Elemental Designs' 12-sided subwoofer will implode your universe
Sure, you've got your Super Mario subwoofer, and your grand piano subwoofer, and of course, everyone's got that sixty-inch subwoofer at home these days... but maybe that's not enough. Enter the Elemental Designs eD D1 Dodecasub -- a $2,500, ten-subwoofer-sporting, 12-sided polygon of bass-related pain. In case you're wondering, each subwoofer rocks 600-watts on its own, potentially creating enough bass to rupture not only your bowels, but your sanity as well. Finally, you can hear your Geto Boys album collection the way it was meant to be heard... with too much bass.

I totally want one.
Javi0084 @ Sep 8th 2007 10:36AM
It looks neat but not something I would like to own. Maybe a night club or rapper would want one.

reminds me of this "low cost diy spherical speaker array" http://www.instructables.com/id/E4ZDPUAPFIEXCFGS63/

A twelve sided polygon is called a dodecahedron, in case anyone cared.
sselemit @ Sep 8th 2007 11:19AM
12 sided 3D object, polygon is 2D. If you care :D
Zach @ Sep 8th 2007 11:12AM

Alexander @ Sep 8th 2007 11:19AM
HALO 3 on this would kill
JJ @ Sep 8th 2007 11:56AM
Imagine the response from your neighbors when they hear the bass coming from this subwoofer. I had a friend who, for fun, decided to turn up the bass and speakers to his home entertainment system. Loaded Halo 2 and we played a round. Apparently, their neighbors thought there was a gunfight coming from a house-- John Woo style. XD
Now, think what would happen if my friend had this subwoofer hooked up......
Rob @ Sep 8th 2007 11:33AM
That's a nice looking sub.
I want two of them in my studio.
PotajiTo @ Sep 8th 2007 11:50AM
Don't be fooled, this is not a subwoofer, is an alien space ship!
That's for the dig fans out here :P

Mike Klein @ Sep 8th 2007 1:20PM
A good sub is so critical.....just two killer fronts and a good sub go 90% of the way to getting killer sound from movies or music.
The extra speakers are just frosting...the sub is where it's at!
Ian @ Sep 10th 2007 3:22AM
unless u do away with the other speakers... then all you get is the bass, so no talkies for you :P

The Great Holocron was an ancient, dodecahedron holocron.
Housed in the Jedi Archives on Coruscant, the Great Holocron was the centerpiece of the Jedi Temple's library holdings. It contained vast amounts of information that was accessible to any Force-sensitive being willing to open itself to the holocron, and Jedi trainees were encouraged to explore its contents. Despite its ease of access, consumption of its manifold mysteries was thought to be impossible – even Master Yoda was thought, by Archives Director Jocasta Nu, to still struggle with its depth.
While the Great Holocron was designed to only reveal information that its user was prepared to encounter, inexperienced Padawans accessed the Great Holocron under the watchful eye of the Archives Director who stood ready to step in if the young Jedi was drawn in too far.
Topics included basic and advanced lightsaber construction methods, Galactic Republic history, philosophy, Sith history, lightsaber combat and Jedi techniques. The Great Holocron also included discussions on the dark side of the Force and methods to resist its call.
Following the rise of the Galactic Empire, the Great Holocron was lost, probably captured by the 501st troopers in the assault on the Jedi Temple during Order 66. Its whereabouts afterward are unknown.

If you roll this this thing over, does your Paladin get a 20% increase to his combat heal....?
(sorry, been a looooong time since D&D)

Elemental Design rocks! I was in Car audio for 12 years before I got out, and all their reviews are positive. All the haters really just talka nd have nothing to say about the hardware price/performnce ratio... Haters everywhere...
big mike @ Sep 9th 2007 1:42AM
If you want to see a serious sub, check this out. It's built into the foundation of his house.

lol! i like the : .... With too much bass :)
rcatank @ Sep 9th 2007 5:56AM
I have ONE 12" JLw7 in my car, and anything louder than 30% volume gives me an instant headache. One of these in any car would probably kill you.
GazzyC @ Sep 9th 2007 2:25PM
The question is will it blend and can you play doom on it?
Garrett @ Sep 9th 2007 5:03PM
This thing is not really made for car use. It is mostly a Home theater sub.
Also you can wire it up so that it acts as a directional sub. Only can be heard in the "sweet spot" so you can rock out without disturbing the neighbors.
I want one
Robert @ Sep 9th 2007 7:14PM
What's the deal engadget?
teel @ Sep 10th 2007 2:29AM
Polygon, a 2-dimensional place, is in fact just a one side of a Polyhedron (in this case a dodecahedron), which was probably the word you were looking for.
But either way, I so want one. I bet my neighbours would appreciate too...
Jojer @ Sep 15th 2007 10:25PM
I wonder how this would actually sound. It doesn't seem like it's very high on internal volume. From the [very] little I know about subwoofers, it seems like they need to have some room inside the enclosure in order to produce the best sound. Maybe this thing is packed with acoustic material to make it seem like it has more internal volume? Sound performance: questionable. Design: undoubtedly interesting.
Zach @ Sep 8th 2007 11:56AM
You're absolutely correct. Typically, it's about 1cu ft. per subwoofer, which I'm sure this thing can probably provide. In reality though, this thing along probably will disappoint you. It needs to be enclosed in something else (aka, a trunk).
Not to mention, however, the amps needed to power 12 subs to their capacity @ $600. You better take out a loan for it lol.
BP @ Oct 15th 2007 5:37PM
The size of the cabinet I think is 6+cF. In dipole the low frequency roll off is determined by the cabinet size, not the size of the drivers.
