It's been a tick since we've heard any peeps from
Slacker, but today it announced that it not only inked a deal with a few "top indie labels," but it managed to sign up the likes of EMI, Universal Music Group, and Warner Music Group, too. Additionally, "as part of the agreement, Slacker listeners can transfer their personalized stations to
Slacker Portable Players with a single click and automatically refresh them via WiFi or USB." On the independent front, IODA, The Orchard, Beggars Group and Matador Records, IRIS, Ubiquity Records and Sanctuary Group PLC are all signed on, further broadening the amount of content available to, well, Slackers. So if your ears are in need of some variety, head on over to the firm's website to try out the (freshly expanded) Slacker Personal Radio beta.

Yes, it is. Just click on "Alternative" and then "Indie".
I see their Number 1 Indie Artist is JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE
...So, what kind of DRM does it use?
It works on a Mac in Safari.... only the desktop player is Windows only.
I'm not interested in streaming music over the net. This isn't a true mobile solution. You have to go through a Windows PC.
That's why they have a portable player with WiFi capability. You don't need to stream through a computer. It caches the music in the portable player and provides the same experience as if you were online all the time. IMO, it's the first concept that has disruptive potential since the iPod.
I love Slacker.
I've been using it for a while now.
If they could offer a live service like Sirius I'd drop Sirius.
Ah, this magical Slacker portable player. Announced in March, no updates since then. It's really going to tear sh*t up, no doubt. ROFL.
