The MD300: the world's most boring PMP
Looking for a PMP that does everything you expect, and absolutely, positively nothing you don't? Well in that case, get ready to fall madly in love with the hyper-familiar Shenzhen Liuniu Technology MD300. In its defense, it does offer a pretty high-res screen (clocking in at the awkward 960 x 240), which should make viewing the plethora of video formats (MPEG1, MPEG2, DivX, XviD, AVI, MPG) a pure joy. The player further breaks "convention" by offering no SD or MiniSD slot, rather, it relies on a CF or 1-inch micro hard drive for storage -- making this a bigger pain than it should be. The player also does the standard MP3s and WMA files, of course, plus line-in recording (audio and video, apparently), as well as e-book support. No word yet on price or availability.

Obviously its not 960x240. It's 320x240. For some reason, they're listing the red, green, and blue subpixels as individual pixels.
Anyway, if it actually does line-in video recording, (unlikely) that alone would be something unexpected and interesting.
what kind of technology use that you cant see the images in the screen in the refections... dracula will buy it for shure.
Any word on if it needs a stupid 3rd party app or is UMS?
It will be a cold day in hell before i buy a mp3 player which i need to install software for.
So just because its not Apple, its boring? Also, CF is a pain? Have you seen the prices and capacities of CF compared to SD, or god forbid, MicroSD?
Ah... out come the compactflash fanboiz and girlz
Woah, why is CF "a pain"?
Last I checked, it is the easiest format to get an adaptor to, since its shape fits any other popular flash memory format within. (Invest in microsd and you're good to go!).
CF is also a good format in numerous ways, not least of which being the physical shape, which makes for greater durability (no directly exposed metal) and less chance of them being lost under one's finger nails.
Now, if that was Sony Memory Stick Pro-HG 2 Duo with MagicGate, it would be a different story.
whee!
If it had an Apple logo they would have called it "The freshest PMP on the market!"
if it had an apple logo on it I think apple would so the smart thing and kick its own ass. Either that or jonny ive would be fired on the spot.
I fell asleep just scrolling past this one, yawn.
Is it me or is this pretty much the only pmp in the entire world that uses swapable compact flash cards as a means of storage?
Have you seen how cheap 8gb cards are? Buy 3, keep a couple in your wallet, 24gbs.
3.5inch screen that covers almost the whole of the front of the player, line in and excellent video codec support.
I can actually think of quite a few "boringer" pmps in the market.
This cannot compete with the iphone.
this cannot compete with nokia's 'fresh' Earl Parel inspired microPMP due to come out this autumn in Japan. I can't wait! - - especially for the long awaited feature of being able to listen in to mobilephone calls in the general vicinity...maaaan, I'm going to have a ball listening to 100's of different girls in harajuku all talking to thier 'friends' about the 'new' Mark Newson bag.
The iPhone cannot compete with my PSP + phone.
"The MD300: the world's most boring PMP" -- So why waste your and my time reporting this????
It's somewhat equivalent to the anit-DIGG.... cluttering my life with insignificant products or events!
I've had this small PMP since march 2006! Bought it in Beijing and love it. It does not record video and the only thing I miss is support for subtitles. It has TV-out so I get to watch my movies on the big screen instead of the monitor. Weighs only a 1/4 pound so ideal for travels.
