We'd heard it was coming Monday, but HP apparently decided to wait until today (because nothing else was going on, obviously) to launch its Blackbird 002 gaming rig. While HP still hasn't told us exactly what you'll be getting for that $2500 - $7100 price tag, whatever chips you order will be liquid-cooled, fully overclockable via a completely open BIOS, and be easy to get at via the tool-less chassis. Check the gallery for some more beauty shots.
For people who are wondering. THIS here was the combined effort of Voodoo/HP.
And for the writers here, there is a huge Voodoo/HP event going on this evening. It has been planned for some time (I would have to look at my emails for exact dates when I got invited), but the fact it happened on the Apple iPod announcement was just a coincidence.
Wow what a nice over priced gaming rig... And look it comes with free smudge and dust magnets too... Those Ribs will be a pain to clean and all the clear purspex fan are going to look nasty after a month of running...
Is it worth it? No... Are you still better off building your own rig? Yes.
Nice design though shame it wasnt thought through.
Sure, if you know what you're doing, you can make a cheaper rig but what about those who don't want to? Also, they won't sell this case alone and if you bothered to read the review, the case is extremely user friendly and you can easily upgrade any of the parts yourself. The difference in price between your own built rig vs this is, well, all the work is done for you and all the testing too; you get the tech support; HP customized BIOS (which is supposedly better than the standard); and specially designed case (if they did sell the case alone, I'd bet it would be at least $250 similar to the CM832). Whether or not you like the design is personal preference.
The blackbird is very cool technology for the enthusiast. Was able to see a demonstration. Here's a cool video and an audio podcast I found regarding the launch that you might be interested in...

Looks amazing, but what's with the pedestal? All that does is keep you from putting it on its side.
Looks like it's to keep it suspended to vent the hard drives and isolate them from the rest of the components.
Nice, only $7000 to play Solitaire.
nice!
Yes the case design is VERY nice. Although i don't give a crap about the hardware inside, i just want the case...sold seperatly?
I feel like I need to have sex with it. WEIRD!!
I suppose we're both weird then...I already hit the moon.
Looks nice....but HP?

Wow, we already heard you say this nonsense on the other Blackbird post, jackass.
Definitely. Nice Design.
I like the design ...I wonder if HP could just sell the empty case?
wow that case is amazing but all of the components dont add up to the price tag. i am sure of that.
WOW! And when they work those kinks out of Vista (2-4 years), this machine should scream!
for $7500, it better be able to give me fellatio.
I wonder if it can play DOOM?
for that amount of money, it better play my damn doom
man, I just want the case
it's too damn sexy...
the price tag is ridiculous though
Anyone else notice the ASUS logo on the mobo? Guess HP was serious about using off-the-shelf components.
All recent HP models use Asus, including the HP media center PC I bought 6 months ago..
Oh my freaking god, it's gorgeous. It might just be the most attractive computer ever. Seriously.
sure it's purdy, but does it swallow? I'd bet Oblivion would bring it to it's knees.
It looks like an air-conditioner.
