iTunes Store having issues?
Apple might have pleasantly surprised a few people today by shipping out the iPod touch earlier than expected, but that's being a bit overshadowed by issues plaguing the iTunes Store: users are reporting that purchased content isn't downloading, and that iTunes is popping up error messages saying that it's "unable to check for purchases." No word on what's causing the problems -- we're betting it has something to do with the launch of the iTunes WiFi Music Store, which hasn't gone live on the iPod touch or shown up on the iPhone yet -- but that doesn't make it any less annoying.

Adam @ Sep 13th 2007 8:08PM
This has been going on for the past couple of days. Eventually I'll be able to download that new Britney song "Gimme gimme gimme"
Curtis @ Sep 13th 2007 8:09PM
Well... I had issues last year and a couple of months ago (caused by my home network setup and router firewall respectively). Then right after the iTunes Plus rollout. I guess that was too many people upgradiing the collections at the same time.
But it has been smooth sailing since. Of course, I have only purchased songs, music videos, and downloaded podcasts lately. No movies or TV shows.
I have found Apple's customer service too be really good or lackluster for each of th incidents I reported.

What?
Rob Vardell @ Sep 13th 2007 8:21PM
It is odd that I have 6 items that have not downloaded since yesterday with the errors as reported. Today I purchased a single and it downloaded perfectly the first time! The items from yesterday are "stuck" in limbo I guess.
Chris @ Sep 13th 2007 8:25PM
hasnt it always had issues? :]
Kevin @ Sep 13th 2007 8:26PM
people pay for music?
Jose @ Sep 13th 2007 8:35PM
I just (now) clicked on "Check for Purchases" and it worked, all my songs I bought are now downloading ! (I also had this issue)
Rob Vardell @ Sep 13th 2007 8:39PM
It is working now! Awesome!

The current release kept on freezing up my PowerBook G4 and renamed the majority of my library folder to "Damaged" and was only showing a few hundred MB of music while I had over 11GB... so I had to go back to my most recent backup and use 7.2 (34), lost a few albums in the process...
jezza @ Sep 13th 2007 8:40PM
as of 5:39pm, it's working again.
i thought i was the only one having this problem. thank god it's fixed.
Curtis @ Sep 13th 2007 8:44PM
Ellanith or something like that...
I was only trying to state that I had issues in the past. Some caused by my home network setup or equipement. Other's caused by the iTunes store. And that some Apple customer reps are better than others.
I suspect that iTune store will have issues in the future in they rollout new features.
LordFarkward @ Sep 14th 2007 3:33AM
Huh?
Rob Vardell @ Sep 13th 2007 8:45PM
BTY....I was on the phone with Apple for an hour today and they finally were convinced that it was the store with the issue, but I thought it was only me too. If there are millions of customers, they must have targeted us with this problem!
badtzmaru @ Sep 13th 2007 8:46PM
The WIFI Store IS working on the iPod Touch. I just played with one at the Apple Store in Pentagon City, VA.

I'm glad iLounge got the credit when I sent the story to them early yesterday
Liam @ Sep 13th 2007 8:58PM
I had issues purchasing an album from UK store, first it said my card had expired... it hasn't, and then it kept telling me I couldn't download the album with no explanation why. Tried 30 later seemed to work fine, I assumed it was just me.
Brian Covalt @ Sep 13th 2007 8:59PM
YES! Glad to see Engadget is talking about this. This is happening to me, bought music days ago and still can't download it, but my credit card has been charged, and when I talk to Apple they just give me automated responses. LAME!
Ezequiel Vieto @ Sep 13th 2007 9:07PM
WHAT THE HECK do they mean by
"surprised a few people today by shipping out the iPod touch earlier than expected"

On top of the that the iTunes Movie store keeps crashing my new iMac!!
Everytime I go to the iTunes Movie Store front page and try to scroll down the page it freezes my entire iMac.
It's only in iTunes, only in the Movie Store, and only on the front page while scrolling that it happens.
Seriously what kind of bug causes that??
Darren @ Sep 13th 2007 9:43PM
It's completely, COMPLETELY dead now...
henry p @ Sep 13th 2007 10:16PM

Jeremy K. @ Sep 13th 2007 10:33PM
lolz @ Engadget
You guys were just a tiny bit late.
I've been having this issue since Tuesday.
I just checked to see if it was fixed right now,
and lo and behold, it was!
But thanks for putting it out there for people to hear, anyways.
I love how it took Apple only one night to "fix" the ringtone work-around,
but several days to fix this download issue...
Must have had something to do with the fact that we were still charged for the purchases,
even though they didn't download.

The shipping date of the iPod Touch was listed as "by September 28th". Most people were probably expecting it to be closer to that date, not two weeks earlier.
Does that help?
Alex Goodhart @ Sep 14th 2007 1:15AM
I got this too.. I bought two songs the other day, only one downloaded. "Report a Problem" wasn't working either, so resolving it was a bigger mess than expected!
Timerider @ Sep 14th 2007 11:04AM
Oh, so it's not just us.
The first time my mom tries to buy music online, for my dad's birthday, and it tells us we can't.
jordi @ Sep 14th 2007 12:54PM
