While Apple
chose London to inform the world of the iPhone's international agenda, HTC is reportedly looking to make a few announcements of its own on that side of the pond. According to
TheUnwired, HTC will hold two press events on the first two days in October, the first of which will be in the UK and the second in Germany. Best guesses suggest that we'll be learning a bit more about the firm's forthcoming Windows Mobile-based lineup, and we can only hope that the
Kii,
Omni and / or
Polaris are part of the show -- but considering the location and all, we wouldn't bet the farm on hearing too much about the likely
US-bound Juno. Hold tight kids, the events get going in under a week.
Doh! A week? I can't wait, I need to know if the polaris will have that 640x480 screen...
Polaris isn't VGA, and the Omni isn't coming out.
"the omni is not coming out"
hmm, do you have one whit of evidence to back up this statement? Given that the Omni is the only htc project that bests the iphone in features (processor, resolution, an actual keyboard) it would be a truly odd business decision indeed to keep it on the shelf. iphone love tends to blind some folks I guess.
actually, my htc kaiser already whips the iphone.
While I have nothing against HTC other than the issues I've had with their phones that up till now have been tolerable, I sure someone asks them about the Bluetooth issues they've had in their last few models. The 6600 was bad, the 6700 wasn't bad but it wasn't great but the 6800 is unusable for the sake of my clients - they sound great to me but I sound like $#!+ to them, so I've stopped using BT. http://www.htcwiki.com/page/HTC+Mogul?t=anon
They were saying it was a Sprint issue - but since Alltel and Kasier users are also having BT issues - they are going to have a hard time telling me those are also because of their specific carriers.
Alltel and Kaiser use Sprint's network. I have an HTC device on ATT and a friend has one on T-Mobile and we have no issues with our blue tooth. There may be something to the network excuse.
Kaiser use's Sprint's network - I didn't know Sprint's network was GSM based. I also didn't know Sprint had a alot of towers in Canada.
Htc has the best smart phones, but they really do need to improve the operating system a tiny bit.
After Engadget's coverage of Apple's London event, I can't wait until next week's exciting posts:
"HTC Chief Executive Peter Chou passes into British airspace."
"Peter Chou lands at Heathrow via runway M-82."
"Chou picks up luggage via baggage carousel A-3."
"Chou in Rolls Royce on way to hotel."
Etc., etc., etc.
You can put it in a nice shell.
You can put a nice skin on it.
You can even ship it in a nice box with a cloth to wipe the screens with.
But it is still Windows Mobile.
Wimdows Mobile - YES, but at least its "Works" better than my Dang iPhone!!
@Ross:
Obviously, you know little about WinMo.
WinMo 6 has packed a whole bunch of features than it's predecessor. It's not just a 'new skin'. Like looking better is a crime.
WinMo is popular mainly for the many functions it can do. Unlike other mobile OS's, WinMo can do a whole lot, pretty well. The UI could be better (like a bigger screen, instead of being squashed) but it's not that complicated. Even my grandmother could figure it out.
WinMo Photon is sure to come out with a better UI. As for now, WinMo is a pretty nice mobile OS.
If you mean by its still Windows Mobile that it actually does something useful vs. the iShit that sits there like a airhead bimbo then yes. It IS still Windows Mobile and thank god for that. Shit...Apple put OS X on a mobile device and isn't using even a quarter of its capabilities probably due to the system being taxed to its limit as is.
So yah. Give me WM...as least I can actually use it for something other then web browsing, music, and movies, and e-mail.
I'm really starting to detest the iPhone owners who insist on bagging everything that isn't their jesusphone.
A press conference is good - new product information is a marketable commodity which should be exploited.
They need to have expanded the Touch interface (so you never need to see the horror underneath it), package it all up in a nice box and they'll steal a few sales before Apple gets people locked to a new phone for the next two years.
a vga S60 device!
Hey how can I find out where the UK HTC event will be held & dates?
Is it just for the press or can can anyone attend?
I am an extremely happy user of the Tmob Dash aka HTC Excalibur. It is the perfect phone is freely unlockable by Tmobile after 3months of service has wifi, is highly customizable if you read a few web pages, has great free software available for it, has great 3rd party software available for it, ecet ecet.
HTC and by extension has everything I need or want in a smartphone. Except for one thing and I think it's a semi important thing. Where the Hell is my full featured web browser!!!!!!!!!! WM6 is the third version of a MS smartphone and you can't get every web page working. I am not talking about flash ecet (although rudimentary flash would be nice), I just want it to render a web page correctly.
Don't get me wrong Pocket IE is great if I we were in 2002 but it completely hangs on many pages, renders them incorrectly, bla bla bla. And don't even talk about the paid version of Opera. It is slow and has almost no improvements over Pocket IE6. I know MS says it is physically impossible to get an actual IE6 browsing engine in Windows. Just look at the iPhone it seems the web browser in there is actually magical. And no I don't care that the iPhone has a 600mhz processor and my portable has a 200mhz one. I don't care if it even renders the web page perfectly just make it usable for cristsakes. I am sick and tired of this BS how hard is it to get a compliant browser working on a mobile. Put some actual effort into it MS for the love of.....
WM's built in apps suck ass.

The iphony is like a sniny bauble that doesn`t do much.
I want that JUNO now !
BTW...all Win Mo smartphones let you assign ANY WMA , MP3 , or WAV file as a ringtone.
Apple`s device , after the shiny-ness wears off doesn`t deliver the functionality of a Win Mo device with REAL 3`rd-party apps.
Way mor intersted in this then anything iPhone related because...well because the damn thing will actually be able to DO something. The iPhone is like a blond airhead bimbo: Pretty to look at, impressive interface, totally useless at anything else.
Anything HTC puts out may not be the greatest looker but it went to collage and knows how to work in the real world.

Jackass Iphone users...the two are not for the same user. People who want to use their legal Itunes media, yay for you. I have my business mostly run through my 8525, and after using an 8125 before it, HTC has made a loyal customer out of me.
Doesnt hurt to have TCPMP in them, either: Sorry Mr. Jobs, my loyalty's to Mr. Chou. Can't wait to see if they come out with something awesome!
Is it possible that they are announcing something with Sony Ericsson??? Giddyup!!!
well, where's the info on these events? They'd have supposedly happened by now.
