Quickly hipsters, look this way! We know you're staring down your credit card this very moment to see if you can manage to be rocking 3rd gen
iPod nano on the L train by next week, but were you aware that a company named "Microsoft" makes a product with similar music-playing capabilities? Sure, it won't work with your Mac, but the
Zune makes up for all that by rocking this new look torn straight from the pages of NYLON magazine. But you'll have to act fast, because they're only selling 1000 of these custom Zunes at Urban Outfitter stores. The first ones will be at NYLON's Fashion Week party on September 6th in Soho, and the rest will be available later this month across the country.

Good God man! Why make such a lame a$$ product release announcement on the day Apple owns the news on the interwebs? Can M$ do anything right?
Both people who are going to buy one of these are just itching for the pre-order announcements!
Smuv @ Sep 5th 2007 8:16PM
hola
copyguy @ Sep 5th 2007 8:18PM
Wow, I bet dozens of 13 year-old girls will be frantic to get one.
Fatass of Kickassness @ Sep 5th 2007 11:17PM
They're too busy marveling at the Apple Keynote. After all, you've just described the core iPod audience.
Gadget Chick @ Sep 5th 2007 8:20PM
no special edition in the world could wipe off the shit apple just rained on the zune
unkone @ Sep 5th 2007 9:58PM
I just laughed out loud to this.. really
desmond @ Sep 5th 2007 8:22PM
i am not an apple fan boy, and it doesnt take one to say "Good God!" to this LIMITED EDITION ... seriously!?
john @ Sep 5th 2007 8:27PM
What's a zune? Who cares! New IPODS!!!!!!
Zzephyr @ Sep 5th 2007 8:27PM
Too funny! Looks like another sales and market strategist will be shown the front door and given the proverbial boot at Microsoft tomorrow morning.
ScOObyDoo @ Sep 5th 2007 8:37PM
No way.
If Microsoft really did look at their marketing "efforts" they wouldn't be releasing the 15th "special edition" Zune. Whoever is behind this turd is probably the one that said white Zune's would sell. They just didn't expect them to sell on Woot instead of a real retailer.
Microsoft has probably ONE more chance to make a killer mp3 player but I doubt they have it in them.
Zeus the God @ Sep 6th 2007 11:37PM
Sc00by, I can guarantee you've never touched one. Much higher quality than iPod, solid controls, and cheaper, too.
Randall Bennett @ Sep 5th 2007 8:31PM
Wow, I would be excited about this, but it'd be strictly for ironic purposes. I guess Microsoft knows how to market to the hipster crowd, since only the most committed iron-eers would actually rock the Zune.
These will look great with my pink fingerless gloves.
Robert @ Sep 5th 2007 8:37PM
what is a zune is it like a clone of the last gen iPod?
m16 @ Sep 5th 2007 9:23PM
now if they could just make it sound good. :/
Nora @ Sep 5th 2007 10:34PM
Zunes do sound good. Depends more on your headphones than the unit. Just saying
Steve @ Sep 5th 2007 9:31PM
"What is a Zune?," like "All your base belong to us" and "It's a trap!," is a meme which has truly run its course. You may as well throw a "Do Not Want!" in there, for good measure.
Jinto @ Sep 5th 2007 9:41PM
This is a joke right? If this is the best thing M$ can come up with to combat the new iPods then it won't be long till the Zune goes belly up.
Justin Rossetti @ Sep 5th 2007 9:57PM
I think this was a great news release.
MS knows if they push ipods off of engadgets front page they will win.
Sean @ Sep 5th 2007 10:03PM
Hahahahahaha. Apple comes up with a 160GB video iPod and a touchscreen iPod, and Microsoft comes up with a pink Zune.
Zeus the God @ Sep 6th 2007 11:41PM
Haha- do you still have lumps from when your mommy dropped you? This isn't a new Zune- just like the U2 iPods weren't different. Grow up.
dan @ Sep 5th 2007 11:13PM
why does everyone hate the zune? i love mine, its probably the best $200 i spent in the last year (i got it on sale at staples)
i had an ipod, and it was nothing but trouble, it kept crapping out on me and so far my zune has preformed well beyond my expectations
dan @ Sep 5th 2007 11:15PM
oh but i dont see why they're trying to sell a piece of crap like that, it'll only appeal to girls and most girls i know only know how to put music on their ipods, they wouldnt be able to handle a zune
Scott Kampmeyer @ Sep 5th 2007 11:36PM
I thought this was a joke at first...
please Zune, just make like a diseased cat and crawl off into the woods to die.
NooBee @ Sep 5th 2007 11:56PM
Or you could be an Apple iPod and dress it up with one of these:

simon @ Sep 6th 2007 1:10AM
Honestly, i wouldnt be surprised if the Zune was more of a test the waters type deal in the first place, flop or not... A lot of people hate on Microsoft, but theyre by no means idiots...
L. Williams @ Sep 6th 2007 2:14AM
Wow, I wonder when Microsoft will be coming out with a Hello Kitty version of the Zune?
Henri @ Sep 6th 2007 4:19AM
its too early in the morning here for me to be able to tell but do I detect a hint of sarcasm in this article :D of course I do and its not just a hint either,
Charles Ray @ Sep 6th 2007 6:23AM
Does anyone else find this less disappointing than Apple's event? I mean, personally, I wasn't expecting a new Zune theme. It sucks, but it's not as bad as having Steve Jobs shit in my mouth. I've been waiting forever, expecting some sort of sweet large-capacity iPod with a big screen, regardless of it being a touchscreen. "The Beat Goes On" --> "The Consumer Gets Fucked Over."
zune @ Sep 6th 2007 7:43AM
true story:
yesterday, after the Touch came out, I was telling a woman here in my office about it. Mind you, she is hip to new things, and is married to a tech / gadget head. I mentioned that the new Touch has WiFi, but they did it better than what the Zune did. And her honest response was
"The what?"
I explained to her that it was MS's iPod killer, and she still had no idea what I was talking about, never heard of it.
The Zune is dead people. MS dropped the ball by only keeping it in the US all this time - oh, and by putting their name on it. But even if they had sent it overseas, I still don't think it would have saved it.
2008: the year the Zune died.
"the year the what died?"
Zeus the God @ Sep 6th 2007 11:44PM
Jeez, the iFanboys are out in storm today...
Bryan @ Sep 21st 2007 1:26PM
