Casio's Exilim EX-Z8 shooter loosed somewhere in the world
We'll have to take their word for it, but LetsGoDigital assures us that Casio has a new Exilim Zoom-series shooter, the EX-Z8. Its 8.1 megapixels are helped along by the Exilim Engine 2.0 processing and anti-shake DSP. Rounding things out are a 2.6-inch LCD, 3x zoom, face-detection tech, and a YouTube-mode for capturing H.264 compressed video in formats ideal for sharing. Pretty standard stuff these days in the land of compact shooters.

Good that Casio's cameras now have a "YouTube mode" with the optimum size, quality and other settings for uploading H.264 to YouTube. But YouTube's web site still recommends the Divx/Xvid format for some strange reason and no mention of H.264...

Just love the Exilim series. There is absolutly nothing superflous about the design; simple is beautiful.

Dutch gadgetblog Bright already had a hands-on with this camera in one of their unboxing parties.

(in dutch of course)
There it's called the '880' with YouTube functionality, but my guess is, these are the same camera's. I mean, how many 8.1MP Exilim YouTube shooters will there be?

I love this camera. Unfortunately I already had the model before this one and the lense was designed with such extremely tiny parts that it got bumped twice and that was enough for it to stop opening and closing. My exilim is now no longer in service. I'm not hard on stuff.. this is just a very fragile camera. The good I have to say about it is that it was my favorite camera I ever owned. It's fast, it's high quality, and the video quality is better than any other low-fi digital camera I've ever bought. It even records the audio at cd quality while you're capturing video. I'm not impressed at all with h.264.. I still recommend xvid. I have compressed with both and xvid still comes out smaller, more universal, and better quality... with more compression options. Perhaps that's why YouTube still recommends divx/xvid?

Can I use a USB cable to charge these cameras? My digital camera uses 2 AA batteries which is great, I dont' need to carry the charger around... would like to replace with a camera that supports USB charging...
