Shots of HP's upcoming iPAQs leaked?
We've already heard plenty about this pair, the new 600 and 900 iPAQ series, but the folks over at MoDaCo look to have uncovered the first, albeit sketchy, pictures of the devices. Labeled the iPAQ 614c and 914c, the two devices line up pretty nicely with the rumors, with the 614c rocking a 2.8-inch QVGA screen in a candybar form factor with Windows Mobile 6 Professional, HSDPA, WiFi and a touch wheel, and even tacking on GPS and a 3 megapixel camera to the already juicy list. The 914c rotates the screen and goes QWERTY, with only 2.5-inches due to the orientation, but the same QVGA resolution and the rest of the 614c's specs. If these facts are legit, HP could be fighting back into the smartphone fray in a pretty big way

Looks like every other Windows mobile platform out. Good Job HP not doing anything special.......as always.

I guess I missed the part about them "fighting back in a big way"? This would have been big back in 2005, but in the current market these phones just make me yawn. The one on the right looks like an OEM'd Ubiquio 503.
snife @ Sep 3rd 2007 10:57AM
the touch wheel implementation on the 600 looks interesting

Looks like theunwired.net found out more: http://www.theunwired.net/?item=rumor-are-the-new-hp-smartphones-based-on-okwap-and-manufactured-by-inventec
Seems to be the OKWAP S868.

the previous model looks way better.

unsuprising and uninspiring. remember when ipaqs were actually good? bring back compaq.
wako @ Sep 3rd 2007 11:48AM
Ahh! So thats what a Motorola Q9 and a TMo Dash smashed together looks like
(referring to the one on the right)
With all those features on it, 3G, WiFi, GPS, and a camera, I would consider it :)

I like the stick version on the left.
I really miss having physical keys on my phone. (HTC Mogul owner)

I like the retro look of them. Reminds me of old calculators I used to play with.

I waited a loooong time for HP to bring out their last contender, the hw6900. First it was leading edge, then it was par, by the time it was released it was badly out of date compared to other models. Then again, HP is mainly selling to the corporate crowd. The camera will likely be 3mpix of dim,low contrast out of focus pixels (once it starts up, if the battery hasn't died), it'll weigh a ton and the battery will last an hour.

I've actually worked on some of HPs smart phones this past year. The one I've worked on didn't have a touch wheel. and it really didn't inspire. It had no touchscreen and was just about the size of a regular cell phone.

These are pretty good. They are rebranded OKWAP devices, so should come to the market rather rapidly. They have 128 MB RAM, 256 MB ROM, microSD expansion, GPS and FM radios. They have all the latest technology in a reasonable sized package. I would certainly consider them.

you forgot to mention how hideously ugly they are.
Dave @ Sep 3rd 2007 2:03PM
wow the one on the right is a dash with 3g/gps integrated... and a "dash" of ugly and boring.
bushido @ Sep 3rd 2007 2:33PM
Hmmm. The buttons look like that of Centro.
Zal @ Sep 3rd 2007 3:55PM
It's amazing how few cell phones offer the "trifecta" of 3G (HSDPA in this case), WiFi, and a GPS. If these phones sport the trifecta as reported, then I think they are far from boring or ordinary.
yoyodude64 @ Sep 3rd 2007 4:46PM
the ipaq's used to be amazing. bak with the 1945 and the 2215 (my favorite pda out there ever), it looked like they were gonna dominae the market. then they changed the whole look of the ipaq line. and hp just can't seem to make a good looking smartphone. the specs rnt bad but who would want to be seen with one of these? jeez
Iz @ Sep 3rd 2007 10:29PM
The one on the right looks exactly like an Asus M530.
D. A. @ Sep 3rd 2007 11:16PM
Would HP buying HTC be an option to fight back in this market?? I don't think they can even compete with HTC anymore.
Paul @ Sep 4th 2007 12:20AM
Not bad HP, this has perked my interest after the ill-fated HP Messenger
Sonny @ Sep 4th 2007 2:39AM
I've seen and played with these phones in the flesh. They look good but the "click wheel" thingie is a lil too unsensitive. Not as easy to use as is in the iPod.
Glacher @ Sep 4th 2007 2:59AM
I will not be getting this as i am still looking for mobile 6 upgrade to the HW6915 next smartphone i get will be HTC
