LG intros LX97WH desktop with Blu-ray / HD DVD combo drive
It looks like LG is putting its own Blu-ray / HD DVD combo drives to good use, with one finding its way into the company's new LX97WH desktop recently unveiled in Korea. While other specs unfortunately seem to be a bit hard to come by, the system will apparently boast a Core 2 Duo processor of some sort, along with an NVIDIA GeForce 8-Series graphics card and, as you can see, a fairly eye-catching paint job. No word on pricing just yet either, although you can probably guess where you'll have to go if you want to get one.

Which one?

It kind of looks like two players taped together.

. . . well it was only a matter of time. Now the format war is well on it's way to being moot. It's only a matter of time before making a choice between Blu-Ray and HD-DVD is no longer a choice for home theater and computer applications. Hooray, late adopters!

Not necessarily. How long did Beta-Max stick it out with VHS? And this may not even be picked up outside data or professional uses (like Super VHS). Of course I'm a late adopter so who am I to say...
ryantrevisol @ Sep 23rd 2007 4:43PM
Well actually what I meant was not that one format was clearly winning out over the other, but rather, that both formats can coexist in one drive, meaning for consumers, you can
Imagine a VCR introduced in, oh I don't know, 1985 that played VHS and Beta, and was relatively inexpensive. That's what we're looking at here. When drives and players like this proliferate, John Q. Consumer won't have to care if his favorite movies come out on HD-DVD or Blu-Ray, because either works for him.
I forsee the difference between blu-ray and hd-dvd becoming little more than the difference between DVD+R and DVD-R.

What's with the green fingernails? Yuk...
ryantrevisol @ Sep 18th 2007 2:55PM
Nail fungus. A little-known side-effect of multi-formatting. Not as bad as the CD+/-R gangrene of the late 90's, though.

Smeagol wants to marry it my precious!

That is one totally stoned and happy Korean.

So even when Blu-ray and HD DVD are crammed together, Blu-ray still wins with its 50GB burning ability! The HD DVD side is just a ROM only, like all HD DVD drives... boring!
ryantrevisol @ Sep 18th 2007 6:00PM
Yes but at least you don't suffer because of the infighting, childish studios. That way, YOU win.

Korean technology: on the cutting edge for blu-ray/HD-DVD combos and for double eyelid cosmetic surgery. Bravo!

i'd say this is a piece of garbage if it wasn't for her cute little pinky sticking up.

Sorry, it wasn't the paint job that catched my eye.
