As much fun as Wii Sports, Wii Play, and all the rest of the PG games on Nintendo's latest console are, we suspect that what gamers have really been waiting for is the ability to shoot all manner of enemy on-screen a la the Duck Hunt days of old, so itchy trigger fingers will be pleased to learn that we've finally been clued into the enabling
Wii Zapper's $20 pricetag and November 19th release date. In announcing this all important info, Nintendo also revealed that the plastic housing for Wiimote and Nunchuk will ship with Link's Crossbow Training, which sounds like an archery sim set in the exciting world of Zelda. Other games that will support the Zapper include Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles, Medal of Honor: Heroes 2, Sega's Ghost Squad, and various other titles that will surely push Wii Chess even lower down your stack of games.

looks super cool
Silver R. Wolfe @ Sep 10th 2007 5:40PM
No thanks, a tech demo and a piece of cheap plastic aren't worth my Jackson.
newgalactic @ Sep 10th 2007 5:44PM
Ok Silver, I'll buy that. What you spend your money on is your business. But I want you to remember this comment the next time you spend $20. I guarantee that it'll be something equally useless.

lightgun or lapdance...
lightgun or lapdance...
tough decision.
Wesburl @ Sep 10th 2007 6:47PM
If Duck Hunt is included I am totally in!!!
The objective is to kill the dog that keeps laughing at you. By the power of Winchester I will get that dog...
ArtC @ Sep 10th 2007 5:52PM
(Is it me, or do some of the other third market guns look better(http://www.goldenshop.com.hk/AI-trad/wii/hard/lightgun.jpg and http://hackawii.com/images/_wii-gun-mod.jpg)? What happened to the original design (http://image.com.com/gamespot/images/2006/news/05/10/wii_gun_screen001.jpg)?? I was hoping to get that magnum-in-hand feel for the upcoming Drive By:Wii Edition.
Count me out. I'm gonna mod my own out of some pvc, monkey hair, and aluminum. It'll rest right next to my Wii-mote-morning-star mod.
Kozzi @ Sep 10th 2007 7:20PM

anything Zelda is sweet. :)
geezer @ Sep 10th 2007 6:12PM
if it would come bundled (as will be the steering wheel for Mario Kart)with a game ok, but 20$ for a crappy piece of plastic? hell no!
jimmyfinch @ Sep 10th 2007 8:21PM
So....
What is your requirement for a game?
Link's Crossbow dealy sounds like a game to me.
geezer @ Sep 11th 2007 6:53AM
missed that part, my bad.
Nelly @ Sep 10th 2007 6:18PM
This is great! Wii got so many add on for it that it'll be hard to remember what to use anymore for a game.
Kait @ Sep 10th 2007 6:19PM
I'll buy it.. what's $20?
SimbaDogg @ Sep 10th 2007 6:30PM
i hate the wii nickel and diming everyone w/ all these add ons and accys that you need to play their games. i mean, even if you play wii by yourself, and never get any 2 party/mario party action going...you could easily spend close to 100 bucks just on controllers.
Macinjosh @ Sep 10th 2007 6:48PM
For your info, NONE of these accessories are REQUIRED to play any of the games they go along with. They are just enhancements.
MrWhite @ Sep 10th 2007 6:41PM

Kind of like how the 360 makes you buy an additional adapter for Wifi, hardrive, cooling system? Although WiFi is built into the Wii. Unlike the WiFi this game controller is entirely optional and only $20 at that. Whereas the WiFi adapter for the 360 is $100 and doesn't work most of the time. :| But it's a 360 and only serious gamers use a 360 so it's justified. Again :|
joe @ Sep 10th 2007 6:58PM
My 360 Wifi adapter works all of the time. And you don't have to buy the cooling system, it is really more of a 3rd party gimmick.

