Sidekick LX "Shuriken" in the wild?
Is it just us, or does this thing look... well, not that great? This here is allegedly a shot of the upcoming Shuriken / Sidekick LX / Sidekick 4 -- Sharp's next-gen Hiptop alongside Motorola's Sidekick Slide -- doing its thing in the wild. Sadly, the case looks like cheap black plastic, the keyboard looks bizzare, and the chrome speaker looks out of place, though we suppose those bits could all be little pieces of preproduction indiscretion. Fortunately, the rumored 3-inch widescreen display should go a long way toward making up for any lingering ugliness when it launches in the not-too-distant future, but the Slide's looking a little better now, ain't it?

are you serious?!?! who ever's job it is to be final approval of these designs got pummelled by a fugly log. The past like 3-4 designs ive seen released as part of the sidekick line are hideous.

The keyboard looks sidekick II-ish to me.
And so does the body. I have a SK3 right now.
I cannot wait for this to come out.

There's a lot I like about the sidekick line. The sidekick phones have always been ugly, but they really make up for it in other areas. The well designed, intuitive OS is one of the most pleasant I've used. It's simple for any user to pick up yet filled with features and keyboard shortcuts that make it more intuitive the more you use it. It may be closed platform, but it has a lot of features smartphones have without the hassle of windows mobile. The flip design is somewhat of a gimmick but allows you to open the phone with one finger. They keyboard, at least in the sidekick 3 and the SKiD, is one of the best I've used. It has a solid feel and good spacing. The browser, while certainly not the best, is sufficient. The AIM and MSN integration is excellent as is the email client. The data plan is unmatched with unlimited texting and data, as well as your own email address for the phone for only $20 a month. Other phone plans often need $40-50 for data with an additional $20 for texting. There's only one real complaint I've ever had when it comes to sidekicks, and that is the crappy 240 x 160 screen. It's dim, small, and blurry and thus unfit for most of what you would do with a sidekick. If this sidekick has replaced the screen with something decent, I'll be one of the first to upgrade.

sidekicks are for teenagers and college studens. if you want a real phone with great email and text msg, the blackberry is the way to go all the way.

You mean Paris or the phone?
Ryan Pierce @ Sep 4th 2007 2:34AM
do they come in a package deal?
NobleArc @ Sep 3rd 2007 11:29PM
Holy hell, I thought that was a picture of a fax machine until I read the story.
bombastinator @ Sep 4th 2007 1:28AM
Is there such a thing as a high quality PIM (integrated calander/to do list/memo software) such as Datebk5 or Agendus for the sidekick?
My treo 650 just died and I need a good replacement solution in the near future. The PIM and reasonable email capacity, and basic expense accounting software are all I really need, but the PIM has to be good.
Tony @ Sep 4th 2007 10:58AM
So disappointing. Definitely hope this isn't the actual next Sidekick 4. The specs are disappointing as well, and that includes the SK Slide too. Hopefully, the next SK will come out next year and will be a lot better.
Ty @ Sep 4th 2007 12:03PM
Wow, in my opinion this design has become too cumbersome to be released this year. These are akin to the old two way pagers to me.
brett @ Sep 4th 2007 11:42PM
ive always wanted a sidekick they look cool
karen @ Sep 22nd 2007 2:54PM
