Infinity and JBL's PS212W and CSS10W wireless subwoofers
Although the humble subwoofer is probably the least likely to require placement inside a space that's beyond cable reach -- or concealment -- thanks to its non-directional sound frequencies, JBL and Infinity have teamed up to solve the problem anyway. The PS212W is a 12-inch $679 400W sub with an included 2.4GHz wireless transmitter / receiver bundled: yes, that's 2.4GHz, the same frequency nearly all your other wireless kit uses. JBL's Cinema Sound CSS10W also uses this overused frequency for its wireless, but it's only 10-inch and 300W, and will retail at the lower price of $559 when it launches in January next year.

Now you can hear yourself surf the web and hear your stuff cook in the microwave.
Thumpiest hot pockets ever.

I dunno - for around the same amount one can get a very nice Bose speaker SET (not just the woofer). Who cares about one iddybiddy cable?

Bose makes baby Jesus cry.

I think you should check out the outstanding attitude towards Bose equipment on this (and most other sites for that matter) before you post something like that

For that price you can *build* a set of speakers that will sound better than any sub $3000 commercial system. Check out projects here:

I've built over ten projects now, they all sound fantastic.

Perhaps I should add that they are competitively priced in NZ - a land where often prices are many times what you (lucky little bastards) in the US pay.
For example the Weber Baby Q (retails $119USD on Amazon.com) retails for $550NZD here - that's $408USD. Why the difference - importers know we can only get stuff from overseas with great difficulty (e.g. Weber prohibits international sales for retailers), so they rip us off. Hence my favour to the relatively cheap (vs. other options available in NZ) Bose speakers.
Big thanks to max andrews for the links and the idea of building my own - will look into it as a viable alternative.

Wow! No wires! These guys invent speakers that require no power and it's not on the evening news! Are they powered by fusion?
Oh, you mean there's just no speaker wire? Hmmm, well last time I checked the electrical wire counts as a wire. So I guess there not so "wireless" after all, eh?
Wake me when you make something truely remarkable...

I've $10 speakers that don't require a power cable. They're powered by battery. But I think you're right, that's probably not the case for the subwoofer, making the effort totally pointless.

ha i always seem to forget about the power cord when i think of wireless things like speakers.. thanks for reminding me. i hate having to plug things into the wall, id rather have the cord coming from the receiver itself to power the speakers.
