Man, that was quick. Just two days after
reports hit the net about
RFID implants being linked to cancer, VeriChip is lunging out to vehemently defend its own implantable microchip. Interestingly enough, the firm cites phrases from a number of studies to suggest that all is well and we've nothing to fear by getting one of these bad boys inserted into us, and it also makes darn sure we know the thing has been "
cleared by the FDA as a Class II Medical Device." Lastly, the company has promised to continue looking at the "veracity and credibility of the studies," and noted that it would "take the necessary steps to ensure that our products remain safe to the end user." Phew, good thing, eh?

thats awesome. now you can get one, and eventually trade a tumor for a big fat settlement.

I don't care what anyone says, I'm never getting one. Ever. If the government one day requires it, guess I'll just rot in jail.

I think something similar is being implemented in China soon-ish. Not RFID-wise, but the government is requiring or will soon start to require ALL citizens to have a national ID card. Without it you will not be entitled to benefits or other items or services provided for the government. It was mentioned I believe in MSNBC.com article a month ago. Their intention also is to keep track of their citizens' health, personal information, etc. to keep in one collective database/resource or something. I am unsure if the Chinese government will make it illegal or fine those that dodge or avoid applying for the national ID card.
Now, imagine combining that with RFID tags and what kind of future we are probably headed to.
I get eerie chills just thinking about it, especially flashbacks to films like Minority Report and Gattacca.

@octoberasian
Don't all countries in the western world have databases of their population?
How could they send out info about elections and whatnot? How could they prevent fake IDs if they couldn't check them up?
octoberasian @ Sep 11th 2007 5:11PM
... should be *"provided by the government"
dj-kenpo @ Sep 11th 2007 6:22PM
boy I'm convinced!
here I was thinking they were simply going to agree, 'oh ya, they are dangerous, don't give us any more money, and while you're at it, now that we admitted they're unsafe, sue us, ... lots".
ya right.
remember kiddies, smokings safe too!

Man, that sounds like a cigarette company's argument...

lol but now nobody wants it because it causes radiation, so they're all gonna get shot
jimmyfinch @ Sep 11th 2007 8:32PM
Do you think that your cell phone is emitting cancer causing waves into your ear hole and making tumors?
What about your Microwave?
Ionizing Radiation Vs. Non-ionizing radiation
These basic principles are not new.
I wish people would stop using scare tactics to bully people onto their side of the fence.
However, I would like to see every body chant...
R-F-I-D, THAT SH!TS NOT FOR ME!
R. C. @ Sep 11th 2007 11:53PM
It's not the waves,it's the implant. The thing could be broken and still be dangerous.
tekdroid @ Sep 11th 2007 9:00PM
everyone knows the FDA and FDA equivalents in other countries care deeply about their citizens and are beyond corporate sweeteners.

once radio waves penetrate your skin, which is a great defense against today's world of wireless radiation, the only thing left is muscle and tissue, etc.
I don't care what studies have been done, but this will increase exposure to radioactive materials.............

YOU ARE AN IDIOT. RADIO WAVES AND RADIOACTIVE MATERIAL ARE 2 COMPLETELY DIFFERENT THINGS
AND HAVING RD CHIP INSIDE WILL NOT INCREASE ANY EXPOSURE TO RADIOACTIVE MATERIAL.

k2k before calling someone stupid, look in the mirror!!
Radio waves are a type of radiation. Everything in the spectrum is radiation, unless you think radio waves are above the laws of physics!

Uhm... See the logo? It's an eye. All logos with eyes or pyramids = The Illuminati, which = THE TOTAL OPPOSITE OF SAFE.
They will probably say these will cure cancer and/or aids later on (and they might too, if those two diseases were designed and created by humans that is) so a lot of people must have them. Ex. CIA people are also saying these and other chips can control your mind and do other scary shit. Don't ever get one.
thevicmayster @ Sep 13th 2007 10:05PM
These chip implants are a violation of one’s privacy and identity.
What is that Borg saying? Ah yes - “You will be assimilated resistance is futile.”
