While
whispers and supposed
shots of Motorola's ROKR U9 have been around for a tick, the PEBL-icious handset -- along with the similarly styled U9 and the W5 clamshell -- are finally getting detailed. Reportedly, the U9 will tout a 1.4-inch 160 x 128 resolution OLED (externally), two-megapixel camera, GSM / GPRS / EDGE connectivity, a 1.8-inch QVGA screen (internal), microSD expansion slot, USB,
Bluetooth, and "touch sensitive keys." The U3 looks to be an entry-level sibling with a less attractive external display and a VGA camera, while the ROKR W5 will purportedly include a 1.3-megapixel camera, a 1.9-inch 220 x 176 resolution display, 20MB of internal storage, a microSD slot, 96 x 85 pixel external screen, miniUSB, Bluetooth, A2DP support, and quad-band GSM connectivity. No word on pricing or release dates just yet, but do click on for a few more pictures.

BAH!The same ugly-ass bulging bottom that I don't like.GET RID OF IT MOTOROLA!!!!
Sean Creasy @ Sep 12th 2007 10:58AM
moto, get your act together... your phones are cheap and crappy, i'd rather have one of your old analog flip phones (startac or something?) than these new pieces of crap... start building better quality instead of "fashionable"
Dax @ Sep 12th 2007 11:02AM
Wow, MOTO is really stuck in a rut with the RAZR design. That keypad looks so dated now.
Alan Partridge @ Sep 12th 2007 11:02AM
I loved the design and opening mechanism of the original PEBL (obviously it was a terrible phone but what do you expect from Motorola?) But this just looks a mess. The matte black smooth paint used on the PEBL was fantastic and they've replaced it with...this. A real step backwards
Bambino @ Sep 12th 2007 11:43AM
See... this is what happens when you have one of the top three companies in cell phones [or just about any technology] and let yourself fall behind in quality and style. Motorola had been one of the best until Nokia came around and still then they fought it out. But now...
igotissues31 @ Sep 12th 2007 11:10AM
just make a Nerf style phone so I can throw it without it breaking.

I hate the razr keypad.....the two middle circles (the one to select and the one to move left right up and down) are crappy glued on and come off after some use. Im sorry but a keypad should never be held together by glue...I think thats the main thing I hated about my V3c
PG @ Sep 12th 2007 11:32AM
So they made some minor updates to PEBL and KRZR. Is this the best Moto can do?
Sunjay @ Sep 12th 2007 11:32AM
It looks like Moto has completely given up on any sort of innovation or effort at creating new phones and is just adding new colors to the casings of 5 year old phones...
allaina @ Sep 12th 2007 11:46AM
woo, i can buy my current crappy phone, in new colours with no further innovation!!
i think motorola deserves a high five for this one. to the face.
kirk @ Sep 12th 2007 12:08PM
why do they even bother?
Stella Roy @ Sep 12th 2007 12:22PM
After reading and looking at the pictures I feel tempted to change my Nokia N80 phone with this one.

is this the way moto want's to fought back i think they living the past.. +++ full of crap they come out get real MOT..
paul @ Sep 12th 2007 12:30PM
Ya know, I do not like moto anymore.... the most recent phone they have released that wasnt fugly and had that "I'm trying too hard" look was the v195... it was simple, had b/t, and worked.... i can see those days are gone...
too bad
bcamp92979 @ Sep 12th 2007 12:39PM
OK, so...
Remember when Engadget wrote a letter to Palm suggesting what they can do to pull out of a hole and present better products to the public? I think this needs to happen with Motorola.
I loved my Razr, until it got sunk in water... But fact is, the RAZR IS dead... Get over it Motorola. Move on.
Come on Engadget... Write em!!!
bcamp92979 @ Sep 13th 2007 1:51PM
The razr had everything you needed. No extra bull crap that you will never use except for the first week to show off to your friends. Yeah, there is almost always a better phone out there, but functionilty was perfect on that phone. Especially after an Alltel flash. But regardless, motorola is falling behind...
Ted @ Sep 12th 2007 1:50PM
Motorola is done. These phones suck.
Josh Havener @ Sep 12th 2007 3:23PM
Not bad!
Way to be the first to post this (well first that I've seen!)
Philometalist @ Sep 12th 2007 9:51PM
RAZR all over again..
lightswitchsam @ Sep 13th 2007 6:29AM
the RIZR Z8 is awesome though, best phone i've ever had. i get that motorola does a lot of uninspired designs, but i wouldn't write them off yet. stuff like the Z8 shows a lot of cool innovation - kindof pointless innovation sometimes, but cool nonetheless.
