Does Apple's iPod touch have Bluetooth?
Yeah, you've seen it before, that's the iPod touch. But take a closer look at the upper-right corner of the display. See that little icon? Right, Bluetooth, as in the not announced Bluetooth radio in Apple's new iPod touch. Is this just a snafu from Apple's arts-and-charts team or something more say, AVRCP and stereo A2DP related? At this point, Apple's not saying and we don't know. But you'd better hurry up and click that Read link because that Apple-harvested picture won't be around for much longer.
Update: It's still there, and spreading! Now discovered on Apple's US store and UK site.
Update 2: Ah, sorry to bum y'all out, we just heard that Apple didn't actually include Bluetooth in the touch, meaning the screen shown above isn't entirely accurate. We'll let you know if we hear more.
Update 3: Two more bits: we heard from a pretty decent source that the touch internals are very similar to the iPhone internals, and that there is a Bluetooth chip in there -- it's just not activated. We'll all find out as soon as someone dismantles one of these little buggers, but whether or not that's actually the case, we took a peek at the touch's FCC filing, which went live yesterday. It only contains tests for WiFi, meaning if there IS Bluetooth in there, at very least they're going to have to get it cleared again by the FCC before flipping the switch.

It is on all packaging shots too... anywhere there is a photo of the box, the BT icon is there.
uh.. didn't you guys get to play with one earlier?
Once you go A2DP, you never go back! I have it on my HTC, simply amazing technology!
they had the same pic without the bluetooth symbol in the corner when i clicked the read link. Apple just tell your oh-so-loyal fans the truth, bluetooth or no bluetooth!!
So it's not bluetooth, what is it then? Well, it's easy.. Check out the 'iPod Touch - A Guided Tour' video and skip to 5:29.
The moment when the play button is 'touched' a Play-icon appears on the top right corner (you know, the place where the 'bluetooth-icon' was supposed to be).
Now if you still don't believe me, skip to 6:44. Another song is selected while the other one was still playing. You see the play-icon flashing once.
The final part: Skip to 6:50 and you will see the play-icon dissappear after touching the play-button again (to stop the music that is!!!)
So, did I win anything? ;)
Gn!uz
Wait, the bluetooth icon is still there!
Check out the photo at the lower right corner of the following page:

Bluetooth without A2DP stereo capability is almost useless, so iphone's bluetooth is almost useless.
Hey Stevee next time you release an ipod put the A2DP stereo capability on the bluetooth, otherwise your apple stocks will keep on falling, just like they did yesterday. And please don't fck with us with your little kids 16 Gs storage.
It's not a bluetooth icon, it's supposed to be a play icon. It appears when the play button is pressed. The play icon disappears when the music is stopped. Check the 'iPod Touch a Guided Tour' video and watch that upper-right corner closely.. :)
sorry but if you zoom your webpage 400% is a bluetooth icon not a play icon
Well, the image on the german site has been fixed. No BT icon now...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CwZ8Nc84EfM check this out about the iPhone fucked by iPod Touch
ya
Allowing the iPod touch to tether with a cell phone over BT and use it's internet connection would be a very clever way to get around the exclusivity arrangement with AT&T regarding the iPhone.
Check the FCC docs. Those cannot hide anything.
does anyone already buy it ??????
It's gone now on the Apple Germany photo.
why no email client or other widgets? apple is supposed to be so well designed yet they leave off obvious bits to promote their other markets . a micro sd slot would make the ultimate player but i guess they would not sell you a new one every year if it had that.
would the wifi let me check web mail? not as easy as pop but might do .
I would pick up an ipod touch the day it comes out if it had bluetooth, Wireless headphones are a big deal for me.
There's not bluetooth, they change the photo.
Sounds more like Deadtooth to me.
Am I the only one who doesn't care?
i just looked at the apple pictures, WTF... they took of the logo. apple really should have put a2dp in there.
cool
Engadget- Can you 100% confirm that the iTouch does in face Not have Bluetooth?
Sorry for blog hopping but Gizmodo reports Apple said absolutely no Bluetooth
it looks like theyve just taken the art from the iphone promo images and stuck it on the ipod touch body.
no big deal, just annoyingly confusing.
What I would mosy like to know is whether apple have any plans to implement a remote control facility for playing your (potentially much larger) itunes library on mac/pc - kinda like salling clicker. One of the most useful bits of software I have ever installed - it brought a sony-ericsson P800 back from the dead as well.
This is absolutely vital for these times when you absolutely, positively cannot summon the energy to get off the sofa to change the music.
i'm thinking mabye the piece of clear plastic holding the touch in the pic might be the stand??? hope not was hoping for some sort of dock
well, you can see in this picture of the iphone that the time of day and the play time/remain time are the same as in the above picture...
http://store.apple.com/Catalog/regional/amr/iphone/img/gallery-big-07.jpg
umm its gone on the german site
Yeah, it's definately a stand, it's bundled with the iPod touch, says so on the box contents on Apple's site.
