Acer intros new P Series widescreen LCDs

While you can be forgiven for mistaking it for another company's monitor line, that image above is in fact one of Acer's new P Series displays, which come in 19, 20, 22, and 24-inch varieties. From the looks of it, there's nothing too remarkable here, with the 19-inch P191Wd boasting a 1440 x 900 resolution and 2,000:1 contrast ratio, and the 20-inch P201Wd and 22-inch P221Wd upping things to the standard 1680 x 1050 resolution and a slightly better 2,500:1 contrast ratio. On the top of the heap, the 24-inch P241Wd monitor packs a 1920 x 1200 resolution, a 3,000:1 contrast ratio, a 2 ms response time, and a 400 cd/m2 brightness rating (compared to 300 cd/m2 for the three other models). From the sound of it, all four should be making their way to retailers now (if they aren't there already), with prices ranging from $230 to $500.

Whats the point of having such large screens when the resolution is piss poor.
Dave @ Sep 12th 2007 1:50PM
1920x1200 is "piss-poor"?
DJBro @ Sep 12th 2007 1:51PM
what are you talking about, those are the standard resolutions for those size screens
Joe_Templeman @ Sep 12th 2007 4:38PM
How is the resolution piss poor? 1920*1200 is absolutly plenty! Any smaller and you wouldnt be able to read it!!
As for the monitors, wake me up when Acer release some decent S-IPS or S-PVA panel using monitors!

I have an Acer monitor at work, and I would be remiss if I did not warn you all that it sucks. The image looks like crap, and it's set to the correct resolution. I will never buy an Acer monitor, and I'm glad I didn't pay for this one.
Just sayin'

My 24" Acer looks great. I think a lot of it comes down to correctly calibrating the screen, because out of the box there are a lot of screens that suck.

Acer's new P Series... the "P" stands for Pretty!

Whats the general feeling around here regarding Acer vs. NEC? Similar NEC monitors were announced yesterday, which brand would you guys choose if you wanted a 24"?
Blackster @ Sep 12th 2007 2:22PM
NEC all the way. I currently own a 22' acer and it sucks!
MRCUR @ Sep 12th 2007 4:25PM
I would go with Acer. I had an HP 19" widescreen and it was horrible. The Acer one that I have now (AL1917W) is awesome. I also have an AL2216W that I use with my 360 and PS3, and it looks great at 720p.

I have an Acer 24" budget monitor ($430 from NewEgg) and it looks fine. I wouldn't use it for low tolerance missile component design, but for editing photos and stuff it is great.
David @ Sep 12th 2007 2:59PM
my friend has a 24" acer, he has no complaints, but i personally like my 24" HP way more... the monitor is amazing, and bright enough that if i wanted, i could easily light my entire room with it...
Spyvie @ Sep 12th 2007 5:12PM
That's what I'm saying... I have a 19" Acer widescreen, $179 from Newegg and it works great on mom's PC. Not as nice as my 22" Samsung but for the money you can't go wrong.
blade417 @ Sep 12th 2007 3:11PM
I came to this post to say that i'd buy it, but all of your comments made me change my mind. Thanks for saving me 500 dollars!!
Oriole @ Sep 13th 2007 2:28PM
You'll spend your $500 in another monitor, maybe one that's worse than this. You won't find one that gets unanimous praise
BassTek @ Sep 12th 2007 4:14PM
2 ms response time on the 24", does that make it a TN panel?
E71 @ Sep 12th 2007 8:52PM
Kinda weird though huh, since the smaller ones have a 5ms response and the larger one has 2ms. In fact, there seems to be some confusion over that 2ms response time, after googling around, most pages state 5ms for the 24 incher.

Anyone know what is a good lcd monitor for great graphic outputs? Also (if there is a difference) a good lcd monitor for gaming?
U.S. Standardized. E-71, Class A. @ Sep 12th 2007 5:37PM
2MS! OH, IT'S ON!
Diego72 @ Sep 15th 2007 5:13AM
that's a pity that there isn't led backlight
