Joystiq answers questions about Sony's slimmer PSP
Those patiently awaiting the slimmer PSP, codenamed PSP-2000, will probably enjoy (or be exceedingly envious) of Joystiq's hands-on with the forthcoming device, but regardless of what emotions it evokes, we're givin' it to ya straight. Hordes of readers submitted questions about the impending PSP, and nothing provides the answers like a good bit of time handling the actual unit in question. So go on, tag the read link to catch an early glimpse of the PSP Lite, and who knows, maybe one or two of your own burning questions will be addressed, too.

They could've done a whole lot more to improve the psp other then just slimming it down.

Well, according to the "Cult of Mac" blog, the iPhone is soon going to crush the PSP into obsolescence anyway.
Sometimes fanboys make you laugh, sometimes they just make you despair for the future of mankind.
you make any more comments like that and I'm going to need a few stiff drinks.
iphone crushing the psp? Isnt that like saying my house is better than my car? Dont they fill two completely separate functions?
"Cult of Mac" reckons the iPhone will get better games and therefore render the PSP as a novelty.
Hilarious, but true.
Shhh.
Don't spoil it for him.
PSP-2000, the 90's are calling. second analog stick? 3.4 OEA? more than a few minutes battery life?
The lack of exclusive (non-port) games in America is what eventually killed the PSP here. I imagine that, like the only exclusive games that come out (in Japan), the new slim PSP's will only sell in Japan aswell. Oh well, aslong as they keep the Japanese games coming, I'll be happy
Well I was thinking of buying one (I don't have a PSP now), but not that I see that they didn't improve web-browsing I don't think I'm going to get it.
It sounds interesting, but this new PSP-Slim(Lite) is now available in Hong Kong Store! Every one can buy one, and this is an official release.
Although, I don't know why Hong Kong got this new baby before US and even JP!!!
I'm living in Hong Kong.

I was thinking of getting one and now I'm gonna wait till the slimmer version is out here in Canada before making the final decision. Having said that, that's an absolutely pathetic upgrade, in fact, the word upgrade shouldn't even be applied to this at all. More memory doesn't seem to do much to improve performance and the few millimeters off the width isn't exactly revolutionary. It's clear that Sony did this just to have a reason to talk about it again and hope for a bump in sales. But this will end up biting them in the ass as people once again gets disappointed with them. They should've took their time and released a true 2nd generation PSP with proper upgrades.
It doesn't seem like that great of an upgrade to the normal psp, the tv output is nice but that's been done. You're better off buying an original, far more hackable.
well if any modders step up to the plate maybe they cant get something out of this lackluster machine?
i'm not sure if there are any good games for the psp, then again, the last portable gaming system that i ever eyed was a game gear. and we all know how long ago those were around. but if i were ever to get one, id have to say it'd just to be used in connection w/ the ps3. the location free tv capabilities and the ability to stream stuff to music, pics and crap to the psp from anywhere is kinda cool. especially if sony ever brings a dvr tuner to the ps3 in the US...
Here it is.....

That's ridiculous. Maybe they should, again, examine the claim that cell phones may cause brain damage as this guy certainly not all there.
How could you expect a decent library of games from a hand held that has no control interface other than a touch screen. Even if they added motion sensing, are they going to put out 100 variations of Sifting for Gold HD? You acn't get too crazy with motion controls when you need to focus on the screen attached to the controller.
one thing he didn't think of is that Nintendo would have to license the games to Apple for them to be on the iPhone, and Nintendo wouldn't do that if there was even the slightest possibility that it would end up hurting them.
I have a DS, Wii, Gamecube, and PS2.
Don't believe anything you read or hear and only half of what you see.
BTW
Linking the article is like yelling.
It does not make your argument any more valid, only more annoying.
jimmyfinch,
Eh? I am merely linking to what someone else has said rather than make an unsubstantiated claim.
I don't need the self-appointed smug blog police like you to tell me what to do.
What's wrong with you?...jeez.
PSP a failure?
I missed that....
The PSP certainly has good games. This year alone, we've seen Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops, Crush, and the latest good one Brave Story. Next month, Final Fantasy Tactics: The Lion Wars comes out. And don't forget the 800 lb gorilla--God of War Chains of Olympus. If that's not enough exclusive content for you, I don't know what is.
After reading: the review looks like theres not much improved. Especially when now the volume is lower than the PSP-1000. Sony should of done better.
Why don't they ha
Definitely a positive move in the right direction but I am still a bit underwhelmed by the update. Sony did not add dual analog sticks (something the PSP community has been begging for) and no built in hard drive. The good thing though is that the latest update which includes the TV out immediately made UMDs worth something. I could only take watching movies on the small PSP screen before my eyeballs transformed into twin flaming orbs. I could see the new PSP acting as a portable DVD player. Maybe your travelling and want to show friends a cool movie. Just hook up the PSP TV out and your on your way.
The game library is impressive though. I guess I will hold out for the PSP 3. Maybe it will have touch screen controls or something snazzy like that...
