PSP Slim security trounced by Team M33's custom firmware
Well kids, you won't have to wait too long to be hacking, cracking, phreaking, duping, shooting, dumpster-diving, and generally getting biz-zay with your PSP Slim / Lite, as the outrageous tricksters known as Team M33 have just released their do-it-all custom firmware (version 3.6, for those keeping score at home), thus confirming Pandora's Battery as a "go" (amongst other things) on the new systems. If you understand what we're talking about, you'll be pleased to know that homebrews from the GAME, GAME150 and GAME360 directories load fine, though some homebrews written specifically for the 1.50 kernel won't run properly (due to some hardware and screen problems on the Slim). Ladies and gentlemen, start your engines, don your helmets, and get ready to seriously rumble.

only 5 days...
i bet the people at sony just crapped their pants!
octoberasian @ Sep 10th 2007 10:42PM
I'm just surprised at the speed at how fast they cracked this. Again, copyright protection takes another slap across the face. ^^;
Mr. Power @ Sep 10th 2007 10:10PM
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAA! FIRST POST!
Anyways this is great not only for the homebrew scene but also for sony as many more units will bnbe sold to those of us in the "know". yes you know who we are, we are the banned from sony forum. now they might have ten people that post there. Sony smarten up and get with the scene. Hombrew is DEFINITELY here to stay weither you like it or not. Thanks for banning me from ur gap and underground forums.
Mitch R. @ Sep 10th 2007 10:12PM
Even if you were the first post nobody would care.
Mr. Power @ Sep 11th 2007 1:49PM
well Mitch R, it seems that atleast 100 000 people Do care, show that you have no clue at all. why not take a trip over to pspupdates.qj.net and to maxconsole.net. There you will see that yes indeed people care. You are a moron!
Mr. Power @ Sep 11th 2007 1:55PM
looks like you have no life and spent the better part of the night ranking up ur comment. you are a nobody a fool. You have no clue what you are talking about. Homebrew and exploits sell more psp's than sony alone could have. a little over a month ago there came an exploit for the game lumines, well that game was not selling at all and then when this hit, the game beat even the Wii for top spot at amazon. go get educated dude before you decide to take on someone who is intelligent and knows what he is talking about. sheesh people like you should be banned from ever posting here.
Josh @ Sep 10th 2007 10:11PM
Hey, 5 days is still longer than it took to break some of the movie encryptions. Nice to see people getting together for the common cause of hacking something.
waiownsyou @ Sep 10th 2007 10:15PM
I actually just got the PSP Slim last night and I found it funny how Internet Update said that there was a new version available, and after it downloaded it, it said that the current version (v3.60) was newer than the downloaded one (v3.52).
ANYWAY, does any body know how to install these homebrew thingies? I'm confused... can anyone link me to a homebrew installation wiki or something? Thanks!
Mr. Power @ Sep 11th 2007 1:59PM

Steven M @ Sep 10th 2007 10:19PM
Nice, I sold my modded "fat" psp to my brother in anticipation of a slim with homebrew support, too bad I'm going to need a Pandora's Battery to mod the slim.
Racy @ Sep 10th 2007 10:21PM
now only if they could hack the stupid thumbstick to swap places with the D pad, and I could actually spend longer than 10 minutes playing this thing. seriously someone needs to come up with a DIY guide to swap them.
Logan @ Sep 10th 2007 10:51PM
I love how quickly that happened...however, I've got plenty of M33 goodness on my original PSP, and its alrdy clocked to 333MHz, so no reason to get the Lite
waiownsyou @ Sep 10th 2007 11:57PM
No one really cares that you can't afford another PSP. Stop convincing yourself publicly too.
Nate @ Sep 10th 2007 10:58PM
score for teh haxorz!!!1
Reader @ Sep 10th 2007 11:07PM
Haha. When will they learn to just give up?
frogger @ Sep 11th 2007 8:24AM
i hope never, then the whole scene would just stop, because there would be nothing to crack.
Andrew @ Sep 10th 2007 11:11PM
Wow that was really fast. I congratulate the M33 team for making the PSP slim usable now. Sales should go up now.
Jlivengo @ Sep 10th 2007 11:31PM
Alright, I'm throwing the "What?" card. Does anyone speak english here? What is homebrew, what is pandoras-battery, basically what does this allow you to do?
TrackSol @ Sep 10th 2007 11:40PM
Jlivengo,
This allows PSP slims to run custom made firmware by Team M33. This firmware allows play of backed up PSP games, homebrew and other modifications to the system like new graphics for the operating system (which will come soon). Homebrew:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Homebrew_%28video_games%29
There are many cool homebrew programs, like ports of video game emulators like SNES, NES, GameBoy Advance, Atari, and other non gaming related programs like better internet browsers, streaming wifi radio, streaming video youtube viewer and much more.
RevJonathan @ Sep 10th 2007 11:50PM
And that's my cue to get one!
tiuk @ Sep 10th 2007 11:56PM
Owned.
Luis Martinez @ Sep 11th 2007 12:00AM
The Slim PSP might revive my interest in the console. If it can play SF3 Alpha good then I'm in!
ryan @ Sep 11th 2007 12:01AM
Sometimes Sony makes me wonder whether they even try anymore...
malfstorkle @ Sep 11th 2007 1:26AM
whoot
tomtoromtom @ Sep 11th 2007 3:13AM
However, it's not perfect yet since you still need an old "fat" PSP to flash!
strider_mt2k @ Sep 11th 2007 7:05AM
They are all lining up to have their toys modded by some leetspeaker!
The geek shall inherit the earth.
Lighten up.

Awesome. Now I know that the Crisis Core bundle I ordered won't be just for display only. Time to put my old PSP on eBay. :D
JMacGill @ Sep 11th 2007 4:53PM
You'd think after getting their ass handed to them for the 100th time by the home brew community hackers, Sony would find some way to play nice with hobbyist developers.
Weed-E @ Sep 26th 2007 11:34AM
Umm, Alrighty, I understand what is firmware but I heard of Pandora's Battery or something like that, and I've heared that in order to hack the PSP Slim I have to have a fat one?
Can someone link me to a clear and easy to follow tutorial on how to hack my PSP Slim? (I want to be able to play games and change the graphics [Bascily only the Wallpaper but meh xD])
Thanks for anyone that helps =]

Hi, I bought a PSP slim here in japan and I would like to ask for help please on how to be able to play emulated games in it. I updated the firmware to 3.7 already when I bought it. I am not that skilled and learned when it comes to programming. Please be patient with me. I just learn and follow through forums like these. Thank you and I will look forward for your guidance.
