Jam Sessions Performance Bundle includes mini-amp for your DS
If the DS hasn't managed to catch you in its deathly, irresistible, touch-sensitive grasp by now, Jam Sessions just might be the title that pulls it off. The "game" is basically a guitar simulator, and while you can play along with built-in songs if you so choose, the real power of Jam Sessions is in the improvisational aspects: you can pretty much play thing the like a guitar, and that's where Ubisoft's Performance Bundle comes in. You can pick up one of these First Act amp / Jam Sessions bundles in November (the game itself hits this month) and really crank the tunes -- and finally annoy your neighbors in a way you've never quite managed with Guitar Hero.[Via DS Fanboy]

I'm pretty excited for this game. The amp bundle is pretty useless though. You can just plug the DS into any stereo system with a line in, or any pair of iPod speakers.

That's why Nintendo DS is so awesome.

Bless it.

Don't get too pumped.
You can expect to line out from your DS to this "amplifier", which is just an external speaker that's probably battery powered and can't push more than 5 watts. It will probably sound no better than your average clock radio.
Save yourself the money and get a 1/8" to RCA and run your DS to any decent stereo system or just use the 1/8" jack that comes with any standard 2.1 PC speaker system. This should gain you some decent bottom end.
Better yet, get yourself a Gibson Les Paul and a Marshall stack.

I agree with the last part... just maybe something cheaper. For the price of a DS and this mini-amp you can pick up a decent guitar / amp combo.

Why does everyone insist on marshall stacks? I'm so sick of em.

I want to run this baby through my 100 watt Mesa Boogie :)

In my experience, running these kinds of lines/signals through tube amps just sounds terrible. Since the guitar has already been 'amplified' by the DS, it will sound terrible through a guitar tube amp. Running through a solid state amp on the other hand may be fine. I know from experience - I own a mesa boogie amp myself (a modest f-50).

hang on, why not just like have a real guitar?
why do you have to have something that simulates something that already exists? thats why guitar heros great, its not actually a guitar... just makes you feel like a rockstar

I [like] have 2 real guitars and I still want to [like] have this.
I don't [like] have "Guitar Hero" because I can already play Hanger 18 with my [like] real guitar.
With Jam Sessions I can [like] make music not just pretend by pressing 5 buttons and [like] have no real control.