OF COURSE IT HAS BLUETOOTH ITS THE NEW APPLE REMOTE, REMEMBER THE PATENT THEY FILED FOR UNIVERSAL TOUCH SCREEN REMOTE CONTROL.
http://www.engadget.com/2006/10/13/apple-files-another-patent-for-universal-remote/
I don't no get your way of thinking. A Universal remote uses (most of the time) an IR port to send out it's signals. Do you know any aparatus that uses bluetooth to be commanded from a distance of + 3 meters ( 10 feet ) Bluetooth isn't ment to be used in that way. The only thing bluetooth would be handy for is to sync that calendar and contacts but if you have wifi ...
I don't care so much about Bluetooth, how about if the Mail and Map applications work while browsing with WiFi? Think of how great this is for backpackers who usually carry an iPod around with them? Find a WiFi signal and you've got maps and can check you mail and make plans. I can't think of anything more useful than this. Sure these things can be done with Safari, but even better to have dedicated apps for it.
No the Touch does not have BT, in any shape or form. It's not hidden for heaven's sake. Apple will demand you buy a new one. I checked out Apple's site again, saw a small pic that perhaps shows BT but all the big pics do not. And why would any self respecting geek walk around with mental patient white wires sticking out their heads, if BT was there?
All the hype about the Touch is based on a fantasy configuration or at best the next generation of Touch.
This is no PDA. This has not changed the game. Indeed it's a step back that all the little robots will go and buy. Then look stupid as they try not to knock it off the table when the phone rings as the white Earphone cable snaps.
This is bad design. This device needed BT badly for the looks if not all the added features the so called analysts claim it already has.
Stop dreaming guys, this is as good as it get unless Jobs pulls another stunt and goes, "I've been reading Endgadget and decided after all to relent and give you BT and cut the price of all Touch iPods by 50%"
Come on get real.
I think BT was planned, it should have been kept. Jobs was hoping we would not notice and perhaps tens of thousands of sales have been made on the assumption that surely this high tech piece of hardware would have BT rather than BS.
who says that the symbol in the corner of the touch is actually anything to do with bluetooth, if you look on itunes info, the new symbol for the wi-fi store is exactly the same as the "bluetooth" one, so maybe this means that in these pictures it is either connected to the network or even just connected to the store??
i think radio may be hidden in the nano as well
i just bought mine, and there is no radio menu option, but in the menu settings there is a choice to display "radio." I checked it and nothing came up.
sorry to say that i highly doubt it, it is probably just so you can create a shortcut if u have the apple radio remote.
As of now, there is no Blue Tooth, no nothing. And I doubt it was put in and not activated but hey you can always dream.
The reason why I doubt there is BT hardware is that it would not be too hard to hack and activate. Like the way Jobs crippled the DVD-RW option on the Superdrive so he could have something "amazing" to offer in the next revision. I downloaded a hack for my 12 inch and had the feature that was one of the main reasons to buy a new one.
So it might have BT but would he risk the hack or the anger again?
SHAKE AND BAKE !!
Why would they put a bluetooth chip on there and not use it ? There has been an update on the Apple site and it now no longer supports data entry for calendar events. http://www.digmo.co.uk/ipod/ipod-touch-no-calender-entry-confirmed/
All to often does Apple replace screens on their products. It's almost entertaining. I remember watching Jobs sync an iPhone with iTunes. Only it said 80GB of space at the bottom. ;)
Definitely need to find a way to hack BT for DUN. Wi-fi is still not practical in most portable areas. Wi-Max will hopefully take care of that but until then, we need to use our cellphone data plans for DUN on our laptops and other internet-enabled devices.
What would really be smart for AT&T and Apple would be to allow "data only" plans for the iphone so that customers who are not willing to switch full service carrier. This at least gets people's feet in the door for AT&T to try to impress them to get them to fully switch down the line, helps apple sell even more iphones to people who just want great PDA, MP3, Photo, and Movies on the go. And it lets all the would-be iphone havers get the iphone. So it would be win-win-win for everyone. Alas... big business is usually not that smart so a BT DUN connection on the ipod Touch would be a must-have!
All I want to know is: Can I do a Sync via Wi-Fi with my MacBoom Pro/iPod touch?
Both have Wi-Fi right?
Dan
ok so the stand for the ipod touch is kinda stupid in a way. While you may want to use it for music instead of videos or picures, you can't do it. The headphone jack is on the bottom! If yopu want to be a little dangerous though, you can put the ipod touch on the edge of a table and then attach the stand. It works pretty good you just have to make sure it doesn't fall...
