Toshiba's DPF7XSE seven-inch digiframe plays nice with DivX
Not satisfied with just unleashing a pair of HD DVD players for the European crowd, Toshiba has now announced a forthcoming digital photo frame for the same set that does a whole lot more than shuffle through old photo albums. The DPF7XSE boasts a seven-inch 800 x 480 resolution panel, dual one-watt stereo speakers, SD / MMC / CF / Memory Stick support, USB 2.0 connectivity, and 256MB of built-in storage space. Most notable, however, is the supported format list, which includes JPEG, MP3, WMA, MPEG4, and DivX. Currently, Tosh hasn't released details surrounding a price for the fall-bound frame, but users picking this one will reportedly find an infrared remote and USB cable bundled in.

Yikes - what's with attaching the screen to half a ton of aluminium? An otherwise nice tidy screen suddenly becomes big heavy lump. No mention of a built in battery either, which if it doesn't have one removes one important use for these things straight away - as a pass-around photo display unit.

At this rate isn't better to make tv lcd that acts also as a digital photo frame ?

And a hefty price tag to go with no doubt. I'm actually looking forward to digital picture frames becoming inexpensive so I can hang them all over my house (or more likely give them to the Grandparents so that I have an easy out for Xmas presents forever after).

Very cool but I think these devices would sell a heck of a lot more if they were Wi-Fi enabled with no proprietary software. Simply a folder you could browse to on the network to drop images/videos. Anything in that folder would show on the screen. Until that time, I'll keep printing and framing.

DivX..WOW. Toshiba can put it on a frame and the others can't do it on a PMP!!

Yeah, looks like some sort of... low-fat version of Ambilight.
