mind you.
I just want it to mow my lawn...that's it, just mow my lawn... well, and play music...
and doom
Now you're talking! Steve Jobs owes us like $50 billion now!
I sure hope if the wireless thing is true for the ipod and iPhone that they add the ability to copy music OFF of the iPod and iPhone so you can back it up to a PC/Mac.
I am certain that everything will sync back to iTunes on your computer, as it does now. This would deal a nice blow to the greedy US carriers which want you to pay twice for music on your computer *and* phone, twice. :)
if its that expensive why not just buy an iphone. your trading the phone capabilities for a hard drive.
what bout gaming
that sounds pretty stunning to me
not games like pacman but real games
games on an ipod!!!!!!! w0w
im in over my head
iPod games are teh sux
People are willing to spring 500$ for something that plays music with a widescreen and wifi, but not for PS3... sony needs to figure out how to advertise...
You can't really fit a PS3 in your pocket... different markets here. Although I agree :P
Obviously, sony's marketing sucks. From a strictly marketing stand point Apple is amazing. Start off with their debut superbowl ad which made superbowl advertising what it is today. Then you have your iconic switch ads, your mac vs pc ads, and the ever prominent ipod ads.
Agreed. Apple is one of the best marketing companies out there today.

That super bowl ad is mighty famous and maybe it influenced super bowl ads to come, but the Macintosh only managed niche market status in spite of it. So, aside from being a cool looking ad, how was that an example of successful marketing?
Yeah, i agree with Drew

Dude, if i could just sync my iPhone via wifi or BT, that would be just fine with me...
What are people going to download their songs on? EDGE? Ha Ha. Okay so you can stay at home and do on your Wi-Fi, but then what's the point?
EDGE? No. Wi-Fi.
You know the hot spots and the open networks that are everywhere these days. Unless you live in a vllage, of course.
I live in NYC for your information, and guess what? People have gotten wise to encrypting their networks.
It used to be that you could get Wi-Fi almost anywhere in NYC, but now you can't find an unencrypted network anywhere.
sr1329: not to mention that it is now illegal for you to just hop on someone's wifi network without their permission.
It's an iPod and an Internet Communicator. No Phone.
Hurrah!!!!
If they release this bad boy, Apple has definitely got a winner on its hand!
apple better have a touch ipod or SOMETHING other than just a small update, ipods are looking less and less attractive each day as more mp3 players like the new zen hit shelves. I'm sure they have soemthing up heir sleeve and it's no problem though, it really shouldn't be an issue to port the mac osx ipone build , scalled down in features to run a 200mhz strong arm or something.
hopefully if they DO do that it will still have the keyboard etc, or if not a hacker will simply take it from the ipone -> ipod. I'd love a pocketc repalcement, I really hate my dell axim now, it's just too 'dated' comparatively.
well if there gonna put wifi in it, then throw in a webbrowser and il buy it
I would love to see APPLE say alot about there next gen. iPODs soon , and hope they do bring out a few new options that people never thought of or thought then needed .
I also think the iPOD is the new PDA of are times ( at the least the new PDA for MAC's ) . With that said there should be a few things added to make it more of an on the go device and fun to have .
The 6th Gen. iPod should be that device that you take everywhere with you . The device that takes the place of a few other devices that your always carrying around that you really don't have the room for anymore .
1. CAMERA / CAMCORDER Devices - Add in a camera that can do more then Pictures , maybe take video footage on the go as well , with a good zoom to it . Having fun at the bar or club and want to take some pictures of your friends being drunk or video of some guy that is being stupid , you have your iPod to do just that .
2. WIDESCREEN / TOUCH SCREEN - Needed for those that are always buying TV Series or movies for there iPods , but have to really look to see what they are watching . Touch screen for the fact that APPLE doesn't want a ZUNE on there hands . LOL Sorry but it have a widescreen and wheel and look at it .
3. BLUE TOOTH / WIFI - With the world going wireless and building wireless devices everyday they need to add in these both . Bluetooth for your headsets and other bluetooth devices that you might own , and WiFi for those that want to use there iPod Wireless for transferring data , or other cool things they might add later .
They should also add in a few fun things on the iPod that they could add in there OSX system , if the rumors are true about the OSX being added in .
1. Video and Picture editing ( If they add in a camera or camcorder function) ....
2. Widgets that you can take on the go , stuff that doesn't use the WiFi .
3. Safari , for those that are always around a hotspot area that they could connect to ...
There STORAGE should be higher then 30 and 80GBs , Maybe more like 100GB for 299.99 and 160GB for 399.99 , I also feel that if Apple does build this new iPod with WiFi and do build a Wireless iTunes store . They should take full advantage of this with building an iTunes box , or something they could place in to stores all over the world .
Say your walking around in the mall and you want to DOWNLOAD a song , but the mall doesn't support WiFi . Apple could add there own iTunes store inside the malls , or shopping area where you walk to or sit by and with your iPod turned on you could see what itunes might have at the moment or what's new that is out for you to buy right there .
"Prepare to be stunned [with] iPod's new capabilities."
From the looks of the photo, that won't include stereo bluetooth - what a luddite that Jobs, lol!
Has anyone else noticed that if you go to the apple store and choose to browse an iPod, the page is all whack?
No, it's just you.
I wonder if Steve Jobs unleashes "... one more thing" that has to do with the iPhone, like the first real software update or custom ringtones on iTunes.
"Oooh, discipline! Kinky!"
But there is one more thing...
"Bill Gates runs like a girl" now available for download. Only in iTunes.
wifi ipods? i seriously doubt it... that would totally cut into their iPhone sales.
One thing that will suck is the fact that if Apple does indeed put Wi-Fi into their new iPod, is that they probably will not include a web browser. Even though a machine like the DS is capable of rendering web pages (Slow and with a RAM expansion pack though), an iPod would be able to do it. Also, nobody mentioned anything about the FCC. This device would have to receive approval from the FCC before reaching store shelves or online. That would hinder any possibility of getting the device soon. (At least another 2-4 weeks) Look at the new Bluetooth Apple Keyboard announced August 7th. It's still not shipping.
If they have the technology to do it, then they will.
there is another rumors going around about the ringtones
www.techztalk.com
I'd love to see WiFi functionality that allows the new iPod to control iTunes playback via an Airport Express & Airtunes (kinda like the Griffin AirClick, but with a screen so you can actually see what you are doing!)
It would also be great if you could stream music stored on the new iPod directly to a home stereo using the Airport Express\Airtunes combination.
One thing that gives me the smallest glimmer of hope is that Apple dropped the price of the AirPort Express a few months ago and haven't released a new version (with 802.11n support) to match the new Airport Extreme.
In other words, I want a new iPod that is a Sonos killer. I want to use it like the Sonos handheld controller to stream content stored on the iPod direct to my stereo over Airtunes, and\or control iTunes on my computer remotely (which also streams to my home stereo using Airtunes & Airport Express devices).
Pretty please?
None of you have guessed it yet...I guess you'll just have to wait until the 5th.
This explains the iPhone feature "download purchased music" in itunes.
This explains the "download purchased music" iphone feature when it's docked in itunes.
Hey... I found this blog and its talking about the new ipods and that they're going to have stereo headsets like theiphone. Like with the button that advances songs and such. Anyone know if its legit?
