Those still not satisfied by the range of portable
3G routers currently on the market now have another option to consider from CradlePoint, which recently introduced its battery-powered CTR-350 travel router. It'll either connect directly to a cellphone or to a USB modem (or a wired Ethernet connection if one's available), giving you an instant WiFi hotspot compliant with 802.11 b/g standards, along with all the usual security measures you'd expect from a router of any sort. What's more, if you're in a pinch, the router can also be used to charge any cellphone that supports charging via USB, although you'll of course need to find a more conventional way to charge the router itself. If that sounds like the peripheral that you're mobile office has been missing, you can order the router now directly from CradlePoint for $150.

This would be an awesome solution if it would support the BlackBerry as a modem and then I could link my upcoming iPod Touch to it!!

Anyone know of a router that currently supports connecting to ATT phones? It looks like cradlepoint won't get there till later...

FYI: The CTR-350 is _not_ battery powered. There is a gearlog.com article says the 350 is battery powered but it's actually another model that is battery powered. Although it can charge devices over USB. There is some AT&T support at this time, Sprint and Verizon broadband are supported. BlackBerry support is in the works. I know the 8703 models currently work. Good chance other ones will to.
The CTR-350 is very small for WiFi router and you can also use an Ethernet connection for the WAN side, it's not limited to usb.

But much smaller. The CTR-350 is about 2.5"x3". The idea is the same but you don't have to hack a router.

Also, this Router can be used with an ExpressCard. This finally gives Expresscard owners a way to share their connection. You do need a USB adapter to make this happen, but you can find both the Router (just $99 with card purchase) & Adapter here: http://moremobileinternet.com/evdo-mobile-router/cradlepoint