The main focal problem with the 360 is the failure they call their backwards compatibility with xbox games, not the price of the accessories. Besides, most people playing the xbox 360 can go out and buy a 30 dollar 100ft (or less if needs be) network cable and just run it wherever they need to. If you need help laying a cable so it is hidden and you never even notice it, call me up! That's 1-800-U-R-IGN(ora)NT. Just because you have the capabilities of wifi doesn't mean you need to use it. For 100 bucks screw it and go wired. Unless you bought the special bundle when it came out that included it. Just deal with it!!! :)
Wesburl @ Sep 10th 2007 6:50PM
Well the 360 is Serious Business... DUCK HUNT!
sha_bam @ Sep 10th 2007 6:56PM
i swear i saw the zapper at my local EB games in late august
Rytard @ Sep 10th 2007 7:03PM
Is it just me, or am I sensing some anti-nintendo sentiment coming from engadget? "As much fun as Wii Sports, Wii Play, and all the rest of the PG games on Nintendo's latest console are", "set in the exciting world of Zelda" (sarcasm)...oh well, I'll be having too much fun playing Metroid to let it bother.
topspinserve @ Sep 10th 2007 7:37PM
I'm sure that was a third-party one. There are tons of them on the market already.
micx @ Sep 10th 2007 7:11PM
Can't wait to get my hands on one of these!
humpty @ Sep 10th 2007 7:23PM
Looks awkward.

meist3r @ Sep 10th 2007 8:24PM
Why ain't my comments here?
JeffDM @ Sep 10th 2007 8:27PM
So it's just a piece of plastic that you snap your controllers to? It's kind of a WiiTrek phaser rifle.
Pat @ Sep 10th 2007 8:35PM
This is the best thing they could come up with for the one year anniversary?
Elbow Tom @ Sep 10th 2007 11:44PM
Hold the presses! Wii Chess? How come I wasn't notified about this? Where can I get it?
Matt @ Sep 11th 2007 12:31AM
I like how it's worthless for playing Metroid... unless, of course, you want to try getting theough the game without using the Grapple Beam.
For those who don't have the game, to use the Grapple Beam for pulling on an object, you target the object, and throw the nunchuku forward. Then yank it back towards you over your shoulder.
It's a wonderful interaction with the game and works really well, but if the wiimote and nunchuku were firmly fixed in the Zapper, you couldn't do it.

I can't figure out how one could hold that comfortably? I'm guessing they pushed the Wiimote forward so you could hit the nunchuck triggers but this looks like left handed trigger action. Nothing against lefties, but that means slower reaction times for me.
Skandall @ Sep 11th 2007 4:25AM
Wait for it...
Wiidiculous! My god, you Wii owners will buy anything. Still, I guess they have to keep things like this coming before everyone realizes what a lame gimmick the console is based around. Yawn. Sad, so sad. You're really excited by an overpriced piece of plastic (which you could likely create for yourself with some duct tape and paper towel tubes) and a game like Duck Hunt. Seriously, talk about repetitive game play and forget about innovation.
At Nintendo, everything old is new again, but more expensive! Why, because Nintendo fans will by anything with our name on it. Next month they'll ship Donkey Kong's Fecal Fling Mania complete with plastic imitation monkey poop that you can stick your wiimote into. Brilliant!
Prints money indeed it does because as we all know, there's a sucker born every minute. Have fun suckers.
qwertyblue @ Sep 11th 2007 8:50AM
I hope you feel better now, I am going to sob into my pillow....
Dauthia @ Sep 11th 2007 10:35AM
But... do all the adapters and the console add up to how much the PS3 or XBox 360 console alone costs? Hmm. Pretty sure not.
Fozzie @ Sep 11th 2007 1:24PM
man, if only you knew ANYTHING about nintendo, we might believe your little PS3-60 fan-boy rant. if you ask me, any table-top console with a price tag under $300 is a deal. as long as it serves the purpose of providing game play. and overpriced? you are probably one of those cement heads who paid $700 for a PS3 on ebay or something UBER GHEYYYY like that. as for the old being new and being more expensive; i dunno man... you strike out again. comparatively, the Wii is cheaper than the original Nintendo Entertainment System (Deluxe Edition) was when it was released in 1985, which retailed for $249.99 then... which means about $470 and some change in 2007, according to the Consumer Price Index and inflation. So what did you want to say again? Nothing important? Gotcha. (We can smell a pissy "i wish i had a wii" fanboy anywhere... Good luck finding one.)
jbodar @ Sep 14th 2007 9:39PM
I don't know, I kinda dig the close-quarters, SMG-style going on there, though the shotgun-style one looks bad-ass as well. Now if only they'd make a new Silent Scope with a scope-screen attachment. *drool* Man, I want a Wii.
