Hacha's PA20 and PC20 PMPs get release date, pre-order
Hacha, makers of the familiar looking PA20 and PC20, is apparently planning to unleash the players on the world in the very near future. According to reports, the two PMPs will be hitting shelves sometime around September 22nd (or earlier), though right now we've only got those words to hang on. If you'll recall, the $175 PA20 (pictured) is a 3.2-inch, touchscreen media player, with 4GB of memory, the ability to play tons of media formats (MP3, AVI, XviD, WMA, WAV, APE, FLAC), and a microSD expansion slot for an additional 4GB of storage. The $170 PC20 has all the same features, though its 3-inch screen isn't touch-sensitive, and it totally rips off the iPhone's design. Go figure. Both are available for pre-order right now from the Hacha "fan" website.

So every fullscreen device is an iPhone ripoff? Is this a joke? And how about Prada?
Ant @ Sep 12th 2007 12:30PM
I agree, full screen is just a natural technological interface progression. It’s what’s behind the hood that counts and not just the software. They all need to sort out the solid memory capacity before they starting bigging up media players with no room for all your media.
Brad @ Sep 12th 2007 12:45PM
What about how the iPhone is just a ripoff of the HTC Touch, or iPaq, or any of the other numerous touchscreen devices. Ooh, it's got big icons on the home page! Wow!
Generic @ Sep 12th 2007 3:34PM
or everything is a ripoff of the Palm Pilot (oh memories) that was slapped on a DMP
Neeko @ Sep 12th 2007 10:38AM
Hmm this or a itouch. what to do? I love competitive products. now lets see 1million apple fanboys rip this product apart even tho it hasnt even been released yet.
FrankTheCrank @ Sep 12th 2007 10:42AM
I'm digging that XVID support...
But who the hell is HACHA??? WTF?
HA CHA CHA CHA CHA.....
Pirateinmymind @ Sep 12th 2007 10:44AM
So for a measly $5 extra you get .2 inches of screen that you can touch. Call me crazy but i think i might be willing to splurge a little
Hacha Online @ Sep 12th 2007 11:11AM
The PC20 has its points too. It is ultra-thin and has a glassy metallic feel to it.
kingofwale @ Sep 12th 2007 10:45AM
>though its 3-inch screen isn't touch-sensitive, and it totally rips off the iPhone's design.
Joshua.
first of all, this isn't a PHONE
Second of all, it looks NOTHING like an IPHONE.
Third of all, it doesn't even have a touch-sensitive feature.
and mostly, Iphone is the first touch sensitive display device? Since WHEN?
Seriously, I'm trying to defend engadget when other people calls this an Apple fanboy site, but this is getting ridiculous. It wouldn't surprise me if you guys started calling Slingbox a rip-off of Apple TV.
Alan Partridge @ Sep 12th 2007 11:07AM
Click the read link and check the PC20, its very iPhoney
Sledge Hammer @ Sep 12th 2007 10:47AM
Wow, the PC20 is a blatant rip of the iphone, don't these companies have any shame?!
But, it really is thin, credit card size thin:

Trust me, I know what I'm doing.

"Wow, the PC20 is a blatant rip of the iphone, don't these companies have any shame?!"
Dude, WHAT THE F*CK?????
Are you and that Joshua Topolsky idiot like the wonder twins of ass stupidity?
Ryan, do you not have some editorial power over stupid write-ups like this? I cant believe that you actually would agree with this idiotic line being used by the writers on this site.
Bart Lee @ Sep 12th 2007 10:49AM
Oh man they missed the boat by not naming one model the Hacha Cha-Cha.
Hacha Online @ Sep 12th 2007 11:03AM
Just to let you all know, those prices are in AUSTRALIAN DOLLARS.
Convert them to USD: ~USD$141/$146
Simon @ Sep 12th 2007 11:03AM
No DivX? *cries*
Montusama @ Sep 12th 2007 11:22AM
XviD and DivX are related so it doesn't matter
on a personal note XviD owns DivX
Simon @ Sep 12th 2007 11:29AM
Related, but not identical? So i would have to convert all my DivX's to play on this?
leland @ Sep 12th 2007 11:23AM
It costs half as much as an ipod touch and has Xvid support, something Apple will never do. there's no reason you shouldn't be interested.
anonymouspimp @ Sep 12th 2007 12:00PM
Your logic is falling on deaf ears.
John Stracke @ Sep 12th 2007 11:32AM
Interesting: it's got FLAC, but not OGG.
Ant @ Sep 12th 2007 12:24PM
Looks, well, like nothing great. But the expandable SD memory support is where Apple need to be heading. Although this only has 4Gig of storage at least you know that over the following year you can add far greater memory as SD prices come down and memory goes up. Leting buyers have the choice to add memory is good, but this product isn't exactally desirable in the first place.
Tom @ Sep 12th 2007 12:41PM
Price and design are fine but:
microSD (and is that HC?), why not (full size) SD? Why do all the manufacturers go with that silly micro version when the full sized slots would easily fit into this kind of devices and the cards are already avail. in twice the storage sizes?
Also, why does the non-touch version have "dualchip technology (Rockchip 2608A+) which is needed for the games" (see http://hachaonline.com/forum/showthread.php?tid=19&page=3) when it offers close to no useful input method (inline buttons on the top ... let's see one play serious games with that)?
Seriously, what's so hard about making this kind of devices right instead of half baked?
Bogdan @ Sep 12th 2007 12:54PM
iPhone ripoff? Are you guys serious? Your Apple obsession is becoming a bit funny.
OK @ Sep 12th 2007 1:42PM
Interesting how all these fanboy writers keep calling gadgets iPhone rip-offs, when the iPhone ripped off Palm OS first.
insertAlias @ Sep 12th 2007 5:20PM
If you actually read the article and look at a pic of the PC20 (the one that's not pictured here but is in the article), the form of it looks almost exactly like an iPhone. It's nothing to do with being a fanboy (iPhone's the only apple product I own or will buy) it's just that they look a lot alike.
Oddjob @ Sep 12th 2007 6:51PM
I like the iTouch, but am hardly an apple fanboi.. I like this due to the expandability via microSD, a feature lacking on both the iPhone and the iTouch. Also, despite being an apple fan, I fail to see how it's an iPhone/iTouch ripoff, other than the fact that it's a big touchscreen. None of the same design cues are there, the proportions are different, the color scheme is different, even the hard button layout (or lack thereof) is different. Of course, this is all based off of the 2 pictures provided, since I'm at work and can't see the other website.
AnimeNinja @ Sep 12th 2007 11:10PM
Did HachaOnline pay Engadget for this advertisement?
The PC20 has been out in China for a while. You are announcing when an online store will release a certain product?! Why does the store HachaOnline get this kind of special treatment? There are tons selling China PMPs.
Engadget! You are my favorite site, but I am disappointed.
BattleTank @ Sep 13th 2007 5:37AM
If it plays Xvid, it'll play DivX (except those new 6.0 ones with menus, I guess), they just haven't paid a licence to DivX, nor should they given the history.
